Yeah, there'll never be a situation where all of Lemmy down. I (lemmyusa.com) and other admins likely won't update to a version that'll break the site.
Yes, Reddit is way more mainstream now than ever. My grandparents talk about it.
Can't believe she jumped, never know who's suicidal...
I don't see the need for insults.
These "human rights" were given to you by the current established powers. When those powers change the definition of good and bad do so as well. That was the intended message of my original comment.
It is naive to say "we don't need to understand why they did it" when, taking your stance here, it's imperative in preventing the "enemy" from taking away your "freedoms". But I see it differently, take one of my favorite quotes: "You judge yourself based on your own intentions, and judge everyone else on their actions". Call it optimistic, but I don't believe most people intend to cause harm, but make their choices based on their experiences and understanding of the matter.
So, I feel it's ridiculous to proclaim anyone as enemy, especially withstanding their reasoning. But you do not have to agree with this.
To give you a real unbiased answer as someone who's actually used the headset, the Quest 3 is the best VR headset you'll get for the money. Pancake lenses are amazing, performance is really good, software has gotten ages better since launch. Meta throttles the chipset a lot, with QGO (an app) you can meet or be just under PC quality on most games, but the base headset is fine by itself.
As for games, there's never been a better time to hope in. But I'll be honest my Q3 is practically a beat saber machine at this point. I haven't found another game to be as enticing. Pistol whip was meh, I couldn't get into B&S or Asgards wrath, Metro Awaking isn't my type of game. It's really up to you to decide how valuable VR is.
All it takes is a couple investors and that all goes bye-bye.
Very few people have had their car purchasing decisions influenced by Musk, that's evidenced by Tesla being the top 3 best selling EVs in the U.S. in Q2. Their sales will decrease as competition increases. You could make the argument the lack of competition is what maintains their sales.
This is why they're leaning hard on FSD, it's the only thing that could realistically make them stand out once the EV market matures. We'll have to wait to see if V13 delivers (was supposed to release in October...) in order to gauge their future as a company.
What do you mean "comeback", this isn't twitter, we're having a discussion.
You make this argument and it immediately falls apart because people revert to "Well they want to do this, this, and this, so they actually are an enemy"
You see it here in these very comments. If you are different from the "normal" you will eventually be hated, regardless of whoever is in power. It is human nature. It has not changed, it will not change.
People, families, tribes, nations have risen to power and subsequently lost power. It's cyclical and will continue until we are inevitably wiped out by ourselves or the universe.
I didn't suffer? I got my email in computer lab when I was a kid. I didn't have to choose the teacher showed us Gmail. You get an android you're prompted to create a Gmail. You get an iPhone you're prompted to create an iCloud.
For your second paragraph that was the entire point of my original comment.
Objectively it's not difficult in the same way starting a video game isn't difficult. However, just because some people can learn the controls quickly, doesn't mean everyone can. See: the video game journalist failing the Cuphead tutorial.
No one using this platform is indicative of the average person.
Digital footprit
It will not. You have to teach people what federation is while also having an enticing platform. I haven't seen anyone do that yet. Like Henry Ford said, the masses will just want a faster horse.
Let's pretend like the fediverse is a car. We're asking people who've never seen a car, and are used to horses, to select the parts and put it together with no manual. But, unless there's heavy provocation people will not switch from what they're familiar with.
This was the Reddit API changes for me and many on here. Yet due to Lemmy's adolescence at the time many didn't see a good enough platform to migrate to.
I consider myself quite literate with tech, but when I tried Mastodon years ago I couldn't even figure out how to sign up. They didn't explain what a server was, what federation is, or why I was unable to login after making an account. And they still do a terrible job at it. Your average person gets confused and gives up.
If I knew anything about development I'd throw together an app that'd walk you through the sign up process. It's such an easy thing to fix.
Every platform and app I've seen does a piss poor job of explaining what federation is and how to sign up. "Wtf is mastodon.social?, Why is this one in German?, Why can't I login after signing up?" New users just get confused and give up.
They'd have to implement ads eventually anyway. Companies do have budgets, and the money to run Threads has to come from somewhere.
Make one :)
Please do not pretend climate change is any one groups responsibility.
This happened in 2005 as well, except with 3 hurricanes; Francis, Ivan, and Jeanne. I doubt climate change has gotten better since then.
I love how we just make up stuff and parade it as fact. You honestly believe there was such an increase in DA from men that it effected mortality rates. You're well past delusional at this point.
There's nothing more I want out of a phone than what I have with the P9F right now. Price should come down, but I'm using this thing until it's dead. Only other thing that could entice me is a rollable like LG was going to release here.
PlayStation to Shut Down New Game ‘Concord’ Two Weeks After Launch, Will Refund Players
PlayStation will be taking its new Firewalk-developed live services game "Concord" offline this Friday, two weeks after its Aug. 23 launch.
Hilarious, when will they learn you cannot sell a game that gamers do not want to play.
Profitable Ev charging...
I've been thinking over this the last few days, and I do not see a situation where ev charging will ever be profitable enough for businesses to install them at large. I assume most public charging is DC fast charging so I'm talking about that.
Where do you put a charger so that is receives the most amount of use? Well that's easy, wherever gas stations currently are—but that's where the problems start. How many chargers do you install, and at what charging speed?
The theoretical max amount of money you can make in an hour is the charging speed x price/kW. So for a 100kW charger at 50¢/kW you're hard capped at $50/hr. I found a 240kW DC charger on aliexpress for $44,000. Using the 50¢/kW from above it'd take 36 days to break even, assuming 24/7 usage at the theoretical maximum. With a normal usage of around 6 hours total (i'm just throwing numbers out there) that jumps to 146 days. After 10 years of operating you're looking at around $1.2 million or a 2727% return
However, the time to break even grows and the return shrinks with the amount of chargers installed. And this is without factoring in installation costs and the power companies electricity price, which could easily cut that down to a fourth. I also do not see a charger going 10 years without a single repair.
I'm just wondering if i'm missing something here.
This could've ended differently...

Anyone else actually like La Croix?
I used to hate sparking water. Why would you want a fizzy drink that tastes like the worst parts of a lemon? That was, my friend, until fate gave me a coupon for a free case of Deer Park sparkling water and in my process of drinking through it, it finally clicked. "So this is what sparkling water is?"; this was a life changing moment.
Jumping forward a few years, I've dabbled with all sorts of brands including the notorious La Croix. My first sip of the lime flavor was magical, I was hooked. This tasted like dish soap to you Bill?
And when you get to the flavor combinations (≧▽≦), oh man. Pina Fraise is fucking gorgeous. So what's everyone's general consensus on La Croix? The only flavor I dislike is coconut because it's a little strong. And some taste better room-temp rather than cold.
