Russia's ruble sinks to 2022 March levels after US sanctions on Gazprombank
  • That's just hearsay, but even if true, it doesn't support your claim. "understanding" almost surely doesn't mean what you seem to think it means. And the part about 18-25 year olds are not "Ukrainian decision-makers".

Ukraine officials have been VERY clear, there can be no peace with concessions to Russia, because that will almost surely mean Russia will invade again, when they have gathered strength.

If Ukraine were to surrender territory, they would have to be allowed into NATO, to be secured from repeat attack from Russia. Otherwise Russia will just think they can take some piece of Ukraine now, and the rest later.

  • Russia's ruble sinks to 2022 March levels after US sanctions on Gazprombank
  • From your link:

Ukraine is being told it will have to make serious territorial concessions

That's not agreeing to make concessions. And a piece built on MAGA claims is not really an interesting read IMO.
If you want to make a point based on an article, quote the part you think support it.

    if America pulls out.

America is in no way in Ukraine, so they can't "pull out".

  • I have no idea, but he can't FORCE Ukraine to give up territory. That's not saying I know what he WILL do, but I know some things he CAN'T do.
EU supports Ukraine in their claim to get ALL territories back, including Crimea.

  • That's not even an option. How do you figure Trump would be able to do that? It's ridiculous.
There are limits to what Trump can do, without retaliation from the rest of NATO. Trump may be stupid, but he is not THAT stupid.

  • Absolutely, I was sure Harris would win, she was a very good candidate IMO, I cannot fathom why Americans think Trump will be a good president?
And yes apparently Harris lost, because democratic voters couldn't be bothered to vote?
Only time will tell what the Americans will lose, they may even lose their democracy! Something Americans have always fought for.
I think the people of some democratic countries take the benefits of living in a democracy for granted.

  • Losing US support will be a hard blow, But there are already plans for Europe to step up and support Ukraine more. Maybe it won't cover the loss of USA completely, But Ukraine already had to do without USA for 8 months, when the MAGA controlled house blocked the aid to Ukraine.

It doesn't seem like Russia has very high hopes regarding Trump, they even intensified efforts after Trump won for some reason?

  • EV game-changer: Next-gen Blade battery from BYD to launch in 2025
  • Some cars that historically were popular because they were cheap are now legendary.
Ford T, VW bubble (Beetle), Citroen 2CV, Morris Mascot.
Nothing wrong with cheap, cheap makes things popular, that would otherwise be out of reach for most.

  • The Ruble has declined 8.5% just today as we "speak". This looks like a very serious collapse of the Ruble. If the Ruble collapses, they can't as easily buy help from North Korea Iran and China.
With an internal economy already struggling with declining productivity, there is no way I can see Russia last several years in this war anymore.

Common essential goods like Butter, potatoes, eggs and sugar are already declining hard in production, and have increased prices of up to 70% compared to last year.

Russia has struggled to keep up the appearance that the economy is fine, but that boat has sailed now, now we are seeing the cracks cascading, maybe the onset of hyperinflation.

Russia is economically very much a dead man walking now. Yes they may be able to keep it up with the war for months maybe a year, but definitely not several years.

  • When your morning coffee tastes extra good (ruble at 108)
  • That's an amazing metaphor, it's a very clever way to say the Russian Central bank is losing their grip, and somehow it's kind of hilarious, imagining the Ruble as a free floating balloon out of control. 😋 👍

  • When your morning coffee tastes extra good (ruble at 108)
  • I'm not sure what you mean "downstream", and I doubt there will be any global impact from Russian stagflation. Globally Russia is not a very important economy, and they're already heavily sanctioned.

Ironically, if Putin had chosen cooperation with the west in 1991 instead of confrontation, Russia would have been the leading economy in Europe now, and Russia could have been as important to Europe as Germany!
But the Moron Putin chose to burn it all the fuck down. Because apparently being #1 in Europe wasn't good enough!?!?

  • Great phone, too bad I chose the glass back.

The glass back is NOT very resilient. it slipped from my pocket in my pants, while sitting on the terrace, a ca. 40-50cm drop, and the glass back cracked. This is the ONLY time I dropped it, so it's not like one time too many.

I'm never buying a glass back phone ever again. Glass is not premium, it's a design flaw.

Russia's Kharkiv offensive – what is the plan?

    >Russia has launched an offensive into the Kharkiv region, and it has created a lot of alarmist news reports. In reality it is difficult to see what Russia's plan is, and it is not self-evident that it is a smart use of resources. In this video I discuss whether we might be seeing a return to the fragmented command structures that Russia had in the beginning of the war.

4 months durability for an $800 phone!

My old $200 Motorola G9 Power phone lasted almost 4 years with only very minor scratches. Obviously in that period I have dropped it a few times getting out of the car, where the phone sometimes work itself out of my pant pocket while I drive, and then it slips out when I get out of the car. But no problem on my previous phones, despite the Moto had cheap Panda glass front.

Then I bought my $800 glass back Xiaomi 13T Pro in January, and I loved the phone for the camera and good specs. But alas after only 4 months, and single drop of just 30 cm while sitting on the porch, the glass back immediately cracked! The back now looks like an ugly mess, and the high water resistance is very likely gone too.

For sure the last time I buy a phone with a glass back!!!

I wonder why glass back is so popular, and I curse the media for reviewing the Samsung Galaxy S2 as "feeling a bit cheap", because the back was synthetic, and drop tests showed it was 10 times as durable as the iPhone with its glass back.

Samsung did it right in the beginning, glass backs are a curse.

PS: I don't use condoms for my phones, if they need that for daily use, it's an obvious design flaw!!!

The glass back is supposedly there to give a premium feel to the phone. But because it's fragile, people have to use a cover, but with the cover, the premium feel of a glass back is gone anyways? How is glass back not a design flaw?

    EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION:

I am not clumsy, that's why I believe the phone should be able to last without cover. This was the first time the phone slid out of my packet, and I've NEVER dropped it out of my hands. One 30 cm slip and it's broken. Where for instance my Moto had maybe 4-6 in all over the years, and remained unscathed, apart from some tiny scratches. The sliding out of pocket does occur maybe a couple of times per year, but it's a low drop, and the phone should absolutely be able to handle that tiny drop, as it's an item for everyday use. I've also never had problems with scratches on my screen on any phone, which is the reason people use screen protectors I guess, which I don't either, because they are ugly, for instance they create a tiny ring around the camera, and they feel awful IMO, my phone came with it, and it took exactly 10 seconds for me to decide to remove it, because I could feel the edge of the screen protector when using the phone. But please stop with the dropping my phone regularly comments! Just because I dropped my Moto a few times (slid out of pocket) over almost 4 years! Always from low height, which it should be able to handle a few times.

Why do Google searches not give maps links anymore?

It used to be very convenient that when searching for something that had a geographic location, Google searches used to show a small map which linked to Google maps when pressed. Now all I get i a tiny useless map, that doesn't have any of the feature of Google maps, and often I don't even get that. Anyone know why that is? And if there is a fix? I use Firefox, but I'm guessing it's independent of browser, unless Google is up to their shenanigans again. I've added Google maps as search option, which luckily is dead easy in Firefox to do. At the same time I added Open Street Map, to minimize Google map use to maybe show them they are losing traffic.

    EDIT:

I think this is the reason as u/garrett@lemm.ee writes:
