How much of a game changer was USB-C for you, compared to other cables?
  • The lint problem! The first time when my phone started acting up when charging I thought it was the USB jack that have worn out. Then I tried cleaning it with a needle. Still can't believe how much lint can fit in a USB-C socket.

  • What's the most obscure cyberpunk movie you've seen?
  • Not sure if it's obscure but Johnny mnemonic. But Tek Wars is a bit more ... B movie esque.

There was some 90s mini series that I haven't re watched since when it aired. Wild Palms. Maybe not cyberpunk. But future dystopia at least

  • I've used wooden cutting boards for about 30 years now. Never thought about that. But it makes sense with all the nooks and crannies in wood. I only wash mine in warm water and some detergent. Don't know if it's true, but I heard that wood has anti bacterial properties. With that being said, I never use raw meat on a wooden board.

In a related note, I saw that in a documentary about some monks in the US that made cheese. Traditionally they always had made it in large wooden tubs. Then they were forced to use stainless tubs because of health codes. After switching every attempt failed because every batch spoiled, probably because there was a good bacterial culture in the wood that helped the batch propagate the right culture, keeping the bad bacteria in check.

  • Planning to propose in a few months, what should I look for in a good value engagement ring?
  • Probably different depending on region. Our engagement rings were slate white gold and platinum. When we picked out her wedding ring we first went to jewelers. Everything there was kinda ugly. No elegance, just mass-produced bulky stuff. Unless you want to cough up at least 3000€. So we checked an auction house. Found a gorgeous diamond ring from the 1930s, real elegant and you could see the craftsmanship in every little detail. And I got it for 400€. Then took it to a jeweler to size it and engrave it.

So that could be an option.

Worst/Best discontinued products that are taboo now but ok yesteryear

Seeing another post about aunt Jemima products that were discounted due to racial stereotypes I was curious what's the worst product-fuckuo you have seen?

In Sweden we have a chocolate pastry ball that was called negerboll which translates to negro ball. Early 2000s it was deemed that it was not ok and it changed name to chocolate ball.
