I've changed my mind about Murai in Love. It had such a formulaic romance climax that I should have known better than to judge it before the end. To be fair, I think that romance stories should avoid using forced drama as their climax, but perhaps that's just me.
Thoughts on final episode:
Murai in Love spoiler
The head teacher has my respect. IMO he deserves better.
By the way, after listening to the opening song Henshin! a few more times, it ended up growing on me.
Anyway, I'm happy enough with the ending, so I'm bumping its score back up to 10 / 10. It also means it would be the first shoujo anime to enter my top favourites (though I noticed a significant number of listings are missing a demographic tag so it may not really be the first). Time will tell if stays up there though; I have revised scores downward after some time has passed when recency bias has less effect on me.
Also completed Barakamon, which is a big step up from Handa-kun IMO. Both are about equally funny (i.e. not funny enough), but Barakamon felt a lot more mature and meaningful.
I like the supporting casts more as well.
This feels like an 8.5, so I'm gonna be generous and round it up to 9 / 10.
I thought A Complicated Sibling Relationship 4-Koma is completed, but it turns out there is a 10-chapter long epilogue. The twists in the epilogue are as wacky as the main story.
I also read the oneshot Tsun na Kanojo to Nashi Togetai which is really cute. In fact, the rest of the mangaka's work look pretty cute too so I may just check them out.
And finally, I picked up two series over the past week:
As the Hero’s Mother, I Became an Executive of the Demon King’s Army - It's spin on isekai is that mother gets transported along with her son and the story focuses on her. It's not a crazy premise, but it's different enough to get me interested.
The Villainess Who Came to Marry Into the Frontier Noble's Household is an Exceptionally Capable Wife, Isn't She? - It's a run-of-the-mill story of the MC getting reborn as a side character in villainess otomege world. I shall see how it goes.
Edit:
Almost forgot to mention An Angel's Love At First Sight. It's kind of depressing, but wholesome too.
I like that they have a different voice actress for each girl, common sense be damned.
Rentarou was so smooth in the sequence with Mei.
Edit: so was Meru with Rentarou
As usual, Nozawa - the artist - has got incredible fashion sense. Rentarou did not wear the same outfit twice on dates in this chapter alone. In fact, I hardly (never?) see a repeat of their casual wear.

The only saving grace was that Okarun WAS wrong in that he lied to Momo about doing a report.
Agreed
I liked the animation of the dinosaur monster detecting Momo from the ripple she made.
Also, I'm annoyed that Dan Da Dan employed the usual miscommunication / misunderstanding trope. Momo could have heard Okarun out and avoided this needless conflict.
I don't think it's a big deal at the moment - I'm guessing it's going to be resolved by the next episode. I bet they would make up with each other in the midst of their fight and them doing so would - somehow - then enable them to defeat those supernatural beings.
I'm sensing a pattern with the "rules" here.

That's a true king.
In Konosuba,
Konosuba novel spoiler
the demon king was revealed to have a Japanese name, but wasn't isekaied. I bet the previously-isekaied, fuck-everything-up Japanese dude has got a hand in his name.
ice gun
Sounds like Portal mechanics
blob monsters
Slimes. Just call them slimes. Pretty much every gamer knows what slimes are.
I like how they, characters in a gal game, are playing a gal game.
This is the way; being straightforward is way better than the cliche wishy-washy romances.
it's a perfect comfort food for rough times
I wish this manga gets an anime adaptation.
What about Dan Da Dan is giving it such high ratings?
People like it. Personally, I like the story-telling, the characters and the execution.
Do you think I'd find this series worth it?
Hard to tell without knowing what you like. Based on what I've seen so far, I guess you'd like it if you enjoy a romcom filled with action and a pinch of emotional moments.
What is the expected age group for the show?
It feels like the target demographic is shounen / boys. I'm older (i.e. seinen), but I still enjoy it. I believe ladies (both shoujo / girls and josei / women) would like it too. IMO when it's good, the demographic matters less; everyone would like it.
the series description gave me a hard pass for the aforementioned reason
Felt to me like a bunch of nonsense being yelled at opponents until some cool anime action happened
I haven't (and don't intend to) watch JJK for the same reason: it sounds like a typical battle shounen anime that is boring as hell. That's not what is happening in Dan Da Dan.
I was originally going to pick up Oshi no Ko. Now that I know the ending, I don't think I'm going to - at least not in the near future. In fact, season 3 of the anime is now low priority on my watch list.
Oshi no Ko spoiler, kinda
After having been burnt by endings that I was unsatisfied with in the past, I have made it a habit of checking out the endings of the series (for those that ended) before starting them.
meta spoiler; multiple anime
With very few exceptions, non-happy endings for the protagonist just ruins the journey for me. In fact, this is one of the main reasons why I procrastinate starting on some series - e.g. Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans Season 2, Attack on Titan, Your Lie in April. (Top reason: high episode count) Even bittersweet endings like Wolf Children or high-quality shows like Cyberpunk Edgerunners just don't cut it.
Anyway, that's why I'd rather spoil myself. Spoilers won't really reduce my enjoyment of a series; an unsatisfactory ending would.
Oshi no Ko spoiler, kinda
So, boy am I glad I checked out the ending for Oshi no Ko. It's far from a happy one, and exactly the kind I want to avoid.
I did enjoy the story - at least up to the anime - but there's no chance of it being among my top favourites now.
Past Seasons
Completed Attack on Titan Season 3, both part 1 and part 2.
It already has many of the usual Gundam tropes in previous seasons, but now it introduced (or made explicit) one more: the princess figure. At this point, I'm expecting a Char clone (maybe Zeke?) and a weapon of mass destruction.
I enjoyed it a lot just like season 2, so I'm giving it a 10 / 10.
By the way, the Beast Titan shouldn't be able throw as well as he did.
This Season
At this point, I'm only following 3 series.
- Murai in Love - It is the dark horse of the season for me, but fell behind a bit as it approaches the end. I was aware going in that it is a shoujo anime, but the humour was on-point so I didn't care. In fact, I had high hopes that it would be the first shoujo anime to enter my top favourites. Unfortunately, it looks like it couldn't resist catering to its demographic and ended up including some shoujo tropes that I didn't like (i.e. unnecessary drama). With only one episode before it ends, I doubt it's going to climb back up to being anime of the season.
- Re:Zero Season 3 - Just like others in this community, I was about to put it on-hold and binge it later - but then I learnt that it would be going on break after the next episode anyway. I'm sure it would get good later, but for now, it's becoming a chore to watch.
- Dan Da Dan - Most likely to be my anime of the season; needs no explanation.
Do the ultra-rich consume popular media?
Not sure if "ultra-rich" is the right label, since there are probably some of them who are good people, but I'm referring to the likes of Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, etc.
I'm just wondering: do people like them watch movies or TV shows, or read books? In so much of popular media, people like them (i.e. rich, powerful, unsympathetic) are usually cast as the villain.
If they have any self-awareness and do consume popular media, surely they would know they are (edit: seen as) the bad guys?
My guess is that they simply don't consume popular media and instead wind down by doing cliche rich people activities (e.g. attend parties of only the rich, partake in expensive sports)
I tried doing a quick internet, but didn't find an answer that confirms my thoughts, so I gave up and turned to Lemmy.
