This is a different kind of sad.
I son't think it affects the cap hit. I just wanted Haslem to have to foot the entire bill himself for this debacle.
My only regret is that insurance will pick up the tab and it's not coming out of Haslem's pocket.
Some people are fans of the Philadelphia Eagles. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the Philadelphia Eagles. This 2024 Defector NFL team preview is for those in the latter group. Read all the previews so far here. Your team: Your 2023 record: 11-6, which is so, so misleading. Yes, the Eagles...

Everyone hated this team. The fans hated them. The analytics hated them. The betting public hated them. Best of all (for me), they all hated one another. And they still do, thanks to this fella!
Your coach: Nick Sirianni.
What did you think of his appearance?
The board will pay over $15,000 to resolve the suit. That includes $14,845 in attorneys’ fees and costs to FFRF and cooperating counsel. The board will also pay one dollar for nominal damages to The Satanic Temple and $196.71 for various fees previously paid by the Temple in connection with rental reservations that had not yet been refunded.
Further, the Shelby County Board of Education has agreed not to discriminate against the organization with regard to its requests to rent and use school board property at Chimneyrock Elementary School; the Temple will be subject to the same rules and requirements as other nonprofit organizations seeking to rent or use the school’s facilities. In addition, the school board’s administration has promised not to hold any press conference with regard to the Temple’s lawful rental or use of school property.
Interesting. I think there's at least two precedents that intersect the sporting world, with Michael [B.] Jordan and Stephen [A.] Smith.
I thought I remember reading that (at least in those cases) that it was because of SAG rules that two members can't use the same "professional" name.
The mayor of Marseille has told Olympique de Marseille not to sign Manchester United's Mason Greenwood, after sources told ESPN the clubs have reached an agreement over a permanent transfer for the 22-year-old.
"Greenwood's behaviour is unspeakable, unacceptable," Marseille Mayor Benoit Payan told French radio station RMC on Tuesday. "Hitting his wife ... I saw images that deeply shocked me. Massacring his wife in this way is unbecoming of a man and he cannot have his place on this team.
"The values of OM and Marseille are anything but that in fact. It's a shame. I will ask \[Marseille president] Pablo Longoria not to recruit Greenwood. I don't want my club to be covered with the shame of someone who hits his wife."
Is there a place where we can see total team grades, or is it just broken down by category?
On the NFLPA site, you have to drill into each team for some stupid reason.
This page has all the teams listed in order.
My favorite part was how Lurie saw last year's shortcomings and addressed them.
(NFLPA) Player Team Report Cards 2024
>One of our core jobs as a union is to improve the overall working conditions for our players, which includes the daily experience of players at the team facilities away from the lights and cameras.
>1,706 of our players provided information to share with one another about their current club, to not only help them make important career decisions, but also help raise standards across the league.
>Our goals were to highlight positive clubs, identify areas that could use improvement, and highlight best practices and standards. To learn more about the background of this initiative, read a note from President JC Tretter here.
I'd be A-OK with more Oglaf -- thanks for posting this!
Folks should be aware that it can run NSFW at times.

But perhaps the wildest example of this trend is Baby’s Day Out, the 1994 comedy in which Joe Mantegna tries to kidnap an infant, with near-fatal results.

That's because the US enacted a law called the Wolf Amendment in 2011, which prevents NASA from using government funds to cooperate directly with China.
New York Red Bulls withdrew its teams from a youth tournament earlier this year. Now veteran players are speaking to them about their own experiences
A team meeting with teenage soccer players isn’t normally something to make news but this particular event, held in 200-plus capacity event space at Red Bull Arena with every player from the club’s top under-12 to under-17 teams, was a little different.
What's with 7942 being lit up like the North Star?
Only thing I can think of is that The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was published in 1979.
States can establish religions. Federal government can't.
Over the last 150 years, the Supreme Court has pretty consistently found that the Bill of Rights applies to state as well as federal government: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incorporation_of_the_Bill_of_Rights
See especially https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Everson_v._Board_of_Education:
Everson v. Board of Education ... was a landmark decision of the United States Supreme Court that applied the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to state law.

