Insight: She's 47, anorexic and wants help dying. Canada will soon allow it.
  • She can apply but it doesn't mean she'll get it. It's being expanded to allow consideration for mental conditions. There's still a ton of hoops and second opinions needed to get approved.

There is way too much misinformation and sensationalism over MAID

  • [Ottawa Citizen] Wildfire smoke expected to return Wednesday-Thursday
  • This start to the summer has just been crap. It's been cyclically too hot, then too rainy, then too dry and then too fiery. I guess this will just become the new normal for Ottawa as the climate emergency really takes hold.

  • Question: Are there any Reddit admins on lemmy I wonder
  • Honestly I'm sure a lot (or at least some) of the reddit employees who have been there for longer feel the same way as we do. I can imagine if you joined back when reddit was open source or even shortly after, seeing reddit go down this path would be upsetting.

I know if my company decided to screw over our users this badly, my morale would be non existant. Most people don't have that much loyalty to their companies and reddit would be no different

  • Olivia Chow elected Toronto's next mayor in unexpectedly tight race | CBC News
  • Congrats Toronto! I'm jealous you guys got to actually vote in someone progressive (I'm from Ottawa and we recently voted to slightly lower property taxes over everything else)

  • After a COVID-19-imposed drought, the Capital area is beginning to live up to its Festival City nickname.
  • I've never heard of us being referred to as festival city lol

  • tildes Invitation
  • It's pretty nice if you're into programming articles! I wouldn't say it's a full reddit replacement since it's more geared to programmers, similar to hacker news but I think it's worth having around. There's also a decent mobile app for iOS called Claw

  • Thank you so much! Do you want a lobste.rs invite?

  • tildes Invitation
  • I'd also love an invite as well if anyone has one. I can return the favour with an invite to lobste.rs :)

  • Wiki on fediverse?
  • If a federated wiki could replace fandom.com I would be so happy. That site is a nightmare of ads on mobile and needs to be replaced.

  • ‘Long overdue’: Cosmetic testing on animals now banned in Canada
  • I didn't know this wasn't already banned... I guess I'm happy it is now

  • First they came for /r/pics ... now Reddit are coming for the individual personal subreddits
  • It'd be hilarious to see them try to hand your own personal page to a random other person to moderate. It makes no sense

  • Have you already encountered those new bots on Lemmy?
  • These spam bots wouldn't list themselves as bots so that wouldn't work

  • Now if only something bad could happen to StackOverflow
  • But Reddit and SO are the only two results that give me the answers I need/want

  • Wikipedia founder is also creating a reddit alternative
  • It's not apparently. I was just reading that the creator is going to GPL it though and is also considering federating it.

See the Software section here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WT_Social

  • Memmy: Solid start on IOS Lemmy client
  • Oh! I missed that

  • Memmy: Solid start on IOS Lemmy client
  • I believe it's only for iOS unfortunately Ignore me, it is for Android too

  • un-reddit browser extensions?
  • You could block the website in the parental settings on your router if it supports it!

  • why do people like beer?
  • You can't get drunk off it? You'd have to have a really high alcohol tolerance unless you're drinking really light beer.

Also, I like the taste of beer and so do most people who drink it, as I'm sure you know. I'm not sure what the point of you asking this is
