Test: Testing how moderated posts are federated
  • Thank you! Seems like moderation actions on Lemmy seem to have no effect on how the thread is shown and boosted by the community's group account on other platforms. On mastodon.social at least, the reply is still boosted.

  • ... :0 Huh, that's interesting. Functionally, I don't think there's a way to differentiate between groups/communities and users on Mastodon. You should be able to search up the community by using its full URL (in this case https://sh.itjust.works/c/test), then it should point you to the corresponding group account. But it doesn't show up when I try. That's why I searched for the username directly. It also very weird that the user seems to be boosting threads and comments as a group would.

It's not a problem with the instance either, I can search and find other communities on this instance that way just fine. Looks like a bug to me? And not a Mastodon-exclusive one, on my side-account on goblin.band I get the same behaviour.

  • Thank you! Unfortunately, somehow this post didn't show up on the community's group account at all for some reason (even though older threads from about a week ago do show up normally), so I couldn't make any observations😔 I tried it again on !test_posts@reddthat.com, and so far the thread shows up alright, so I guess I'll continue my test over there

Edit: Now that I'm looking more closely, actually, this community doesn't seem to be a group at all! It should have a "Group" tag in its profile. 🤔 !test_posts@reddthat.com seems to be a proper group however, maybe that's why it behaves differently?

Test: Testing how moderated posts are federated

Hello, I would like to test if communities behave differently from regular groups on the Mastodon side, since they have a moderator and regular groups don't. I will post a reply and ask a moderator to remove it to see if something happens on the Mastodon view of this thread.

The blood on our Controllers - The Complicity of the Game Industry in the Palestinian Genocide

    > [Documentary] The blood on our Controllers - The Complicity of the Game Industry in the Palestinian Genocide > > Watch here > > Quoted from the video description: > > "The blood on our Controllers" is an amateur documentary made to denounce the role of the video game industry in the normalization of the Palestinian genocide, through its close relation with the military industrial complex and the representation of Arab communities in games. Itch.io Now has Generative AI Disclosure Tagging (and requires it for Assets)
  • The itch devs plan to add a negative AI filter to the UI so that users will be able to hide all content that uses genAI.

Except for that, there are community guidelines that forbid spamming low-effort AI content.

AFAIK projects that use AI will not be suppressed by default as long as they are properly tagged, if that's what you mean.

When you see a new otome game, how do you personally predict how much you'll enjoy it?
  • I think the game I mainly thought of when I wrote the comment was To Eat A God (which is more or less a yandere dating-sim) It's changed now but the game's original thumbnail was bright yellow and showed stylized art of one of the love interests and I was instantly like "Yoooo what's this? Looks sick". The dev is mainly an artist and this is their first vn but you can see that they went all out with the visuals.

Another I game I had this reaction to lately was The Phantom of The Black Rose revue, since it looks exactly like an 80s shojo manga a la Rose of Versailles, but it's Yuri so that probably doesnt count :/

  • When you see a new otome game, how do you personally predict how much you'll enjoy it?
  • For me, aesthetics play a huge role in VNs, so the artstyle would be the first dealbreaker. I'm honestly not much of a fan of the typical Otome game artstyle/character designs and often find them generic. On the other hand, once I stumble over a VN with a unique, strong art direction I'll instantly check it out.

Why are people preferring Blue Sky over Mastodon?
  • What S_H_K said, people have reported being rebuked for posting pictures without ALT-text and not CW-ing uncommon things like eye-contact or food, for example. One person notably received angry messages for posting about cutting their finger on a sheet of paper without CW. The worst accounts were of POC talking about racism they experienced and being told to put it under CW.

  • Why are people preferring Blue Sky over Mastodon?
  • We've had this exact conversation in this community two months ago already, in case you want to back read the comments from back then. Nothing significant has changed

To paraphrase my opinion from back then:

    • Easier onboarding, and a familiar, easier UX
    • customizable feeds you can subscribe to + starterpacks instantly give you full timelines and people to follow (and followers, if you're in many starter packs)
    • better discoverability, and therefore higher engagement
    • stacking moderation and excellent security features (e.g. detachable quote boosts, "the nuclear block")
    • many users who tried Mastodon first had bad experiences with "HOA"-like behavior and over-enthusiastic mods
  • Religious LGBTQ+ folks who are also anarchist have no safe place to speak their minds, and I think it's a shame.
  • Seconding this! Honestly the aggressive anti-religious attitude that seems to be popular on Fedi and (and big subreddits as well) annoys me to no end, and it always has an air of wanting to feel superior about it.

Spirituality can be a good, helpful, thing that anyone should be allowed to practice. It doesn't help that people always seem to equate religion itself with big institutions or particularly bigoted sub-groups.

I don't know if this incoherent rant makes any sense, anyway you're valid and I support you!

  • Survey by Japanese News Site Nlab asks users where they are moving to from Twitter/X - Misskey wins with 41% (n=5119)
  • No, @hitagi@ani.social was correct, the post originally had a typo in it, which I fixed after I got corrected through an earlier comment, but the replies don't seem to federate properly 😅 Also yes, Taittsu seems to be an intentional pun on Twitter

  • [Question] Content of this community: is VN dev stuff in general allowed?
  • Hi, welcome! I decided to create this as a "Ren'Py and visual novel development" community, so topics related to Ren'Py and vn-development in general are allowed. I didn't expect there to be enough engagement to justify a separate "VNDev" community in the beginning. I also have only used Ren'Py myself, so I couldn't offer support with e.g questions related to other engines. 😅

If there's actually enough interest in vn-dev with other engines, then I could make a general vn-dev community, I suppose? But thank you for your question, I might add a clarification to the rules.

    Pick Your Potion: Otome Edition
  • Aww I hope you can get it running!

It vaguely follows the manga's plot and covers about the same arcs as the first season of the anime, except that it's turned the narrative into a reverse-harem and inserted fever-dream like filler arcs (like the protagonist dreaming up an entire beach-episode??) There were also a bunch of mini games, one of which had you literally stalking your love interest of choice.

I chose to go for a non-canon route for my only run so far, the love interest (Aidou Hanabusa) of which was originally obsessed with one of the canon love interests instead of the heroine. I failed to seduce him and he recruited me into the fanclub instead. I cried laughing when I got to the end.

On top of that the protagonist is just very.. juvenile, which I really dislike, but all of the LIs adore her for her weird antics :/

It's just...hilariously bad, but it has very high production value. It's even fully voiced!

    Indie Detective VN Mirage Noir

Mirage Noir is a detective VN focused on found family, inspired by games like Ace Attorney and Bustafellows.

Story (quoted from the Steam page):

Play as a detective, solve cases, and try to catch an elusive serial killer in this mystery visual novel focused on found family (inspired by games like Ace Attorney and Bustafellows)

When Yunie graduated from college, she believed she had her whole life ahead of her. Returning to her hometown with a shiny new dream job, it seemed like nothing could stand in her way.

However, two years later, not much has changed. She hasn't made any new friends, isn't allowed to investigate anything worthwhile, and feels like she's stuck in mud, moving in place.

So when an unexpected opportunity arises, she doesn't hesitate to take it. The case is a weird one, but it introduces her to an eccentric team of people she immediately connects with, and she decides that no matter what, she won't regret getting involved.

Even if it means crossing paths with a serial killer.

Full game coming in 2026! The demo covers the entirety of the prologue.
