Airplane! is the perfect comedy
  • I wish it was so simple. Really it should be. A word can mean any number of things based on context or inflection but now i have to really be careful as to not offend. I feel like that's a created thing.

Obviously i say things in a friendly way or in a mean way and I feel like we are just going the "you can't say that word" route. When it's not the word, it's the context.

As such, yes anyone who finds that picture offensive falls into that group. It was also a great movie. Let's dissect Spaceballs for racism next!

  • You can remove or disable Windows 11 and 10's AI 'bloat' with new BloatynosyAI
  • Thank you. It does seem cool but I can't really keep up. I appreciate the explanation. I really thought it was a fully workable de-bloated win11. Which it is, but I need long term installs. I learned a few things though! So not a waste.

If i could ever figure out how to run a windows app via VM. Seamless mode comes close but not quite enough.

Anyway thanks and I didn't mean to be negative, just didn't totally get it.

  • Neat. I tried this last night on my once top of the line machine (in 2012) because why not..

It didn't upgrade my win10 install but at least it didn't delete all my data. Maybe I goofed on that as I was tired.

I used the 23H2 iso but it installed 22H2.

I didn't use the script, it picked up my existing valid key.

It fails to update. Perhaps that's the point or bloat would come back?

But if it can't update then what's the point?

Again, might be my fault but I'm not really trusting this image yet. Not enough to reinstall and relicense my tools.

I use Linux where I can but I'm bound to some windows-only proprietary software. I do use a stripped down win10 VM for a lot of it but at least it updates.

Will update this comment if i find that I'm at fault.

  • Ultraviolet light can kill almost all the viruses in a room. Why isn’t it everywhere?
  • Thanks for reply but yeah we are in agreement. That's why I quit using it like 2 decades ago. If it can destroy organic matter that obviously includes ours.

I was just curious on the quantity thing. A general air blown ozone generator will not hurt if at low power. It obviously won't provide any benefits either. But for water it's useful so was curious if you knew something i didn't.

On topic - a powerful UV lamp (not something you'd want to hit your eyes) in your central AC is still very useful. Airborne stuff, mold spores, etc. at a minimum it keeps the coils clean.

  • Ultraviolet light can kill almost all the viruses in a room. Why isn’t it everywhere?
  • Can you elaborate a little more? I used to have an ozone generator but, and it's been a long time, it seemed that at useful levels it would be dangerous but what are "small quantities"? I have however found them useful to be used at high power for a short time to clear a car or house of smoke of pet odor (unoccupied of course).

I use the pool ones to keep water tanks sterile with an ORP meter for control and that seems to work well but it is extremely corrosive. It breaks down really fast though so I don't think it's causing any harm... Is it?

  • I am *straight*
  • I CHOOSE to drink!

  • Your washing machine could be sending 3.7 GB of data a day — LG washing machine owner disconnected his device from Wi-Fi after noticing excessive outgoing daily data traffic
  • Open standard.. hah.. like bacnet was supposed to be? More and more i deal with bacnet devices that make some data unreadable (proprietary) so what was the point?

Agree with other posts about sending data to the cloud to work. Also I'm certainly way behind on my washing machine tech because I can't fathom a reason they should be online. So I can get an alert when the cycle is done? Ok fine.. stupid but fine - as long as it stays local.

  • Your ads dont work here, brand!
  • I've used Pihole for so long.. I bought the original pi as a curiosity but Pihole was best use of it.

Here is the problem though, which i assume applies to all adblockers: everything is now "sponsored links". Google, Amazon, etc. They are of course blocked which is getting really frustrating.

So what do we do now? Is there a way to just send fake telemetry? Saw VLANs mentioned. Is that the way? I'm getting older and life gets busier and it's harder for me to keep up on this.

  • Walmart, Costco and other companies rethink self-checkout, some stores removing them
  • It's always the bagging thing that fails for me. I'm not the smartest person in the world but I can scan an item and place it in the bagging area. It's kinda out of my hands at that point. Be it calibration or incorrect data sometimes it won't recognize and after a couple attempts locks and some underpaid person has to come roll their eyes at me and swipe a card to let it go through.

I've probably just been unlucky and gave up 10yrs ago on that.

No they don't train cashiers beyond what button to press. Produce is interesting. It's been a while (love curbside service) since I've been in a grocery store but ours has tags on produce you show to a scale and it weighs it and prints out a sticker with a barcode.

And I just realized how abusable that is. I'm going shopping tomorrow!

    Oh what's the 4011 thing? Doesn't ring a bell.

  • Walmart, Costco and other companies rethink self-checkout, some stores removing them
  • It's funny how divided a topic this is.

Could just be my area but the machines always fail in some way or another.

Give me 10%off if I am doing the job of an absentee cashier... Always cool seeing many checkouts all decked out in gear with noone there to run them. Ever.

OR, even better, use some decades old tech and spend a penny to put RFID tags on everything so I can just run my cart through and verify the list of stuff and click Yes, No, Maybe.

