LL has suddenly requested I remove all my plants from the balcony immediately because of alleged damage and complaints (currently unsubstantiated), and is going to do an inspection in 11 days. This sounds like she's on the warpath now and wants to force me out.
Of course I can't get any advice on what my rights are until Monday, but for now I've sent an email asking for some evidence. I'm not removing my plants just like that.
I don't feel safe or happy at all. I don't really wanna go back to the apartment right now.
Well I haven't even put in a VCAT application, just a CAV review of the rent increase - and I even told her it could very well end up being in her favour but I just needed to explore my options.
Oh it absolutely is. Land tax has gone up and the market rate has as well... It's just that she suddenly withdrew the offer of negotiation - I would've thought keeping on a good tenant would be worth something. And I have every right to apply for a review. asking me to remove all my plants all of a sudden is rather unreasonable...
Sounds like it was for the best to leave anyway, even if it feels crappy now. You'll look back and think this was the best thing that could have happened
This whole year sucked for me work wise. I had a stressful project at the start of the year. Then I was facing a redundancy, then I've been going through this for the past 9 weeks. It's been so stressful, I'm just glad it's over
I'm more excited to have my spring back. I started around this time last year and things were so much easier. I picked my kids up early from childcare and took them to a park before home. I'd like to do that again a few times before I start something else
performance plan is really just "Paid Job Hunting notice period" anyway. On to bigger and better things. And hey if you value your sanity dont come to my work. Shit is a dumpster fire.
That was my problem, I didn't get on the job hunt seriously soon enough. I thought I could get through it, started looking at jobs, had some interviews that didn't go anywhere, and didn't pick it up as much until the last meeting. I'm getting the standard 2 weeks pay so if I can pick up an immediate start contract I might be able to coast for a bit
A recruiter I've worked with before has a contract role that's the exact thing I'm looking for. These roles are always an immediate start so things may just work out. And to think how grateful I'll be to the first place that takes me after all this
Fuck, it's the day for bad news hey. I'm so sorry to hear about your work situation, it's an awful feeling to be terminated and can set off so many bad thoughts. Vent here as much as you need. I'd like to think it's an opportunity for you to move onto somewhere you'd be better appreciated - my hope for you is in a year's time you'll be able to look back on it all and laugh at how fucked up your workplace was
Barring the one on the far left, they're roughly the locations of original concrete and brick dividers in a garden bed i've been painstakingly prying out out and cleaning up over the past year (salvagable concrete chunks will become crazy paving, bricks a pathway). His Lordship liked the dividers, but they had to come out, they were falling apart, cracking and subsiding, plus i wanted to put in raised and wicking beds (getting old and i already broke my back).
It also has a retaining wall around it, but no outlet for water (and at the bottom of a slope), so it bogs a bit...my solution was getting a hole punched in the side, dig agi in along the divider lines and when i backfill i'm gonna echo the original dividers by having channels of river pebbles famed by aluminium edging along the lines.
I had a little adventure. I had to drive the Kluger home. I've only driven an auto once in 20 years. Anyway I got home and realised I didn't know how to turn it off. A phone call later sorted that out. I then took the little doolackey out of the console and locked it. I checked to make sure it's locked by the door handle and it beeped at me and the mirrors opened up. Did it again. Same. Shamefully I did it again. Same. So I spent 20 minutes outside babysitting an unlocked car. Technology hates me and i hate technology.
Anyway cheers you smarter more competent tech people 🍺
I got a mate who brought a new car recently. It was an auto and his old car was a manual. he had to go back into the showroom and ask them how to take off cause the electric handbreak wouldnt disengage, all he had to do was shift to Drive from park, but they didnt tell him that and he had no idea. So dont feel too bad.
Thanks. I got in it, adjusted the seat, put my seatbelt on, looked down and said "is there a button I have to press to put it in drive"? Apparently the answer is yes as the man showed me.
i've got a yucky intolerance response to some fruit yoghurt, ( yes, I had a lacteeze ) lips on fire, eyes burning. Extra lactose in the recipe perhaps? Not too pleased about it.
Flatpacked raised veggie patch arrived today. SO MANY FUCKING BOLTS that took me 3hrs and of course a few were missing. Happy to at least visualise it now though.
