How popular sampled music was made
  • That's really neat!

At 28:23 somebody forgot to enter the year of the P. Diddy sample. It just says "(year)". Lol fuck P. Diddy.

  • Answer to 4B movement.
  • This is a better fit for !politicalhumor@lemmy.world. I'm going to remove this one due to the community "no politics" rule.

  • Hyuck hyuck hyuck!

    I regret nothing.

    Owl of the Year Bracket
  • Go team Burrowing Owl! They had a good showing last year. This year it's time to go all the way!

  • Who's the worst president the US has ever had?
  • Ah, gotcha. I misunderstood.

  • A Machine for Making Rifle Stocks - The Blanchard Lathe (1820s)
  • I immediately recognized that top pic from the Springfield Armory museum. It's definitely worth a visit for anyone passing through central Massachusetts.

  • Who's the worst president the US has ever had?
  • Andrew Jackson was also a bastard, especially for his treatment of natives. But I meant Johnson.

  • Who's the worst president the US has ever had?
  • It is complicated because the rules are different in each state. Also, Trump was convicted in New York state but he resides and votes in Florida.

For out-of-state convictions, Florida defers to the other state's rules. New York would allow Trump to vote if he resided there because he is not currently in prison, so Trump can vote in Florida legally.

  • Not a weapons expert, but I imagine a 2000 lb guided bomb could fuck up a building pretty well. The tool ignored the whole "while minimizing collateral damage" part, though.

  • Who's the worst president the US has ever had?
  • While W. sucked in many ways, there is no way he is the worst. Off the top of my head I can easily think of four better contenders: Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan (both guilty of pro-slavery fuckery before the Civil War), Andrew Johnson (fought to let the Confederates off the hook after the war and opposed the 14th amendment), and Donald Trump (first president to be impeached twice, first to be convicted of a felony, and may be remembered by future historians as the spark that ignites the next Civil War).

  • Essential gear for night riding?
  • Go big on reflective clothing. Rather than having small reflective patches on your clothes or bike, you can get jackets where the whole garment is made of reflective fabric. When a car's headlights hit you that jacket will light up like the sun.

    Ortlieb's high-vis panniers are similar.

  • How can we teach the younger generation What is right or wrong if there are no consequences anymore?
  • Seems like the world has moved away from that

Assuming that the world was once just, and recently changed to become unjust, is completely flawed. History provides endless examples of people with power and money doing horrible things and facing little or no consequences.

  • Why is everyone vehemently against easier lives?
  • Oh, I completely get it. It's a battle of delayed gratification versus instant gratification. I can take care of business now and have stress-free fun later, or I can have fun now and let future-me deal with the consequences.

  • Utrecht Caravaggism
  • The composition and lighting sure draw the eye to certain... features.

  • Space burial
  • The first space burial occurred in 1992 when the NASA Space Shuttle Columbia (mission STS-52) carried a sample of Gene Roddenberry's cremated remains into space and returned them to Earth.

    Excellent choice.

  • Why is everyone vehemently against easier lives?
  • Smooth, predictable operation requires forethought, planning, and willingness to stick to a process. It's not nearly as fun as living in the moment and improvising.

  • Thank you, kind stranger!

Midnight voting delivered the first results in the 2024 US election

Dixville Notch, NH has returned the first results in the 2024 US election. The town voted at midnight and only six ballots were cast, so tallying the results didn't take long. In the presidential race the results were evenly split, with 3 votes each for Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

    Are webcams still a thing?

The recent post in the Wikipedia community about the Trojan Room coffee pot got me thinking: are there any interesting webcams still running on the web? If so, do you have any favorites?

Aside from my local ski area I didn't think I could name a single webcam still running.

Update to sh.itjust.works announcement regarding the recent spam wave

This is an update to a previous post: https://sh.itjust.works/post/26389783

The spam wave has slowed down significantly, so we have unblocked almost all of the Misskey and Mastodon instances that were being used to relay the spam posts. Six instances are going to stay on our block list for now:

    • kitsui.life
    • lawsocial.org
    • m.corduba.tech
    • puls.social
    • seda.social
    • startrekshitposting.com

It is interesting to note that these six instances are also considered abandoned by IFTAS, and have been added to the IFTAS DNI list. https://mastodon.iftas.org/@sw_isac/113317470469259706

Since we're adjusting our instance blocks, we have taken this opportunity to update the sh.itjust.works Censures list in Fediseer to match our current block list. https://gui.fediseer.com/instances/detail/sh.itjust.works

That is all. Have a good day, everyone!

Edit: transforthe.win is also now on our block list. Spam posts are still coming from that instance.
