I don't know how to feel about this
  • As an Eagles fan, I'd appreciate if they don't use our name in their sniper nest. If they could call it something more Cowboys appropriate like a trash nest, or little bitch nest, that would be great.

  • Donald Trump projected to win 2024 election
  • They don't see what he's done and what he's said. The people that put him over the edge this time were targeted for being ill-informed and tempted by magic wand campaign promises like "no tax on tips" or dumb things like gold sneakers. They aren't watching informed news or doing research about his past performance. They're simply voting on vibe alone and have been heavily targeted on social media to make them think everything sucks and he's the only one who can fix everything when in fact he's the complete opposite of them.

  • I'm not worried you're worried
  • I heard a lot of commentary about the price of eggs tonight. I live in San Diego, America's most expensive city. I've seen at some major chains a dozen eggs in the $6 - $9 range. Most stores I've seen them around $4 or $5 bucks a dozen. I also purchased a dozen yesterday for $2.79, and that was through Doordash even. So like, I call bullshit. Americans are dumb and too lazy to shop around. The gas station closest my house is $5.80 according to Google just now, but I filled up last night about 5 miles away with cash for $3.99. So infuriating that lack of effort or stupidity is likely what drove Trump back into office.

  • What was the most unforgettable interaction you've ever had with a stranger?
  • I used to live in downtown Oakland, notoriously not the safest city. I was stumbling home from a night of drinking around 3am one morning, and this guy on a bike rolled up on me out of nowhere and he just goes "hey man, you scared of black people?" He was an older black man that appeared to be disheveled and possibly living on the street, and I legit just laughed and was like, no, I grew up in a city, and I live here, so no, not at all haha. And he just goes, "Alright. You have a good night." and he rode off.

Like 5 years later, I'm waiting for my bus one morning to go to work, and the exact same thing happens. Rolls up on a bike and asks me if I'm scared of black people. Again, I say no, kind of being like dude leave me alone not this again, and he replies "I know you're not. I remember you. Have a great morning." He shook my hand and rolled off, never saw him again. Just such an odd experience haha.

  • 'January 6th is going to be pretty fun’: How MAGA activists are preparing to undermine the election if Trump loses
  • I fear it won't be centralized just in Washington this time and they could try to take many state houses that simply aren't prepared as the Capital clearly will be. There was a clip of two men walking away from Jan 6 that haunts me. They were remarking on what an incredible day it was, and one of them says, "but next time we bring the guns". If 100k armed idiots people show up at the Capital looking for a 'revolution', cops aren't going to be enough. And even worse if they take to local streets looking for anybody who opposes them. I hope the fever doesn't get that high, but I'll for sure to be staying far away from any of those crazies for a while.

  • Why is Mastodon struggling to survive?
  • I made a Mastodon account during that blitz in '22. Yes, content wasn't there yet, but honestly, it was the interface for me. It's UI didn't feel simplistic enough to me as someone just getting started with it.

Lemmy may have faced a similar fate for me if it weren't for the smooth interface of Sync to be honest. I know many on here are leaps and bounds beyond my tech proficiency, but so many folks are still in the stone ages writing their passwords on post-it notes etc so to think that they'd adopt something like Mastodon over Twitter or Lemmy over Reddit seems like the bigger counterparts will always win just on sign-up flow and instant gratification.