Somewhat related.. is it just me or are liquor stores the best at this? I never even stop moving and I'm out. Then i go next door to the pet store to grab some animal chow and I stand in line for 10mins because just one register of 6 is staffed.

At least we can order everything online for the most part now.

  • Japanese experimental nuclear fusion reactor inaugurated
  • But coal workers are a bedrock of American ideals! We can't take their jobs!

Is a /s needed? I don't know anymore. Do people really enjoy being coal miners and want their children to follow that wonderful career? I can get a yes to that question but only from people who have no idea what that entails.

  • wtf happened to dave chappelle
  • True. I don't really know what people listen to these days but my once best friend went into a spiel regarding the whole bud light issue and it was so absurd I just finally said hey you have some major insecurity issues. And left.

Like trans people just popped up out of nowhere.. victims of the liberal media!

But I do honestly believe insecurity is a large driver of hate. Hey i like you whoever you are as long as you aren't being an asshole. That's pretty much as far as my judgment goes. Pretty simple!

  • Programmer tries to explain binary search to the police
  • They don't care really. As has been my experience anyway.

I once had my car window smashed, a mix of gear taken..some was expensive, some was personal to me. I felt violated. Called the police, explained, gave S/Ns to what I could, told them exactly who did it. He didn't give a shit. Actually made me feel like I was wasting his time. I think Seinfeld covered this..

"We'll let you know if we find anything" "Do you ever find anything?" "No"

But oh, my reg is out of date and the plate scanner picked it up? Boom, they really kick it into gear. So that's $130.. i could just go take care of the tags immediately with a friendly warning but now don't even want to. And in the end I end up pretty fucked.

If only they put that effort into other things I just might have gotten my linear power amps back. Props to anyone who knows that product.

  • Car dealers say they can’t sell EVs, tell Biden to slow their rollout
  • That's cool.. 150k? Nice. I regret not getting one when i had the chance but I felt like it should had at least a small turbo. And i wasn't overly confident with the aftermarket stuff. That said the gt86 platform is quite a base to build on.

But yeah, i hate the trend of a big touchscreen to do everything. Sometimes i wonder if it's just getting old but I really feel like the UIs are awful.

Display is ok for GPS and maybe some audio but I certainly prefer standard tactile interface methods. You are right, dying breed. Enjoy your ride!

  • Car dealers say they can’t sell EVs, tell Biden to slow their rollout
  • This drives me crazy. Take a solid platform like the FRS.. electrify it for something equiv to 300/300 and give it a 200 mile range. No fancy interior, lots of plastic, no lane assist etc. It would be fun and affordable. Same platform could be used for a more refined crossover.

I feel like Honda really should have done some type r civic thing but with electric.

  • ‘Stop the price-gouging’: Biden hits corporations over high consumer costs
  • I gotta say, that was an impressive amount of words to say nothing.

  • What’s in a name?
  • It's quite possible, just not my experience. I've seen a lot of really neat shells and stuff wash up but not sand dollars. So i don't want to suggest people actually do that. But it's certainly easy enough. Probably why it's illegal.

I do suggest, if you get the chance, to check them out live. As i kid i had a few skeletons but seeing them in action was way cooler. It's not super exciting or anything, just kinda neat. Same as another one on that list - the horseshoe crab. I helped one get out of a shallow and it seemed appreciative.. at least as much as an ancient creature can be.

Stingrays are kinda dicks though so keep that in mind.

  • What’s in a name?
  • Interesting. In south FL you can (or could, been a while) hit certain places and find the keyhole variant by the hundreds. Fascinating creature, all those tube feet to move. It's illegal to take them but that didn't stop shops from selling the ones that "washed up" which doesn't really happen.

But for some reason people actually buy them. It's a skeleton of a creature someone scooped up and let bake in the sun for a month. Kinda creepy!

  • Apparently Elon scrubbed the Maine shooter’s Twitter account, because Elon was frequently featured in his view history
  • Here is the problem I see- you make this news and maga will immediately turn it into a deep state/antifai/Soros/FBI false flag operation.

Maybe they have already, i stay out of that nonsense these days. You just can't change these people's minds as easy as they can be programmed by right wing media.

Pretty obvious what this guy was listening to and I'm sad for the families that have to deal with his bullshit actions. I can't even imagine being gunned down just bowling with friends. We can't ignore the RW media's role in this.

  • For some reason, I'm doubtful.
  • What are you on about?

I'm actually in complete agreement with you. Yes there are safeties and whatever, I was just saying those safeties aren't exactly monitored as you would expect. Don't worry, I'm sure it won't affect you. Wasn't this just about chart recorders?

As for the personal stuff, sorry you took it that way. You want to argue about something we agree on and I know exactly how that goes. As such, i suggest we just skip to the part where we chill and do something fun. No you aren't my child but picking apart my simple comment is sorta.. well you know. It's all good, you might be one in 8 billion but I'm still your friend. Take care.
