I think we can both guess why our friend here is mad about this story...
Scientific advancement in space experimentation leads to breakthroughs in other areas - all scientific progress is interconnected.
"Pushing science towards solving the most immediate and important problems" is sort of a nonsense statement, as there could be new efficiencies/strategies that are discovered in fields that are completely unrelated to what would normally be associated with "the most immediate and important problems."
Its going to be interesting seeing the Republicans do their batshit policies, as people REALLY hate having their bottle taken away ("bottle" in this case being the ACA, prices of goods, abortion access, etc.)
The United States just needs a reminder of just how bad things can be. They'll learn if you keep hitting them hard enough...
They can be satisfied they did less than nothing when Gaza is turned into a parking lot for the newest Israeli Megamall.
Then again, since it apparently didn't matter either way, I guess there was no hope for the Palestinians. Maybe they'll all be reincarnated as white people next time around as a universal consolation prize or something lol
Love me some niche political RP scandal write-ups
My musing is not the sole reason why I'm voting for Harris, but you are correct that it is not exactly up to her (which of course kind of undermines the continuous claims I see from people saying she could end the genocide right this second).
I actually wonder if she has a different stance on Israel but simply will not/cannot talk about it because she is also the VP and it's a "bad look to go against the boss," so to speak.
Yeah...at best they're just useful idiots for the powers that be to exploit/point out as "look they are all crazy."
Having dealt with them, they seem utterly committed to both parties being bad because they both serve capitalist ends and the ruling class (which is true tbh), but then fail to grasp that while both sides aren't great, one side is at least doing SOMETHING positive while the other is actively trying to destroy things.
Just from a climate standpoint, at least the Dems are passing some kind of legislation about green energy and agree it exists, whereas the Republicans deny it and want to cut all remaining protections. This leaves us with two options: either these people want things to get worse out of some desire for change acceleration (yikes), or they really are just that stupid and can't see any difference.
But also, you are literally killing Palestinians by saying these things - join me in waggling my finger at the government to feel better about yourself!
The problem, of course, is that they have opted for the self-destructive course and lash out uselessly at people who want change but have been forced to look at the reality of the situation and try to reduce damage as much as possible.
What they are doing now, calling anyone who votes Democrat a genocide supporter, is a prime example of that useless lashing out, as it isn't productive, particularly in a rather small online space.
It's probably best not to bother - these people want things as shitty as possible as fast as possible to make the revolution happen sooner or some shit
Unlike the Republicans, I am of course being facetious in my statements, though, one could make an argument such a thing is already occurring with Police and minorities...
That said, the plans Republicans have put forward absolutely do include the outright killing of "pedophiles," with "pedophile" being defined as "any person that distributes obscene content to minors or espouses "sexually explicit things to kids," effectively allowing them to kill drag queens or LGBT+ people as their very existence is labeled as obscenely content for minors.
I don't know why the Dems don't drop some of their gun control policies, but its not an issue I'm really super concerned with either way compared to other things.
Yeah...its so obviously bullshit, which sucks, because I agree it is terrible what is happening in Gaza, but these mouthbreathers don't seem to grasp that the world isn't an easily defined place and solutions aren't ever easy (inb4 I get one of them screaming "JuSt sToP vOtInG fOr ThEm" or whatever, lol).
"Fix your goddamn country"
Ah yes, let me just snap my fingers and fix all the problems of where I live lol
Another day, another smattering of "leftists" in safe blue states trying to be armchair activists while folks in red states fight to not be hunted for sport by the ruling class.
I'm sure glad it's easy to hide behind "both parties bad" or whatever nonsense they come up with this time.
Sigh... we both know this isn't going anywhere. Neither of us will give in because both of us feel strongly about our positions and will not budge on them because of our feelings that we are doing the right thing (and no amount of saying I support genociders will change that).
Anything you say that's less than Russia totally pulling out of Ukraine I can easily say is supporting genocidal dictators in the same way you say voting for the Democrats is supporting genocidal regimes and we can keep going back and forth ad nauseum, so I'll save us both the trouble.
Just remember, the average American is wildly less socially conscious than you'd like to believe, though the fact that so many poor factory workers are anti-union should make that somewhat self-evident. Whatever you plan to do better be a bit more compelling than just talking about Muslims a world away to the decidedly closed-minded rural population of Middle America.
Yup. There's no other reason to not want the Republicans to get into power, besides the climate, immigration, and Israel, no siree. Not a single other thing that might impact my day to day life
And there's not a single thing the Dems have ever done that's good. Yup.
Ah, the classic tankie defending Russia, the country with the constant historical instances of brutalizing the nations around it.
I guess it sucks that Russia can't simply smash Ukraine like they did last time in the 20s, because nothing bad happened after Ukraine was subjugated a decade later lol
Oh, who am I kidding? You probably don't believe the USSR did anything bad.
As for your other statements: I'm going to operate under the idea of protecting the people I know vs those I don't, as there is basically nothing I can do to stop the problem, and I've already determined that going with the less damaging to them option is the superior one to not. I'd be happy to have an option that both keeps the people I care about safe AND stop genocide, but if I can't, I'm taking the next best thing - it really is that simple.
If you can't accept that and want to call me a genocide lover, go off lol, your words are worth as little as the next person's.
Nah, Himmler was too into the whole "German super race" and occultism - too "out there" for me personally.
And your flippant use of "you support genocide" to random people at the ballot box really helps the average person see the values of ditching capitalism.
Cute.
I'm certain the Palestinians we save from genocide will be thrilled to starve to death the next climate-change induced famine hits because we didn't try to minimize the damage.
