Tesla releases API pricing, dev says would cost $60 million per year to run his 3rd-party app
  • On the one hand, sure. On the other hand, if you're saying you bought from brand A, not B, specifically because the big boss of B is a shithead, I feel like it's valid to point out the ways the big boss of A is shit too.

Since everyone is shit, I dunno, buy used, I guess.

  • I may have crashed rule.video
  • Yeah, I assume. That process of uploading something, seeing that it's borked, and then having the app stop working kinda gave me an 'Oh shit, did I break it?' moment, though.

    Edit: Also - there's a discord?

  • BMW lobbies against non-car based infrastructure and car industry regulation here in Germany. Biggest shareholder is the Quandt family, who are descendant from literal Nazis, and now use part of their billions to fund the conservatives (at least they aren't giving it to the far-right. Yet.)

So yeah, fuck Elon, but fuck BMW too.

  • I may have crashed rule.video

Was trying out what video formats worked. One video uploaded successfully, but didn't play. Then the app got kinda laggy, then it crashed.

Probably completely unrelated, the app is pretty new, after all. But I kinda feel like it's my fault.

  • "Bitch", I assume. Fits the context, and I think it's on lemmy.ml's forbidden word list.

  • The funny thing is, I actually nuked the old Windows SSD I had kept around for emergencies and put OpenBSD on it, to see how daily-drivable it is for me, like 5 hours before I saw this comic.

  • I just watched the wrong version of Drive (2011), and didn't realize until the last 10 minutes. Any similar stories?
  • I'm waiting for David to show up in most media I watch. He tends to refuse, though.

  • Rule
  • I think the main difference may be that SMS haven't been the default in my country practically since Smartphones came out.

With every friend, I usually also know whether they're on Threema, Signal, or Discord (Sigh). Those that remain are on WhatsApp.

  • Percentage of Each State Taken Up by Corn Fields
  • Imaginary corn. Like John Peters, you know, the farmer, grows.

  • The last thing I ever want to do is 'Learn more' or have you 'Remind Me Later': Microsoft is pushing fullscreen ads for Windows 11 laptops to people still using Windows 10
  • I personally pretty much stopped using Word Editors, and wouldn't use a proprietary one if I did, but I recognise they're still pretty important for the majority of people.

I worked with a company that used O365 last year. Was kinda underwhelmed. Desktop Apps still don't really work well with simultaneous editing of a document, Web Apps don't have all the features of the desktop versions (didn't matter that much in Word, but was annoying in Excel).

I think that the online collaboration implementation of Google's Suite is still a lot more seamless. O365 Desktop and Web stuff feels like a weird attempt to mix two separate products.

For most use cases I've seen, you could probably give the user any modern office suite, whether it be proprietary or open source, and they wouldn't mind too much.

Independent of all privacy concerns, I personally just don't like Edge's UX, but I recognise that it's a serviceable Browser.

  • Rule
  • Never got why people didn't like it. It made SMS feel unduly secure, and having different messenger apps for different protocols doesn't really bother me.

  • Things you need to tell your kids
  • Experienced that recently. Every part of the backup was fine, except for the one with all the 2fa codes. Fun times.

  • What do you like to do during a power outage?
  • Dunno, haven't had one in many years. Don't think I had one longer than a few minutes ... ever. Guess I'll find out if it ever comes to that.

  • Meta Opens Its AI Models for the (U.S.) Military
  • Gave me flashbacks about receiving emails from them about connecting to friends of mine on their platform long before I ever interacted with any of said platforms in any way.

  • Software: Then vs Now
  • With a properly packaged python app, you shouldn't even notice you're running a python app. But yeah, for some reason there's a lot of them that ... aren't.

  • Fun cat, sure, but tf is that Gucci/star-of-David flooring.

  • closeted programmer rule
  • Find out, try it.

  • Amazon delivery vans were parked in bike lanes all over Cambridge today.
  • Delivery trucks, full stop, around here. Though some stop on the street instead, which I prefer, but car drivers usually don't.

In the end, I find it hard to be angry at overworked, underpaid people, who have to work around infrastructure that clearly hasn't been planned with their job in mind.

At least UPS is switching to large bike-like vehicles around here. Hope that trend continues.