I rage-installed Brave browser today. Been a firefox user for a long time but its getting resource hungrier and performance-worser on my laptop (linux). So far so good. Brave is fast but otherwise similar to Chrome.
This has been Friday night geek chat with Oldgreeeeeg.
Brave is Chromium based so it might be resource hungry as well. Librewolf is Firefox based with more privacy built in, you might be able to get some mileage out of that
I ordered some regular baby items from Chemist Warehouse online. I'm hoping they track the transaction on my account and send me emails when they stuff goes on sale again. You've got to use surveillance capitalism to your benefit sometimes.
I understand that. Things would be so much better if housing also included things like chicken coops and greenhouses. There's a chapter about it in The Conquest of Bread and it makes me sad thinking about what we could have had
Yeah I can kind of imagine. thats the problem with a collective rise like that. Everyone knows your all getting screwed together so you can effectively unionize. How'd they not expect the reaction they got though?!
So, BIG project due end of year (wasn't enough time in the first place) has had a sudden and abrupt change of course. Because of course it has. All our comms and training material need to be completely redone. And I'm finding the phrase "Do it yourselves motherfuckers" is rolling around in my head, but not yet my lips.
edit: gonna delete the teams here, but rest assured they are all idiots.
And the only thing we all have in common is we think the project is unrealistic, deliverable and the head of IT is an idiot.
What's the etiquette around calling about a job after it closes? I put in for a job I really want and it closed today.
I'll bedamned if I leave it in god's hands from here. Do I call on Monday mentioning I have some ideas I'd like to put in a presentation if I get an interview? Something to tease their curiosity a bit?
I was thinking I'd call the contact person that would be the manager of the role. I'll wait until the middle of the week and I can use that time to draft what I'd present to them
The zucchini seeds are already sprouting… that was fast. Not all have started but a fair few have - one is even way ahead of the others and has its first set of leaves
For the metal heads in here, a new Blood Incantation album just dropped. It incorporates their prog elements with their metal side of things really well. First impressions are I really like it and it just might be my album of the year.
A blackbird flew in the other week. I caught it before it hurt itself or my stuff and tossed it back outside. Now I swear I keep catching it inside the doorway a little. It sounds kinda bird racist but I can't tell it apart from other blackbirds, aside from it's female/brown. I read that patting a birds head is a bit sexy for them, maybe I've got a blackbird admirer, she probably only wants me for me bread/cheese crumbs.
Forced downtime so trying to take advantage and somewhat death clean myself.
Stuff = 1, Moi = 0
Why are there just some things that are inconvenient to store nicely. Yes, I have a gazillion ring-bound manuals. No, I haven’t opened them in forever. Yes, I need them.
Haha, I hear you. That’s what I recently mentioned as my two week rule. I finally part with something and two weeks later… Yep, found a use for it, but don’t have it anymore.
Have made a Dr appointment for tomorrow. I've got these weird things which came up on my arms in a few spots in the past couple of weeks. Thought they were ringworm or similar fungal thing, was treating them with OTC topical cream. Was wondering how TF I got it. But the cream didn't work and they've flared up hugely as a result of my treatment 😳☹️ The same thing happened with my feet a couple of years ago; I thought it was tinea, treated it accordingly and the whole situation got instantly massively worse and it turned out to be eczema.
Might be stress-related psoriasis. I have that in my hairline and the outside of my elbows, and its a pain to deal with. Cortisone cream works quite well. If the things are scaly patches that flake off leaving a red sore mark. Might be worth raising this with the dr.
I have psoriasis, behind my ears. It rarely comes up on my face but doesn't stick around. I've tried so much to treat it, and I really think it's stress/mental health. So annoying. Been there since I was a kid, but usually migrates every few years slightly.
I have a new cream to try though, so we'll see how that plays out.
Tinea cream can make eczema worse and vice versa, and the skin breakdown from eczema can mean fungal infections take hold more easily, too. My dr suggested mixing a little of both treatment creams together, if either single treatment wasn’t working.
