Im glad this climate sub is friendly to climate change commentary that isn't undeserved doe eyed sunshine and lollipop naivety.
Id obviously prefer my species stop, but most of us know at some level that our insatiable greed disease and individualistic, short term selfishness won't allow that until the hostile hellscape we've reverse terraformed this world into makes our sustained attacks on it impossible for the survivors to maintain at scale.
I take solace in knowing our world will heal from us, and a couple million years after it has dealt with the ingrate surface nuisance that was homo-sapien, the paradise we tried to kill will return for new species to inherit, and maybe they'll even respect and care for their mother instead of seeing it as their private property to burn, rape, and exploit without any consideration whatsoever.
“The planet will be here for a long, long, LONG time after we’re gone, and it will heal itself, it will cleanse itself, ’cause that’s what it does. It’s a self-correcting system. The air and the water will recover, the earth will be renewed. And if it’s true that plastic is not degradable, well, the planet will simply incorporate plastic into a new paradigm: the earth plus plastic. The earth doesn’t share our prejudice toward plastic. Plastic came out of the earth. The earth probably sees plastic as just another one of its children. Could be the only reason the earth allowed us to be spawned from it in the first place. It wanted plastic for itself. Didn’t know how to make it. Needed us. Could be the answer to our age-old egocentric philosophical question, 'Why are we here?'
