Get ready for total chaos as House GOP wins historically puny majority
  • I worry a lot more about Dems appeasing the GOP at this moment. Unlike Trumps first election, there is now basically no resistance, and there’s already infighting among Democrats. Someone who unites the party must stand up now, or I don’t see any improvement in the midterms.

  • The problem I have with this point of view is that it describes the DNC as an enormous entity, when in reality they are a small organisation that mostly gets its financing from individual campaigns (especially the presidential campaign).

The issue the progressives face is not the DNC but systemic issues with politics in the US. A big issue is the reliance on campaign contributions by the rich. Another issue is the media environment. The DNC is just a tiny cog in a much larger machine.

  • Trump Begins War on Elites by Giving Them Powerful Government Appointments
  • Elite in their mind are people who do expert jobs, take home their paycheck and nothing more because they care about their job, such as scientists, teachers etc. People like Elon are rich and therefore by definition better than experts. Same goes for Trump: his corruption and criminal behaviour is what makes him smart.

  • I do see a difference between commercial applications by Google and seismic activities mapping by Stanford. Also if it comes from a university you know it’s been approved by some ethics board. Not saying those are perfect, but definitely better than Google.

  • Claims in 'Duty To Warn' Letter to Harris Alleging Compromised Election Are Misleading
  • It’s partly the way that non-Trump campaigns are run. They hire a ton of pollsters/consultants that do focus groups to find out voters points of view. They never consider the scenario in which a good candidate can change the worldview of the voters. So it sounds like the candidate never had an original thought in the world, when voters actually want a leader.

  • Greece stopped by 24-hour general strike over cost of living
  • Sorry I did not mean to both-side it. I am well aware that a union push will never come from the GOP. The main point was that because everything has become politicized there are no independent voices that can call for a national strike. If you want to dive deeper into why all is politicised you obviously come back to the conservative sphere (FOX, etc), so this is definitely not a both sides are bad argument.

  • Greece stopped by 24-hour general strike over cost of living
  • The first problem is the polarisation. If people that are perceived to be Democrats call out a general strike, 50 percent won’t participate. Vice versa if perceived GOP does this. The polarisation and politicisation of every topic is what stops you from organising effectively.
