I think you already know people thoughts on these.
The reality is the wrote up everything they thought some conservatives might want... and took it to the extreme. It is more of a menu, than anything. Trump will do whatever is best for him, whether it is in the plan or not. He doesn't care one way or the other.
Well the reality is that democracy is a shitty form of government to. So the internet helps fight shitty forms of government. The problem is that the internet doesn't seem to help provide good alternatives. It is essentially indiscriminate on what replaces the currenty shitty form of government, even if the replacement then restricts the internets ability to fight the new shitty form....
Rubbish. The security people wouldn't have clearance to know much about what they are guarding, let alone the rest of the countries capabilities. He would know they were put on alert. That's about it. His statement about maintaining it every minute reeks of trying to make his information more valuable so he is better taken care of by whoever he escaped to. Noone would build a weapon that requires that much maintenance. And if they were doing that much maintenance they might be spit polishing the exterior for all he would know. I call BS
Honestly, it was a hellscape before, we just shifted down a level deeper.
Ah. Similar effect in reducing the net difference
If that lasr column is population, latino men are 1/7 compared to white men. So the larger difference is much smaller than it appears. And how did there get to be so many more latino women than men.
Well I doubt it would be truely individualized. Probably something more like a menu of terms that everyone else is using would quickly develop. Maybe a few numbers to customize. But mostly boilerplate. And probably requiring arbitration.
At this point it is good to see at least some people on the right are pushing back. But more interesting is that trump doesn't seem to really care. Pedo matt wouldn't have withdrawn his name if trump really wanted him in. Trump won, and now he is probably planning to golf the next four years. Odds are that while the result will still be terrible, it's better than what would have happened if he took an active role in it all.
Media outlets haven't been on our side for decades. So try to present themselves as if they are, but only because they think there is an utapped market for such a thing, and they hope to exploit it. Media is a business, it's job is to chase dollar signs.
Yeah, like in new york city you can't afford a house on a low six figure income. But in mississippi you can buy a masion. The discrepancy is insane. I guess I am lucky because I don't like big cities and can work remote.
It's the last part where we disagree. I think that pushing efforts that make people feel like they did thier part makes them complacent to pushing against industry or others. In some cases the individual effort touted is something that few people will end up doing because of how inconvenient it is. So they will feel they can't demand better of industry and others. And in the case of this leaves stuff, it is something that excuses inaction, so people will feel like they did their part so the result isn't thier fault, and thus not thier problem anymore. And of course everyone loves a post supporting inaction because it makes them feel better about themsleves for not getting around to something they thought they should do. That makes it very popular. As such it drowns out messages about the larger causes and solutions.
I think you misinterpreted what I was saying. I am saying that the majority of poloticians personal beliefs no longer mirror what they politically project. They could litterally take either side on any subject and spew it's support just as vehemently. Which side gets them the most votes is where they go.
I don't have any numbers, but we know that many anti-vax politicians and pundents actually got the vaccine and continue to do so. The same is true on both sides. Being on the right side of an issue doesn't make them a better person. They are still just someone who will support whatever gets them elected. That's the job.
I support the platform, not the person. I despise how the person makes a living. And based on how they must leave thier morals at home to be sucsessful, I am pretty sure I would despise the person to.
Yeah, the number of people who area few missed paychecks or less away from being broke according to articles I have read is alarmingly high. Even tons of people earning 6 figures. Housing and food are such a high percentage of peoples expenses these days.
Isn't $10k like one months mortgage on a house in the bay area? And just swing by vegas... plenty of people spending that kind of money. It may seem like a different kind of life, but often it is just a different location. They often live a lot like the rest of us... thier emergency fund might last 2 months instead of one, but they are still pretty close to broke if they lose thier job. When someone starts dropping $100k... that is a different life.
It is mostly relevant because of the long list of recent presidents who did. It also is clearly not a "mandate" and means at least half the US voters disagree with him. So other poloticians shouldn't just do what he says. That is mostly relevant inside the republican party, giving those that disagree more room to do so.
Saying intellectually honest makes it sound like they are better people. But it is just the platform they run on. The two parties essentially pick sides on any possibly divisive issue that gains some traction, because polarization benefits them. Covid for example, 30 years ago, both side were provax. But a vaccine mandate wouldn't happened. As soon as the whole mask thing came up, one side saw people unhappy about wearing masks as an opportunity to divide the populace. So both sides moved to the extremes that already fit thier platforms.
Far simpler than whateveryone else is saying. The best way to rally humans to your side is to give them a common enemy. So conservative politicians picked enemies that are small in number and told everyone how they are to blame for all that is wrong in the world.
The answer is simple. Propaganda. For probably thousands of years, religions have preached that hard work and sacrifice are virtues. They of course only pay off in the next life.
