What gives you hope to keep going?
  • This is so true. MY eyes are now a commodity and I'm going to choose who gets them more wisely.

  • Michigan members of Congress react to Trump's threat of tariffs
  • It's not realistic to leave the country for me.

  • What gives you hope to keep going?
  • I think that is a lot of what perpetuates doom. Eyes = $$$$

  • What gives you hope to keep going?
  • The other night I saw the stars in the sky and thought about how little my problems actually seem.

  • What gives you hope to keep going?
  • This is what I needed to hear. Thanks! Think local, act local to help the global.

  • What gives you hope to keep going?
  • I think I just hit that wall. This thread is fucking depressing. There's happiness and hope out there, but it seems you won't find it on social media, I guess. Negativity bias seems more prevalent on Lemmy than others.

  • What gives you hope to keep going?
  • You don't enjoy ANYTHING? Like, nothing at all?

  • What gives you hope to keep going?
  • Is this social media?

  • What gives you hope to keep going?

There's so much doom on social media right now. The environment is collapsing. The economy will crash. Civil rights are ending. Democracy is dead.

What keeps you going? Why do you still get up and go do what needs to be done when the world seems to be ending around us?

Why don't we all just collectively end it all?
  • Can you answer the question? If hope is lost, why are we here still?

  • Michigan members of Congress react to Trump's threat of tariffs
  • I'm trying to get back into teaching. That's probably a mistake too.

  • Michigan members of Congress react to Trump's threat of tariffs
  • I live in MI and work for a company that imports Japanese parts for robots in manufacturing (mostly auto). My boss is a vehement Trumper who says he only cares about politics because of the economy and manufacturing. I asked him how tariffs would help a company like ours who imports products. He said that it will help because we will sell more parts, because manufacturing will increase so much.

We also sell these same parts in Mexico and Canada, so we sell them either way. I don't get the logic, I guess.

  • Trump’s tariff plan will send prices ‘through the roof’, warn US firms
  • Do you honestly think that his voters are reading anything other than memes on Facebook? They aren't reading articles.

  • Trump's phone calls with foreign leaders raise alarms
  • This is what they voted for. This is what they wanted.

  • What are some poor pieces of advice for life?
  • Use alcohol, drugs, and avoidance to solve your problems. Just get mad at yourself for not fixing the problems and go about life in misery.

  • Trump’s evasion of January 6 accountability will echo for next four years and generations to come
  • so many people are about to die in so many placed by domestic and foreign

    What does that mean?

  • If I go to Canada can I retire there and draw SS from the US? Also can I go to Canada buy a cabin or house with a plot of land and not work? Unless I just needed some walking around money?
  • It's easier for Canada to enforce these sort of requirements as they have about 12% of the population of the US. Americans are not moving to Canada in mass numbers like Mexico.

  • What do you think got way too much hate than it should've?
  • The first 60 minutes was GOD AWFUL. So much hand holding and text conversations that it turned me off to the game completely.

This will be my last post for a bit here, because I don't want to feel as if I'm taking over this community or spamming. If you read any of my blog posts, please read this one. I had a fun time writing it and investigating the happenings surrounding it.

What would you do in this situation?

I've been working at a soul-sucking job that I have to drive 2 hours a day and I don't like for 1.5 years. I do alright. I was a teacher and I want to get back into teaching because it's more purposeful and fulfilling.

My wife found out about a year ago that her father was in fact not her biological father. A few months later he died. This caused her trauma. My wife is a teacher as well, and she said she wanted to take a year off and go to therapy. I was not a fan of the idea, because we need 2 incomes to feed our 2 kids and fund her spending habits, but I agreed as long as we cut our spending and she focused on getting better. We inherited some money from her father and moved into his house and sold our old one for some money as well. I'm talking to a fiduciary to invest this money so it doesn't get spent and we have money for the future.

Last week I was offered a teaching a position. I was frustrated by the fact that I had to decline it, because we cannot afford the pay cut. If I don't get back in to it this year, my certification will lapse and I will have a hard time renewing it. I was devastated and explained to her my frustrations. I told her that taking a year off is not the norm, and that she hasn't been working on herself, she's been spending more money, adding to her hoard, and avoiding any sort of physical or emotional hardship. I told her that I gave up something that I wanted (and she wanted for me) so she could continue not working.

Next month she is flying from the midwest to Vancouver to see Taylor Swift with my oldest daughter. I told her today that it frustrates me that she is going through with it. I understand that she had a tough time and that this is a cool thing for them, but I wanted her to understand that it frustrates me that she gets to do this while I'm cutting back on things and declining a job I wanted. I told her to CONSIDER flipping the tickets for a profit of a few grand. She responded that it feels like I'm trying to ruin her good time with guilt and that she really is working on herself, but it's all internal, so I can't see it.

I just feels unfair and if I pressure her not to go, I'm going to be made into the bad guy. I'm in between a shit and a turd place.

Do you think I can fit 38mm tires on my bike?

I want a wider tire, but can't figure out if it will fit on the rim, within the fork/frame, or within the brake pads. I measured and 38mm looks like it should fit, but I figured someone else might know more than me. All the products and stats are listed on the site. > > Also: I get it, it's not the best bike/tire combo on the market. Cycling is only really a side hobby for me, so don't shame my choices. I love my bike and the price I paid for it.

Does anyone know anything about home audio recording?

I'm a guitarist/singer and I'm looking to record some acoustic stuff. I have a condenser mic, but I would need an audio interface. I'm not looking for a fancy setup, just bare bones really. Any recommendations for an open source audio workshop? What's my cheapest quality option for an audio interface?

    Thanks!
