Chrome’s New War: Killing Ad Blockers
  • yes, but ublock gets its blocklists from an external address, which cannot be done with manifest v3. and updating the extension is something that can take weeks until approved, while google could just outmaneuver ublock.

  • The Prisoner's Trolley Problemma
  • for the longest time, i did know that game theory did not have anything to do with “games” and that it is somehow connected to the prisoners dilemma, but the concept as such wasn’t very clear to me. If you are like my former me, take 30 minutes out of your day and visit https://ncase.me/trust/ to learn and play around with game theory; it’s a great webpage and it’s pretty good fun all around.

  • Ugly car rule
  • The rental car agencys in Austria and Germany had a huge amount of those. They didn't sell well because of the optics, but if you needed a replacement car because yours broke down, they were awesome and always in stock.

  • Windows VS Linux (part 2)
  • Tbh, with stuff like Winget and the respective GUI apps the process for installing or upgrading software is pretty much the same nowadays.

  • Russia ‘fires intercontinental ballistic missile’ at Ukraine for first time
  • I just hope that Trump's miserable health gets the better of him before he gets the chance to backstab the whole of the western world. As shitty as Vance may be, he comes across as much less in love with Putin than Trumpler.

  • I'm running Nobara, so the basics like wine, Nvidia drivers ... are already set up OOTB. There are multiple ways, but i like the way Lutris does it:

    • Click on "Add a game"
    • Select "Install Windows Game from an executable"
    • give it a name, if you use the name identifier as it is used on lutris.net you get the box art automatically
    • click through, select install/prefix directory, select setup.exe file
    • install as normal, install on the c: drive (only thing to note is if the game is using stuff like .net or vc runtimes then don't install them and just remember which ones you will need)
    • If runtimes are needed: run "winetricks" to add those, if you want to install patches: use "run exe inside wine prefix" (both are in the menu next to the Windows-logo Button)
    • Play Game

Heroic Launcher's installation is a bit more streamlined, but i found Lutris can do more stuff - i don't know if i would have managed to mod my (owned) Battletech installation (BTA3062) so easily with Heroic. (involved setting a bunch of Envvars and dll overrides)

  • If any of those who pirate PC games are reading here: for now all my pillaged goods are working fine on Steam Deck and on Desktop Linux.

  • What's your automatic vacuum's name?
  • Mine is named Igor, like Dr. Frankensteins minion :-)

  • It's a cruel system
  • In my experience it's often simply expected by companys that the worker just knows this stuff because many GenX/Millenials just know their ways around that, but GenZ/Alpha are in general more knowledgeable about the functions of their smartphones than any desktop applications. It will take some time until HR departments start screening their applicants for stuff like Office knowledge (again - they used to 2 generations ago)

  • Is the Wii good?
  • I just remember having a blast playing Resident Evil 4 with the Wiimote for targeting.

  • What are your favorite 1000+ hour games?
  • Grim Dawn (currently playing Community Season 7! check it out @ https://grimdawnleague.com/, Dead Cells and Terraria (and most of that time unmodded - i just love building cozy or not so cozy homes).

  • As i am currently cursed with a cold myself...

    I HATE COLDS

i would rather have a broken leg or something, everytime some stupid virus finds my its way into my nose i am a fucking wreck for 4 days, while my wife just shrugs off the same goddamn virus with ease.

She's always laughing at me when i have a cold, because it really fucks me up beyond all recognition. she simply cannot understand why a bit of a cold has such a profound effect on men.

    neither can i.

  • Why do people on reddit seem to hate Lemmy/Mbin/other federated link aggregators?
  • just wanted to drop that for the selfhosters there is https://fediseer.com/ which provides an API (which makes getting a crowdsourced and up to date whitelist easy)

  • rate_limit_error / unable to retrieve site / "there doesn't seem to be anything here" using mlmym frontend

Hi, i didn't find anything using the search, so i just wanted to know if any issues are known causing those error messages, which need a few reloads to resolve; additionally, voting on an post often takes 2, sometimes 5 or more tries.

    i already tried:

    • logged in/out
    • with my VPN(Mullvad, on by default) and without
    • Firefox / Vivaldi / Edge
    • wired / wireless

and before i get into the weeds with the abyssmal support of my ISP i wanted to know if any of you have encountered the same issues.