Yeah, it totaly woshed right over them. They are playing games with human emotions to protect and increase profits. These kind of things were the early version of the algorithms that are designed to keep you glued to content so you see more ads.
where do I find an AI image generator that will use images of real people?
I want to make a satirical poster, but the generators I tried kept putting an image that looked nothing like the person. I see so many of these I thought it was trivial to make one. And I totally support it clearly saying it was AI generated. Not trying to fool anyone, just want to make a joke. Edit: not looking to edit a photo. Just want to make a political meme.
Alternatives to congress
What alternative ways can you think of to handle making legislation and passing laws that would negate the increasingly polarized political climate that is happening in more and more countries?
What kind of motor is in an adjustable mattress base, and how does it work
I couldn't find anywhere that would tell me what kind of motor is usually used there. And I don't know enough about motors to be like... well of course it's this kind... But once I know what it is... how does it work? Like different adjustable bases move different intervals for a single push of the remote button (at least according to my wife). So that got me thinking, what controls the minimum interval of difference between two positions the motor will support? I don't hear clicks, so I don't think it is a ratchet type thing which would have a clear min interval. Yet, if you unplug it, it doesn't just go flat. So there must be some sort of passive hold mechanism of some type...
Why don't desk chairs have seat belts?
So they say that sitting too much shortens your life and all that. They also say that most of us sit incorrectly. I know I do. I constantly slide my butt forward and slouch. And I was thinking, what I need is a seat belt to keep me from sliding forward. But such a thing doesn't seem to exist. There must be some problem with them that I am missing. Since Lemmy has lots of desk jockeys, I figured I would ask here.
What is a good second career?
The wife and I are getting older. We have been working for decades at this point. But we are too young to retire, and we had kids late. But one of us could totally switch over to a lower stress second career. Ideally something with benefits, maybe even a chance to get a pension. And since we still have kids, needs to be flexible. One of our kids has autism, so lots of random doctors appointment and stuff. We both work with computers all day. What are some good options for a second career that doesn't need to have long term growth potential. We have 8 years where ideally both of us are working so we can cover each other with benefits if something happens. After that, the kids are out of high school at least. So it isn't like it would be a "short" term career/job. Just not a 30 year thing. And ideally, something that could at least partially be done at home.
Newberg School District parents call for superintendent to step down after learning of budget shortfall
Newberg has been the center of a political maelstrom over the last few years, beginning with a conservative majority on the school board banning political symbols, pointedly targeting Black Lives Matter and Pride flags.
The same school board abruptly ousted Phillips' predecessor, Superintendent Joe Morelock, in March 2022. They hired Phillips a few months later, despite the fact that he was coming off a string of controversies connected to his work in other Oregon districts.
The guy the conservative school board appointed superintendent to own the libs, turned out to suck at his job. At least the people were smart enough to vote out the conservative school board. But sounds like they were too late.
script runner framework
We have free rundeck. And it is pretty lame. But the basic problem is we want to setup permission escalation. We write the scripts that do things, and control who can run them, and how they can run them. Also keep an audit trail of who ran what. rundeck does this, but the free version is pretty terrible. And the pay version is absurdly expensive.
One example would be some specific queries on the production databases to look up information that is okay for devs to look up. And which would be part of incident response. Another is some limited and very specific kubernetes actions on the prod cluster…

Could the United States be headed for a national divorce
Could the blue states just ignore orders from the white house? Like if he orders them to round up illegal aliens? What could trump do about it?
do public companies always have to do what makes the shareholders the most money or risk being sued?
I know the board has some fiduciary duty, but can a company put some guardrails on it when they go public, like saying the environment will always come first, or employees or customers or something?
SAD light location and use for programmers?
It's been a grey winter, and looking to stay that way. I work remote, so I was thinking of getting an SAD light. But I remember from years ago when I had one (and worked in an office) that if I put it next to my monitor it gave me a headache and made my monitor hard to see. Those of you using SAD lights, where do you put them, how long do you use them per day and all that?
You know tipping has gotten out of control when your son says we have to tip Santa with money.
of course he suggested $1
Posts missing in profile
When I am in Jerboa on any device (phone, tablet, pc) and I go to my profile and click on posts... it is empty. Yet I have of course made posts. Is there something I need to do to get it to save my posts? Comments has my comments.
greatest movie turnaround
what movie has the greatest turnaround. Like all hope is lost, people are fleeing or whatever, and something happens, then everyone rallies and of course wins the day. Its in tons of movies, usually pretty cheesy. But there must be some that do it right. What are they?
scifi movies for a young teen
my daughter seems to like scifi. We watched enders game, lost in space series (the new version), arrival, I am mother, and she liked them all. Can I get some more suggestions?
what artifacts am I goaling for
