What absolutely astonishes me is that the entirety of the country has complete amnesia of the years 2017-2021, as if we're not about to relive that shitty period x10.
The next 4 years in the US are going to bring instability to the forefront.
US debt to GDP ratio is already an insane 120% . At some point along this path of ever increasing debt, people are going to see that USD is no longer safe and choose other currencies, or possibly crypto. Bank runs tend to happen all of a sudden when no one expects it. The same situation could theoretically happen in the US.
The reserve dominance shouldn't be relied upon when we could simply raise a small amount of revenue with taxes on the wealthy to balance the books.
Tariffs are a necessary tool, and can be positive in the long run to create revenue and lower trade deficits. They are a regressive tax, but there is some positive to making some imported goods more expensive in the US. It does discourage companies from importing everything. In moderation targeted tariffs can be good.
The debt is projected to be $50 trillion by 2034, so revenue does need to be increased somehow. Otherwise on the current track the US will be unable to service it's debt.
Ideally they should just tax billionaires, but politically this is a lot easier for them.
The problem with tariffs is moreso on what they're going to do with the revenue. The surplus will almost assuredly be used to give tax cuts to the rich, and the debt will likely be $50 trillion by 2028, not 2034.
I believe that was the British until the 19th century. I could find of no such thing for US commissions, although I am not all that versed on the history.
I mostly just picked the poster because it looked neat ;)
That's a bold claim, not that I necessarily disagree with it. Are there groups of well respected historians that would agree that it has begun? I could only find a few here and there that think it has started.

Need a few additional mods to aid in occasionally removing posts or comments that violate the rules in the sidebar, mostly incivility.
There are some punctuation errors in your title. It should read:
Plex is "overhauling" its apps with a redesign and under-the-hood "upgrades"
Those who use Plex to access personal media will find that their libraries are in a
dedicated[hidden] tab, while the Watchlist will take up prime real estate in the top navigation section. Plex says it also streamlined the user menu for quick access to things like your profile, friends and watch history.
So they're hiding the entire point of Plex deep in the menu and promoting things that make them money. Enshittification.
Also as a side note if anyone would like to help moderate this community please message me. I'll try to respond in a day or two.
reddit was open source as well.

That's not a constructive approach. Doing nothing just means Republicans completely disasemble what remains of democracy in the US.
It has not collapsed yet. Democrats are electing a new chair RIGHT NOW (I don't know the date, but in the next few weeks).
They are going to elect a centrist. We can stop them. Now is the time.
If the new DNC is progressive and inspires people, it will prevent reluctant Republicans from going full scorched earth.
A progressive platform will win Democrats the white house for the next 20 years. Ask FDR how I know.
This, right now, is the final chance we have to prevent collapse.
Spread the word, share & cross post.
Please spread, cross post, share, whatever; wherever you can. People should have input into the democratic policy platform, but they're so brazen as to say the "center is where we need to be".
These people, these few hundred people, are a big problem with the democratic party.
We need to take the narrative back from centrists. It can be done by telling the DNC what to do, not the other way around.
The election that will take place at the DNC to replace the chair will decide the policy direction of the Democratic party. Let your voice be heard!

“I’m not interested in anyone who is moving further away from the center,” said Cindy Bass, a Pennsylvania committee member from Philadelphia. “The center is where we have to be.”
They're not going to change a thing unless people make them.
Find your local state delegate and personally tell them how you believe nominating a centrist will only going to guarantee another Republican victory. They are listed here: https://ballotpedia.org/Democratic_National_Committee
Bernie Sanders is working behind the scenes to get a progressive in there but he can't do it alone.
You're absolutely right, this is the fundamental problem. We need to find a progressive to run the DNC where Keith Ellison almost succeeded (he didn't win).
Ken Martin is also one of a handful who will likely be elected chair next since the current chair is stepping down.
That's a really precise breakdown and appears to hit the nail on the head.
What would be the most effective strategy to wake them up to the new political realities? Because I don't think even this election did that.
What is a party platform? Here's how they're made.
Though largely unread, political party platforms are a vital clue about which groups hold real power in the two major national parties and can help predict what the government will actually do.
DNC policy discussion
Who decides what policies the DNC chooses for their national platform? Obviously corporate donors effect the bottom line of the organization, but who are the power brokers internally at the DNC that make the decisions to create those policies that favor corporations over people?
This is their leadership team, but something tells me they're not the ones making the decisions to not advocate for Medicare for all, or other widely popular left wing policies.
I don't think there is but at the same time I think an over reliance on the sanctity of neutrality benefits those who lie and misinform (ie current right wing news/media control political machine)
yes very true, but please don't do that, lol. do it here ---> !politicalhumor@lemmy.world

The party chased former Republicans and rich donors, while alienating the working-class majority.
rules discussion
I've seen a few complaints over the past few weeks about there being a lot of psuedoscience, and there has been a fair amount of reports.
I figured it would be a good idea to update the rules on the sidebar to clearly lay out what is and isn't allowed.
I think a tagging system might help to keep down on the spam and elevate real scientific sources. These are just a draft and more rules could be added in the future if they are needed.
Current draft (work in progress, add suggestions in comments): *** A community to post scientific articles, news, and civil discussion.
Submission Rules:
- All posts must be flagged with an appropriate tag and must be scientific in nature. All posts not following these guidelines will be removed.
- All posts must be peer reviewed and published in a reputable journal, unless flagged as news or discussion. No pseudoscience.
- No self-promotion, blogspam, videos, or memes. See list of unapproved sources below.
Comment Rules:
- Civility to other users, be kind.
- See rule #1.
- Please stay on the original topic in the post. New topics should be referred to a new post/discussion thread.
- See rule #1 again. Personal attacks, trolling, or aggression to other users will result in a ban.
- Report incivility, trolling, or otherwise bad actors. We are human so we only see what is reported.
Flag Options
- [Peer reviewed]
- [News]

We need a return to Sandernomics.
If Dems want any chance of winning in 2026 (midterms), assuming we still have an election, there is only one path forward, and that is things that matter to Americans.
Economic issues that Sanders was successfully campaigning on in 2016 when he was thwarted in the primary. It's not important to fight over what happened that year, but his platform is 100% the way forward to progress.

Opinion: People should stop promoting stories that mention Trump
Stories that talk about all the bad things Trump has done are only seen by the left. This makes the left hate Trump and his supporters more, while the right feels increasingly "oppressed" by this hate. They run to their savior Trump and the viscous cycle continues. More media presence for him only adds to his influence, negative press possibly moreso than positive.
People on the left should ignore Trump and talk about real issues. It is the only way to defeat a sith.
