Revoke my license then Sony, if you can’t then I don’t care about stupid unenforceable clauses in EULAs.
There should never be any sort of EULA needed to access software that isn’t networked. Requiring an agreement to an Acceptable Use Policy is reasonable and violation of those terms resulting in a network ban is reasonable. Otherwise software usage rights should be unlimited and you can prove I caused damage via copyright infringement or prosecute me via CFAA.
To be fair I don’t talk about Reddit/Lemmy front ends with anyone except in meta discussions as well.
I used Apollo/use Voyager as well, my experience in the early days after the API migration on the voyager community was that most people used the compact view and card view was more for iPad usage
Without seeing actual statistics, both accounts are anecdotal. But it’s my experience that I have had a lot less interaction of people who prefer new Reddit and a lot more with people who prefer old Reddit. Many Lemmy instances host old Reddit inspired front ends. I’m not aware of a single front end for Lemmy that strives to emulate new Reddit
Something I hadn’t considered to possibly be generational. When I was on Reddit, it was always old Reddit. I can’t imagine anyone using card view, I thought maybe that existed for iPads or devices with large screens.
I also don’t see appeal in instagram or TikTok like the author though as well.
I don’t necessarily get the consideration of “decision fatigue”. If you chose not to decide you still have made a choice. The choice then of allowing the app to just show you whatever can’t really be put on decision fatigue in my opinion.
My experience playing Call of Duty: United Offensive. The community was so much better than online games today. Some times if I wasn’t in to it we’d just chat via text chat. Felt like an extended lan party almost
Come to think of it, all the USB C cables I have are from phone and device chargers so I just took it for granted. Good to know. Thanks for sharing some knowledge with me
It’s not exactly decentralized if you use the official relay only, just distributed which is a different concept entirely
Do not all USB C cables have the capability to do Power Delivery? I thought it was up to the port you plugged it in to support it?
That changes everything. That’s dirty pool, shouldn’t have been allowed by SEC/Fed or who ever their regulator was
This was a team expected to contend for the CFP we just went 0-5 in 1 possession games this season
Woo suck it buff fans. We ruined our season 2 months ago now we are ruin the rest of the conference’s
The FDIC coverage wouldn’t be what they would be worried about. They wouldn’t have their accounts much above FDIC limits.
My point is that the FDIC serves to prevent a banking crisis that would limit their ability to liquidate their assets and realize their wealth
I realize that my comment does sound really harsh. And there definitely should be criminal penalties for falsely advertising that they were an FDIC covered institution and a best effort to return the funds
But (again I am being harsh again) there is risk in putting your money in a faceless app instead of a brick and mortar institution and there needs to be some personal accountability for making bad decisions
The platform splits literally don’t matter.
-
That’s the point of open source, being able to make your own fork.
-
The backend is AP not Lemmy, Kbin, mastodon, or piefed
The fragmented ecosystem of ideas doesn’t really exist except in a few servers such as beehaw, lemmygrad, and hexbear. Beehaw and hexbear don’t even care about federation.
They are against things like the CFPB but they aren’t getting rid of the FDIC which is the good faith backing of the US banking system. The 1% isn’t so liquid that they wouldn’t lose huge amounts of money with a full scale banking crisis
Isn’t that what they signed up for when they put their money in a nonFDIC insured account?
It could start using DNS over HTTPS if it had enough failed requests. Those wouldn’t be able to be redirected
>Live view of me trying to make a gif that doesn’t have the frame rate nerfed
I was disappointed in V’s map vs San Andreas’. It is way bigger but feels so much more empty. Would have liked if we got a single player DLC that added some references to grove street, CJ and added Los Venturas and San Fierro to the map
That definitely makes it accessible to newcomers. But costs are going to gatekeep smaller communities from hosting relays as the network scales. There are plenty of obscure conversations happening on the far corners of the network that don’t concern the majority, requiring a full network mirror of this activity just increases cost for minimal perceived benefit.
There does need to be some level of seeding, I think the big push for getting starter packs and the like into Mastodon is an example of that need. At the same time, it’s hard to justify spending the money on extra storage and computer just so I can see posts on furry bluesky or some other niche but highly active community.
NFL Preseason Week 1
We already had the hall of fame game where we saw Brett Rypien and Collin Johnson ball out. Now we have the full week 1 slate starting tonight.
Some games of interest for me-
Panthers - Patriots to see how Maye does and how their WR room shakes out.
Texans - Steelers to see how Fields does and whether he is a stash to see if he can beat out Russ sooner rather than later
What games are you interested in watching this week. About a month left until Week 1 is here!

Lemmy user succinctly explains why Prom became such a prominent US teen tradition
I just don’t get it… Why is that important, especially for kids now, that feel like they need to do a YouTube video asking for a date or doing some meme stuff. Some teens even hire the hottest celebrity or ask them to appear in their prom? This is so bizarre for me, all that just for a frivolous nig...
A really good explanation that I felt deserved to be highlighted.

