Up/Down Voting Question
Video
Hi all, Hi Ticoombs,
Firstly, thanks so much for making this great instance. I'm completely new to Lemmy; I really love how open, tolerating, and friendly it feels on this specific instance!
Secondly, only a question: is it correct that some instances have upvoting & downvoting, and this instance only upvoting?
If so, I'm curious about the rationale behind this. I actually don't have an opinion on this. Just curious.
If this question has already been answered, I'm sorry, I couldn't find it.
Thanks!

Unable to post top level comments from reddthat in lemmy.world
The PS5 community recently moved instances and joined lemmy.world, but for some reason I am unable to make any comments from our instance - the loading indicator circle just keeps spinning after I press "Post" and nothing goes through.
They are federated with us and we with them, so it should work, but it doesn't. Tried with different browsers, selecting the language, leaving it undefined - no change. Post went through on first try from my Kbin account though - is it an issue with lemmy.world or with reddthat?
Here's the address of the community: https://reddthat.com/c/ps5@lemmy.world
Is appreciate any help or suggestions (which might also be "deal with it" if it's their issue and not ours;) )
EDIT: seems I can reply to another person's comment just fine, but can't post top-level comment. This is weird and I'm not sure why it would happen...
EDIT 2: Checked it with other communities on lemmy.world and I experience the same problem - cannot post top level comments at all on that instance it seems.

Is there a lemmy equivalent to posting under your own user profile on reddit? (not attached to a specific subreddit or community)
I haven't found this feature anywhere. It's often used on reddit to make sure a post's content doesn't disappear if a subreddit gets removed or is shut down for some reason. (edit: or recently wasn't accessible because a subreddit went private in protest or otherwise. Or, more normally, you want a single content page to share in multiple communities for easier edits to one source, etc.) You just post a link to the original. The only thing I can think of to do it here (or on a different instance) is create a community that only myself can post to as a mod, but unsure if such a thing is frowned upon.

Posts, replies, and edits not posting from firefox (turned out being one of my extensions)
Original Title:
Is there a workaround for federation errors with comment replies?
Here's a screenshot of the problem on dropbox
When I hit "reply" on someone's comment (in this case a post all the way over on lemmy.ca: https://reddthat.com/post/350705) it just grays out, and never posts the reply.
Plus, there are more comments on https://feddit.de/post/1392810 than show up on the reddthat version. I imagine that's probably just something I don't understand about lemmy?
I know switching to my phone and finding the comment on liftoff or wefwef allows me to post, which is why I'm hoping one of you knows an exact workaround, including how to use wefwef or liftoff to easily find the comment I'm trying to respond to.
Update 1:
It works on Google Chrome! Reddthat can post comments on other instances just fine using Google Chrome. It's only Firefox that's having this problem right now. (Meaning it's not actually a federation glitch.)
Update 2:
It was my bionic reader extension on firefox. Sorry Tiff. I did not mean to put you through all that debugging for a problem that wound up being a bad extension on my end.

Kbin.social and Lemmy?
Hi all,
So moving over from the barren wastes we've left behind us, I've grabbed both a Kbin account and Lemmy on a couple of instances.
Are Kbin and Lemmy totally separate things? Given the ReddThat is a Lemmy instance(?) but doesn't contain Lemmy in the title - it's difficult for me to understand at a glance which of these disperate systems on the feddeverse can or can't talk to once another...!
Any attempts at an ELI5 would be tremendously appreciated!

Is the comment exploit still a vulnerability?
Has reddthat.com had any issues with the recent hacks/exploit that some larger instances have dealt with? Were there any precautions that had to be made like rotating the jwt's and hiding the exploit (I don't have a lot of technical knowledge on the subject, so hopefully I'm making sense)? Are we waiting for lemmy devs to make a permanent fix, or is this already happening and I'm just behind on the times? Or does this not affect our instance due to the software version being upgraded? Just curious about if the security breach is something that can be widespread, or if it has already been mitigated around here. Thanks for all that you do for us regardless, I've really enjoyed calling reddthat my new home!

Intermittent bad gateway errors earlier today, and completely unable to connect now.
Did somethig happen to the server? Posting ot from Kbin since reddthat is completely inaccessible to me now.

Missing posts/out of sync with other instance
Hey,
I am new to Lemmy. So I created an account here, started to subscribe to some lemmies, then I ran into an issue it seems.
I wanted to subscribe to: !stargate@lemmy.fmhy.ml
As you can see, reddthat is missing some posts (well, all of them).
Will they appear over time or is this a bug?
Generally, can users expect not to see some posts, sometimes, due to the federated nature?

Federation Lag-o-meter
reddthat.com Federation Lag-o-meter - ReddthatI made this based on the gripe about some of the silent failures with federation. Might help users choose other servers. Might help admins troubleshoot. Open to comments and criticisms!
An interesting link I stumbled upon and thought to share. We are actually also there (pretty hard to see on mobile though), and the concept seems interesting - might even help to diagnose issues in the future? Just an idea from a tech luddite;)

Is there somewhere I can view which instances we are federated with?
There are a couple of communities I've come across on online lists / forums that I'd like to join, but they aren't showing up on a search despite the usual workarounds. I suspect they might just be hosted on instances we aren't currently federated with, but is there a way to check this so I know if this is the case or if it's due to a bug?

what will happen
Hi i am new here and got 2 question the first is I created an account on lemmy. World but I can't log in after that night so I decided to make a account here but I was surprised to see that the username I used in world is also be used in redthat so how lemmy will differenciate the 2 account and the 2nd question is what will happen with my account if redthat will shut down the server

open external links in new tab?
Maybe this is an option I'm missing somewhere? I find that clicking anything in home/all is a guessing game as to whether it'll keep me here or go to a completely different website. Since I have Reddthat in a tab for easy access, this is very slightly frustrating. š
If it's not a feature, might I suggest opening all external links across Reddthat in a new, separate tab?

Lemmy equivalents to subreddits
Hello new friends! Of course I'm a new member having abandoned the shit show that has become reddit and am starting to get the idea of different instances and building a new feed for myself. I saw a post that had some Lemmy equivalents of popular subreddits such as /r/pics and /aww and what not but I've since lost it. I saved the post for later and this morning my saved post was for a comment in an unrelated post. I'll figure out what I did wrong eventually but could anyone help me find this post again? I've been searching all morning and having no luck figuring out where I was when I saw it or how to get back

Syntax Error in JSON
I am getting these messages fairly regularly lately. No idea what causes them, they just appear randomly when I go to a different page on the site.

Having trouble finding communities
Maybe I'm not using it correctly but I'm hiving issues using the search functions to find communities. The community i was trying to find was the Reptiles and amphibians community on mander (https://mander.xyz/c/herpetology). I'm not sure how to sub otherwise. Cheers!
