If you're referring to the rumors of killing animals during filming, those appear to be false. Several Humane Societies even put their names on the movie. The belief might come from them using so many different cats and dogs, but that's because it took 4 years to film and they kept aging.

The address is pretty easy to find. It's a terrible spot for crowds, with no lots or sidewalks.
It's in the middle of suburbia. There are no nearby lots, and their street has no sidewalks.

Did everyone responding to you miss the FrenWorld drama at Reddit a few years back? It was thinly-veiled racism disguised as friendly comics. It was finally banned for both that and glorifying violence.
I think it's because they're quoting her use of the word. But I agree it's almost indistinguishable from scare quotes when used around a single word like that.