Afterplay.io is a web-based retro gaming emulator with support for SNES, GB, GBC and GBA (Premium includes support for even more consoles including N64, PS1, and DS).
The latest update just added retroacheivements support. As far as I know, it’s the only emulator that supports them on iOS that doesn’t require sideloading.
Best iOS for creating gifs from mp4s/videos from camera roll?
I’m looking for a recommendation for making gifs on iOS. Preferably one that lets you add text and with the option to remove the watermark with a one time purchase instead of a subscription.
Does this community have any advice? I tried a bunch on the App Store but there’s literally dozens and most of them either don’t let you add text or have like a $20 a minute subscription or obnoxious ads with no option to remove
NFL DRAFT MEGATHREAD
The draft starts tonight. Some pretty good WRs and QBs in this draft and trades to be made that will shake up things in fantasy for sure

Google is killing Retro Dodo and Other Independent Sites
It honestly breaks my heart to write this article, but I want to be as transparent as possible with our readers because you are the ones that have quite literally…View Post
I know that the source is more focused on retro gaming as a topic but the topic of this post is Google and its pagerank algorithm which is more appropriate for this community.
We’ve all noticed the enshittification of Google Search over the last few months, but it’s still hard to hear how it is affecting content creators and putting them out of business so we can see 20 AI generated spam pages about whatever our query is.
Stefon Diggs to the Texans
The Stefon Diggs era is over in Buffalo, as the receiver is headed to Houston in exchange for draft picks.

Opening Day!
Royals and Twins. Currently top of the 8th down 2-1, Royals need to find their bats if we are going to pull of a W on opening day
Another Zelda game down!
I conquered Koholint island finally! I really enjoyed my time playing Link’s Awakening. I can’t believe they fit a whole Legend of Zelda game on Gameboy! I really enjoyed it
I ended up getting stuck trying to get the bird key. I could not figure out how to get the flying rooster. I tried bombing the weather cock, lifting the weather cock, pulling, using the hook shot, using the magic rod, digging every tile in mabe village, getting the boomerang, giving back the boomerang, tried every key item I could think of. I ended up beating level 8 before level 7. I even made this map of the entire game in google sheets to try to figure it out.
Tap for spoiler
Turns out you can just push the statue
Oh well, I don’t count it as time waste. If anything else it was a great excuse to keep playing. I’ve never played a 3D Zelda before so I am looking forward to OoT
How I hosted my blog on Google Sites
I've always been something of a tinkerer. In high school and college, it was messing around with the game files of Call of Duty and Call of Duty: United Offensive to create multiplayer mods for myself and my friends. This might sound hard to believe, but in the late 00s and early 10s; Stack
I hope a little self promotion is ok. Thanks to all of your help a few weeks ago, I was able to get an RSS feed set up for my blog. For reasons I still don't fully understand, a year and a half ago, when I moved my personal website from github and Azure App Services to Google Sites; I decided to just hack Google Sites into a blog rather than do the logical thing and start a blog on Wordpress or Blogger.
As I was documenting the process of hosting a feed using Google Drive and automating it with Google Apps Script, I decided to turn it into a full blog post on the journey I took to get things working.
If you do have some morbid curiosity on the actual steps to take to host, automate, and update RSS using Google Apps, I do have a full guide with instructions but can't say I recommend doing things this way to anyone but the truly delusional.
The whole post is about a 20 minute read. Despite having started my blog 18 months ago, this is only my 11th post, I'm still kind of new. I'd appreciate feedback for anyone that would be willing to offer it.

What's the deal with "Scaled" sorting?
Lemmy.world finally updated to v19 and I see that I have the option to do scaled sort. Typically I sort by “Top 6 hour”, “Top 12 hours”, and then “Active”.
None of these options are really like the old “Hot” sort on Reddit. So how does the scaled sort work? Is anyone who has been on v19 a while using it much?
How to set up RSS for my blog?
I've never dealt with RSS before on a personal level. I've pretty much always used social media to discover blog posts. I'm wanting to set up RSS for my personal blog but since I have no experience, looking for some guidance for best practices. I'm currently setting up a script to automatically update the xml when I publish new posts.
Am I supposed to include the entire post in the description field? Or just a summary? How do I handle the markup and formatting of the post?
Am I supposed to delete items from the feed or do I just keep appending items to the bottom of it?
Its it good practice to include a thumbnail image or anything with the item in the feed? How is that possible.
How do I distribute the feed beyond adding a button on my site?
Thank you in advance to anyone for their advice.
Apple releases new "Apple Sports" app
Apple today announced "Apple Sports," a new free app that provides real-time statistics, scores, and more. Apple Sports features a...
The app is available in the US now. It links to appropriate Apple News articles, Streaming services, has scoreboards and more.
Makes me curious if we see Apple lean more into live sports for their Apple TV+ packages, especially with the NBA contract coming up to match their current MLS and MLB offerings