Former Giants RB Saquon Barkley reached an agreement with the Eagles on a three-year, $37.75 million contract that could be worth up to $46.75M and includes $26M fully guaranteed at signing, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Barkley now beats the franchise tag number and has a maximum average-per-year salary of $15.833 million, which would be second highest for a running back in NFL history.
Six-time Pro Bowl Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox announced Sunday he is retiring.
"I fulfilled a lifelong dream by making it to the NFL. But what I didn't know at the time was how much of an honor and privilege it would be to represent the city of Philadelphia and the Eagles organization for the next 12 seasons," Cox wrote in a statement posted to Instagram on Sunday.
Automating anything blindly carries the risk of unending buckets of water or a universe of paperclips.
Nutty -- I was just chewing on that similarity myself.
That's just "El Reg's" style; they've been that way for years. Don't let their pseudoinformality fool you, though, they know their stuff.
You Thought You’d Seen The Last Of Carson Wentz. You Were Tragically Mistaken
When we last saw professional North Dakotan Carson Wentz, he was putting the Washington Commanders on his freckled back and carrying them directly into the septic tank. The Comms released Wentz in February, after which he languished on the market for nine months. Given that Wentz had run himself out...

For about 20 minutes there, Monday's Tottenham-Chelsea clash looked like it might be a special one. Tottenham bounded out of the gate harnessing all the momentum the team has built up during what has been probably the Premier League's most impressive start to the season. Though Chelsea couldn't contain Spurs' powerful attacks, the Blues were able to bomb forward in the other direction with their own fleet of speedsters. Mix all of that with the White Hart Lane (sic) crowd's rocking energy, and it made for a positively electric atmosphere right from the opening whistle.
BetterBlends promised to invest in the city’s beleaguered downtown but closed its doors in under two months
“While the failure of San Francisco’s generative AI blockchain-powered autonomous 5G smoothie bot may be splashy, in no way is it a bellwether for downtown."
House Republicans drop Jim Jordan as their nominee for speaker, falling back to square one
Republicans have dropped Jim Jordan as their nominee for House speaker in a private meeting. This comes after Jordan failed Friday in a third try for the speaker's gavel.
Republicans dropped Rep. Jim Jordan on Friday as their nominee for House speaker, making the decision during a closed-door session after the hard-edged ally of Donald Trump failed badly on a third ballot for the gavel.
The blocked-House impasse deepening, Republicans have no realistic or workable plan to unite the fractured GOP majority, elect a new speaker and return to the work of Congress that has been languishing since hard-liners ousted Kevin McCarthy at the start of the month.
Britain Covey has won me over
I was excited to see Devon Allen return kicks on Monday as we haven’t had a thrilling returner since Brian Mitchell (2000-02). Sure, DeSean Jackson and Brian Westbrook had huge punt returns for TDs...
>I’m not asking for a touchdown on every return but I am looking for some excitement. I’m looking for someone who can change games for us! Enter Devon Allen, a world class sprinter who broke a huge return in preseason. Sure, it’s rare to have an actual kickoff return these days but if he did well last night as the kick returner, maybe he could take over punt return duties and we’d have our guy. There was only one problem with my plan…Britain f***in’ Covey.
‘See the sun’: Postecoglou vows to go on attack in first north London derby
Tottenham’s Australian manager won’t compromise his values against Arsenal in a contest that promises to be a cracker
>“This is the type of experience I want the guys to have and for us to have as a group to help us grow,” [Postecoglou] said. “You don’t grow by being in the shade; you need to stick your head up and see the sun.”

Feature Request: Tie app's "primary color" to logged-in account
This would be a good way to subtly "remind" the user which account they're currently using/logged in as.
This would basically involve either (a) moving the "primary color" widget from the "appearance" section to the "account detail" page; or (b) making the "primary color" widget into a sub-section of its own, and where each account is listed.
