If you are an American, how are you preparing for the upcoming tariffs and possible trade war?
  • So sad for businesses... The only way this stops is if they are irreparably hurt and realize that they caused it by voting him in.

  • What's the deal with English muffins and why do the English like them so much?
  • It actually comes from WW1 where American soldiers thought that French speaking Belgians were French.

  • Life expectancy
  • Turns out it is all bullshit anyway. The Mediterranean and Japanese diet fads were based off reported life expectancy figures. It turns out that the longer life expectancy is due to poor government records and widespread pension fraud in these areas. A Nobel prize was awarded for uncovering these issues. A number of other studies that purported that olive oil was key to a healthy heart were later retracted for bad science.

  • There are way more nitrosamines in a thin slice of cured meat than any drug had before the regulations were put in place.

  • What is your horrible Food Poisoning story?
  • It doesn't matter how fancy the place is. Oysters are filter feeders and clean up the water ways of anything and everything. All it takes is a boat to flush its toilet somewhere near the oyster field and the whole lot will be contaminated.

  • Using AI generated code will make you a bad programmer.
  • That doesn't apply to all engineering. In ChE, it'll literally blow up later...

  • Using AI generated code will make you a bad programmer.
  • The issue with engineering is that if you don't solve it efficiently and correctly enough, it'll blow up later.

  • Do you think that the "Boeing debacle" will change what is taught in MBA programs ?
  • It's a natural thing that occurs when your pay is based on stocks that respond heavily to quarterly results. Stay in for 2 - 3 years, drive stock prices up, get out, and leave the mess for the next leadership team.

  • These are the kind of social situations I have nightmares about
  • Could have simply been looking after an elderly parent.

  • Maybe we can send Trump to North Korea for a long term visit. They could live in the palace together.

  • I wonder how many US babies have been named Donald in the last few years and may live to regret it.
  • Yankee is a nickname for all Americans in the rest of the world.

  • What's your list of banned brands?
  • Streaming services didn't exist when this court case happened. Many artists were already suing Napster, but weren't famous enough to get publicity. Someone released an unfinished edit of "I disappear" which is what triggered Metallica to get involved. Dr Dre also jumped into the suit but I've never heard anyone talk about boycotting his music or the music he produced.

  • What's your list of banned brands?
  • As greedy as you think they might have been, without them, a lot of smaller bands would have just washed up. People work really hard to make music, shouldn't they get paid for it?

  • Helldivers CEO speaking to PlayStation partners and Valve to undo de-listing of countries.
  • Sounds like it was poorly phrased and they meant dealing with the repercussions of account linking took a massive effort.

  • The US Army is pushing adoption of Agile (2024)
  • This will ultimately lead to world peace as every army is in meetings all day.

  • I need to replace milk in my coffee and I need ideas
  • Agreed. I love one particular brand and find a lot of others have cardboard undertones.

    Lemmy.world Themes

Would it be possible to implement a custom theme for Lemmy.world? There is a ton of wasted screen space and I prefer something a little more compact. I wouldn't mind creating a new css file, but I don't want to waste my time if it wouldn't be implemented.
