B.C. Chiefs 'alarmed' by federal and B.C. government's role in First Nations dispute
  • The Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs says the federal and provincial governments are wrongfully choosing sides in a land title dispute between two First Nations.

The union says it's "alarmed" that B.C. and Canada are supporting the Nisga'a Nation's bid to be added as a defendant in a lawsuit filed by the Gitanyow Nation seeking Aboriginal rights and title over a 6,200-square-kilometre area in northwestern B.C.

I was wondering when this would start.

The nation where I grew up forcefully took control of the area from another nation shortly before reserves and land claims became a thing. They happily signed treaties because most of the land they ceded had never belonged to them/been in their care. And being slavers, they understood more about the European concept of property ownership than the other nations in the area.

One day, I expect the other nations are going to want their land back, treaty or no treaty.

  • What companies so often fail to remember is that they are a fiction that only exists in the real world because of government policies and legislation.

And that means that a company has to behave how the government wants; any people who disagree are free to not incorporate.

This does mean that the loophole is to get individuals to make the greenwashing claims instead of the corporations— but then they have no legal protections against personal lawsuits based on how they lie and mislead.

About time the corporations have to deal with their responsibilities and not just their rights.

  • My brothers Chuwi laptop had major problems. Now he got a wal-mart gift card for the price he paid for the Chuwi. He is eyeing an HP laptop with 256gb ssd. Is that the same as a regular harddrive?
  • Interestingly, my SSDs tend to fail due to reaching their maximum writes (takes roughly 15 years).

My HDDs fail due to shock or overheating. Tend to last roughly 9 years.

  • Trump’s Gorka pick met with outrage: he’s ‘as dangerous as he is unqualified’
  • Gorka has a history of inflammatory rhetoric, ties to far-right groups, and legal troubles….

This seems like requirements to be part of this administration? Not seeing a problem here other than that he’ll produce more infighting, which at this point is a benefit.

  • This is the 2019 data breach of LifeLabs; no idea why the article waits until after the lede to name them.

  • We really need to stop calling these out by their self-selected names. It gives them more notoriety than they deserve.

Just call them “Extortion scumware 387A” etc. and over time we can group them in groups such as “scumware family 97”.

Enough to track them for blue team defenses, especially when combined with MITRE TTPs.

  • Trump Plans Tariffs on Canada, China and Mexico That Could Cripple Trade
  • Canada and Mexico really have to renegotiate their own trade deal. Of course, that’s assuming PP doesn’t become PM of Canada, because he’s already insulted Mexico multiple times while just trying to position himself for the role.

  • Ford says Trump's tariff threat 'like a family member stabbing you in the heart'
  • Said family member also stabbed everyone for four years eight years ago, all the while insisting that it was someone else’s fault.

  • ??? I thought the plan was to PHASE OUT natural gas appliances in new builds?

  • Since the government can theoretically access the location of everyone's phone, wouldn't it be unsafe for an undocumented immigrant to have a phone?
  • The big thing is whether people are behaving in a manner that brings them to the attention of the government.

It’s not like you have to give your SSN to a carrier to get a phone; the government needs a reason to be tracking you.

Now, they very much could put in a warrant for all phones crossing the border at unusual times/locations. But someone who snuck in with family and is working cash-only jobs to get by is unlikely to get tagged by the government unless they’re going somewhere or doing something the government is already watching.

  • Is there any proof behind the idea that "reddit is filled with bots"?
  • I have to admit; I suspect that some of the Reddit bots are calling from inside the company.

  • Is there any proof behind the idea that "reddit is filled with bots"?
  • I never tossed my Reddit account when I left, so I still get notified of replies to my posts and comments; I’d say there’s a third type of bot - an “engagement bot” that takes high karma comments on old posts and replies to them in a manner that adds nothing but could trigger the original commenter to reply.

At first I thought it was actual people, but it’s always young accounts with high post volumes, all the same type of post that nobody who had actually read the original thread would have written. And the accounts seem to target high karma comments, and aren’t limited to any particular subreddit.

  • "They already have your data"
  • Unconvincing to whom? That campaign did an amazing job of equating copyright to property ownership for an entire generation.

It’s not accurate, but I think we’ve seen that it can be very convincing for most people.

  • Funny thing… the FBI is “weaponized” against people who have dodgy backgrounds. I can see how that could present issues for the modern Republican party.

That said… I’ve had that check done. It took about 4 months. Obviously, I’m not as high a priority as the US executive team, but Trump is in a situation where he needs to get everyone vetted by mid-December. That’s better than what he did last time around, where he didn’t even begin most of the vetting for appointments until after inauguration.
