Reddit API blew up and now I run Linux?
I feel like I've been gaslit into running FOSS but every success only brings me closer to fighting god

FrankTheHealer @lemmy.world Now you just need to remove snaps. And then when Canonical still forces them on you, you move to Linux Mint, but then Linux mint won't be updated as often as you'd like. So then you move to Arch. Then you'll really be one of us

20 0 Replynonfuinoncuro @lemm.ee Isn't that the least updated of the above choices? (if you run stable)
7 0 ReplyBlanK0 @lemmy.ml Debian testing is the way (perhaps haven't tried it but I'm intrigued to know the experience) 🤔
5 0 ReplyDAMunzy @lemmy.dbzer0.com I'm just getting in on the fun.
Everyone should run Kali. 🤪
4 0 ReplyFrankTheHealer @lemmy.world Well don't the testing versions like Debian Sid get updates regularly enough ?

Huschke @lemmy.world Mint to Arch?
That's like saying: "ok now that you have driven your for first car for a few weeks it's time to fly your first plane. Good luck."
8 0 Replymerthyr1831 @lemmy.world Mint to Manjaro so you can still claim you're on arch btw but cling onto your sanity until Manjaro devs inevitability break something
5 0 ReplyFrankTheHealer @lemmy.world That was me as a Linux noob 5 years ago
1 0 Replytheonyltruemupf @feddit.de I'm in the Manjaro phase right now, it's been going well for the past 2 years. Wish me luck!

Tattorack @lemmy.world I've never used snaps and never been forced to use them.
2 0 ReplyKarna @lemmy.ml "been forced" part is definitely true for Firefox and Thunderbird packages. Snap packages takes precedence over deb package, if I remember it correctly.
6 0 Replypsud @lemmy.world It is difficult to switch out the Firefox snap for the deb. If you install anything from the easy-to-use software store it'll be a snap.
I'm glad I know my way around the terminal tools
4 0 ReplyKarna @lemmy.ml Best way is to add Mozilla deb repo,IMO.
3 0 Replypsud @lemmy.world The deb is in the Ubuntu repositories by default.

Tattorack @lemmy.world But I just installed Firefox with apt-get. Fairly certain it doesn't install the snap version that way.
2 0 ReplyKarna @lemmy.ml Can you check if you already have Mozilla deb repo setup on your ubuntu installation?
2 0 ReplyFrankTheHealer @lemmy.world It can. There was a 'feature' in Ubuntu before that made apt actually fetch the Snap version instead. I think this was the case for Chromium and Firefox. I don't know if this is still the case though.

Possibly linux @lemmy.zip Then after a while you get bored so you move to Fedora/Linux mint and are happy.
