federation between instances showing many comments not replicating (2023-06-13 example) · Issue #3101 · LemmyNet/lemmy

Over the past week I've been posting and commenting. Some of these just appear to vanish, others seem to be voted up by the entire federated community.

I also see mismatched vote and comment counts across posts authored by me and others.

Is this an instance issue here, a wider lemmy issue, or a PEBCAK (Problem Exists Between Chair And Keyboard) issue?

  • @w0odl@lemmy.radio, I know you’ve got your hands full, but it seems like there are some additional issues as of the last instance update; my posts and comments are getting no engagement and I’m curious if something has happened to federation somehow.

  • Since I started running this instance, I feel like this has always been an issue. I can see federation happening in the logs, and I've only "banned" a few servers. We are still a small version behind, so maybe that is the issue? But I don't believe it is. There was another surge lately in lemmy users and posts, and in the past, that always seemed to kick off issues like this. Lemmy is also still very beta-ish.

I'll keep watching the logs and hopefully this week, I'll get us on the newest version. The last few have been very time consuming to update.

    • In the bug reports I've trolled there was one comment about the version of the database engine, but having written software for nearly 40 years, I'm not sure of the provenance of such a report, unless the database engine is really old, or the developers are using bleeding edge database features in a production environment.

      I suppose that's possible..
