Britain’s most well-known UFO sighting may have been caused by a bout of electromagnetic-fuelled psychosis, a top researcher has claimed.
The Rendlesham Forest incident, where members of the US Air Force stationed at RAF Bentwaters and RAF Woodbridge in Suffolk, England, reported seeing unexplained lights and a craft in the forest in December 1980, has left people puzzled for decades over what the cause of the lights could have been.
It seems weird that they don't mention Nick Redfern's book on the topic where I believe he did a lot of the original research into the hallucinagen hypothesis. IIRC, it was moreso that it was an MKULTRA style experiment on British troops, not a naturally occurring, incidental EM plasma.
That's a misleading headline (not OP's or Lemmy's fault - they just relayed what the paper said verbatim). This is classic Daily Mail. They take bet-hedging, cautiously-crafted quotes and spin them into a absolute headline and story that suits their narrative.
Here's an actual quote of what Mantle said, from the article:. Bold emphasis is mine:
Philip Mantle, the former Director of Investigations for the British UFO Research Association and an author, said he is convinced something happened over those fateful nights in 1980 – but doesn’t necessarily think aliens were involved.
The fact that the map embedded in the article features literal little green men says so you need to know about the objectivity of the reporter/newspaper.
