Pastor alarmed after Trump-loving congregants deride Jesus' teachings as 'weak'
  • Problem is that the morality taught by Christianity, and most other large organized religions, is extremely outdated and has spent many hundreds of years being corrupted by those in power to oppress others. I mean these people literally believe that God will punish our entire society if we don't eradicate LGBTQ groups. I actually think these people would be much more tolerant of others if they had never encountered organized religion and just learned to coexist with others organically.

  • How does everyone feel about Google Pixel phones?
  • I've been using a Pixel 3 for about 5 years and I love it. I actually got a pixel 7 for work earlier this year and honestly prefer the pixel 3 lol. I've had some charging issues because lint gets stuck in the charge port, but I've been able to mostly solve those by cleaning out the port with a toothpick.

  • How capitalism made concerts be a bourgeois entertainment only
  • Taylor Swift is the most popular artist right now by a long shot. I'd say less of an over population problem and more of a social media hype machine problem lol. There are plenty of other incredible artists one can go to for much less. Even Ed Sheeran who is very very popular can be seen in my area for less than $50.

  • Term: Fascism
  • You're spot on. Fascism and communism are at their core extremely similar ideologies. It all comes down to how you define your "tribe". In fascism this is defined by race, ethnicity, and religion, whereas for communism this is defined by class. Both ideologies favor populism, in that the good of the "tribe" is more important than the good of the individual, and if you're not in the "tribe" then you can get fucked. And both ideologies view the tribe as infallible in so far as that anything wrong in society must be the result of outside influence. I'd recommend looking into the work of Yuval Noah Harari, he's written a lot of very insightful books on these topics.

  • Bryan Cranston Tells Bob Iger ‘Our Jobs Will Not Be Taken Away’ by AI in Rousing Speech: You Will Not ‘Take Away Our Dignity’
  • It's actually very different. An AI is not something that you just go build and then it's immediately useful. One an AI is built it needs to be trained in a process where it is exposed to examples of real works (text, image, video, etc) and "learns" how to reproduce similar works. This learning process involves using the real works to fine tune parameters of a large mathematical model. These tuned parameters are what make the AI an AI and not just a useless pile of random numbers. So arguably, the owner of every work used to train the model is as much a contributor to the AI as the AI company itself.

These media companies not only want to use artists' works to train a model that they will not be given any ownership of, they want to also own the rights to an artist's image and likeness to be able to reproduce that image and likeness in a potentially infinite number of derived works without needing to compensate the artist.

    • Maintaining a balance of calories in vs out is really hard. In particular fats are extremely difficult to acquire.
    • Getting almost anything done requires hard manual labor, which means you need even more calories.
    • Harsh winters mean food scarcity and burning even more calories just keeping warm.
    • You're completely fucked if you get sick or injured.
    • Boredom, loneliness and stress could drive you insane.

  • Pillars of Eternity 2. I'm not all that far in, but I've been loving it so far. The characters and story feel really well crafted, and there's just a ton of variability in how you can construct your party and progress. Hopefully the quality continues throughout since the first POE felt like it ended abruptly.

  • How i feel on Lemmy
  • It's also an oppressive police state where huge portions of the population live in poverty and endure awful working conditions. Oh and they're actively engaged in genocide against a minority ethnic group. But sure if we just ignore all the downsides it's great.