It might be contact dermatitis or something like that - have you been using any new products lately?
got my first round of eczema earlier this year (which i ignored and used the wrong stuff on until i finally saw a GP a few months later for something else), a ridiculous amount of moisturiser every few hours and a little cortisone did the trick
I wish! Been every other year, but couldn't afford it this time :(
Are you more interested in the video games? Or the board games? Dice?
I always loved the miniature painting and the team games with the motion controllers they do. And trying out all the board games and card games they have. I also like going to the talks they do, some are so so interesting.
And then all the cosplay, people put so much effort, time and love into making amazing displays, and I am just in awe everytime I see them.
I went once in the ages ago and had a good time, went to a few talks like for The Witcher 3, struggling to remember what else since it was from awhile ago.
Bought a lil indie game called Tiny Glade. Super fucking chill, no management, no quests, no objectives. Just some basic tools, cute, tilt-shifted graphics, and you build a tiny lil town. It's adorable and so so relaxing. I was worried for a moment about it being perhaps too barebones, but I've built a main street, a lil castle, raised some land and made a flower hill with a lake, and made a silo. There's a lot they could add, but it's a bit procedural in a way (increasing/decreasing the size and shape of a building causes it to generate to make sense). Coloured everything I could colour. I have so much more to build for my little hamlet
Had a convo with a couple of colleagues the other day about dark mode. They dont understand how I can work with it. I dont understand how you can use all white in office or outlook and that NOT hurt your eyes?
so DT, what do you use? I'm dark mode all the way. Windows, Office apps, even my phone.
Dark mode, no argument. The only correct answer is dark mode. It's easier to see, write, and read, and doesn't give me a headache.
Normal/light mode, I can literally feel my eyes strain and ache, my retina blasted away by the searing white light.
Edit: just realised light mode is the same feeling I get when I'm reading a book, and the sunlight hits the page just right so it glows, but you're too comfy to move and try to read through it... And go blind
I'm the freak that uses light mode. But after all these comments, I'm going to give dark mode another go. I've never had it on for more than 5 minutes once to decide I didn't like it.
I'm logging into and out of too many systems/servers etc in a day to tweak everything everywhere to Dark Mode. Ask me if I prefer it, then yes. Am I going to modify this remote server's settings to Dark Mode (assuming the OS even supports it)? meh.
I am comfortable either way. I will say that my personal computer is configured for Dark Mode, if that somehow answers the question.
Oh, my Kindle app on phone/tablet is absolutely set to Dark Mode. That's probably the one case where I would mind. I wouldn't want to read a book for several hours without dark mode.
I can't believe people are still bothered by daylight savings. I get it if you have kids. That's a different kettle of fish but gee if you're a grown arse adult I can think of a million and one other things to be shitty about.
WA had a three year trial from 2007-2009. It was fine, but they had a referendum and voted against adopting it. But everyone spent three years talking about it.
I moved to Melbourne in 2008. Melbourne didn't talk about Daylight Savings by comparison, nobody seemed to mention it at all. You just adjusted your clocks and went about your day. It was refreshing. By about 2012, most of the clocks would adjust themselves.
but near everyone there hates me, even had people shun me or call me names. mil constantly disses and baits me with hate , and many are raging bigots/haters
but I kinda understand and like the b'day girl, she tries hard to be a good person ( tho she never contacts me , i never contact her )
don't want to go, won't go, but will send gifts because maybe one day they will learn to look at how people behave and learn to not listen to gossip
I would listen to your gut and protect your mental health if you need to. You deserve respect and not to be treated like that.
If the birthday girl is close to you then perhaps you and she could arrange a coffee? If not sending best wishes and a gift is fine in my book
Edit: But that’s just me. I’ve been worn down to a really low tolerance for toxic situations and would genuinely prefer to isolate than put myself through them
Well plans changed with my having to help family with their stuff and also with me making a stuff up so I ended up not having much to spend on myself in the end.
I've limited myself to a coffee so far.
The cafe I'm sitting at wanted 15 dollars for a chicken schnitzel roll with a layer of lettuce, 3 slices of tomato and it didn't look too big.
I really struggled with the playlist today so I've started with an hour of oldies then we'll play the rest on the fly. It always starts nice and demure with something like Dion and ends in something like Disturbed with flashing lights, more shots and heavy bass.
