We need to convince billionaires to care. They are the ones who hold all the real political power.
I disagree. People who live their entire lives being relentless bombarded by consumerist propaganda and pro-capitalist disinformation are not truly free to vote against it, nor were they given the chance. Al Gore cared more about the environment than Bush, but he was still a capitalist that supported car dependency and the military industrial complex.
Dirt and seeds are relatively expensive compared to a microphone and internet access
I'd happily be a farmer if it paid a good hourly wage.
And most of them showed up and voted for Trump. 1/3rd of adults voting for fascism is all it takes to destroy a country when 70 million people stay home and don't vote
Also, GenZ men voted for fascism more than millennial men so this comic really is backwards
Walmart sends the police after people who sleep in their cars. I know because it happened to me when I was homeless.
Russia is a capitalist country
I think the biggest problem by far is the wealth disparity: the wealthy are pouring billions into pushing right wing propaganda, think tanks, and lobbying every year. Liberalism and Social Democracy has no answer to the rich using their wealth to blast people with endless propaganda and disinformation.
I really wish there were a peaceful path forward, but I am becoming increasingly convinced that nothing will ever improve until we, the people, overthrow the billionaire class. But that will probably not happen until it is too late
Participation / selection bias. People who have autism or who struggle to fit in socially are more likely to spend more time making content than normal people.
I would like to add that having free and fair elections isn't enough to be a democracy. A democracy, by definition, is simple majority rule in which the government represents the will and interests of the people. Paid propaganda, paid lobbying, SuperPACs, the existence of a donor class, etc all betray the ideals of what democracy represents. Any government that ceases to represent the interests and will of the people ceases to be a democracy, regardless of how fair and free their elections may seem.
If we embrace survival bias, then yes. From my perspective, late stage capitalism is increasingly like a game of musical chairs where opportunities for success are steadily decreasing year after year.
Then why did Biden pledge his full support to Trump?
They'll brand the DSA and socialists like Hasan as terrorists first. Then once they have purged the country of leftist leadership and leftist organizations then they will come for left leaning groups like NPR if and only if NPR refuses to bend the knee.
Morning Joe from MSNBC has already bent the knee. More will follow once Trump makes an example out of his critics.
My theory is that Putin blames the US for destroying the Soviet Union. He blames us for forcing the USSR into a cold war it never wanted and he saw first hand how endless anti-communist propaganda turned the whole western world against the USSR.... So now he believes he is doing to the US what we did to the USSR, bombarding us with endless disinformation and propaganda to destroy our country from the inside out.
I admire your optimism, but I am more skeptical. Capitalist oligarchy has left Russia a pale, pathetic shadow of the super power that it once was, but capitalism is not even remotely close to collapsing in Russia.
They'll just completely gut the environmental regulations and eliminate all fines.
If we want to see what the future will be like for the US, than look no further than Putin's oligarchy.
What a tragedy. >I feel terrible for these people! My former roommate knew a girl in high school who died from methanol poisoning at a party after some kids found a bottle in somebody’s garage. It’s really terrible.
On a related note, I am struggling to understand why the US still denatures alcohol to intentionally make it fatal for teens. Other countries require that denatured alcohol be dyed and to have terrible bitter flavors added so that it can't be accidentally confused with a strong liquor. Hell, the Soviets even required this.
I'd love to see the tiny Japanese trucks, but they don't meet American safety standards
Which is frustrating because they are objectively many times safer overall than a 6000lb lifted pickup
If nuclear helps us phase out fossil fuels quicker than I fully support it.
