I’ve got some rage reserved for the Biden team right now. They do actually do some good things but are heinously miserable at communicating it so of course the MAGA thugs fill that vacuum with their own ‘info’.
The coalition split apart so they had to call for snap elections
There are a few moments that stick in my memory whether I like it or not and this one was up there with Jan 6. for me. Fucking billionaire assholes.
All infrastructure should be owned by the government
After the US election my good friend in Germany was like 'thankful I live in a stable country' and that very day their gov't collapsed.
Wait what, I have below average blood pressure and have always leaned on caffeine to focus better. I never had any idea the two might be connected.
No you're right, even if it's just chaos and infighting for the next four years we're all going to suffer
I feel like if we're to get out of this unscathed it'll be because of this kind of infighting. AntiMAGA people in gov't should find as many ways to stir the pot as they can.
EDIT: y'all - definitely agree that we're not getting out of this unscathed, you can quit pointing out my poor choice of words
I feel like people are using those terms pretty well interchangeably lately anyway
I think you're 100% right actually, the only way you convince Americans to build out train infrastructure is to convince them it's not train infrastructure.
Agreed, it's offensive to imagine that Nancy Mace is anyone's equal.
I just hope the Democrats understand this too. Their best moves are probably going to almost always be either stirring the pot to try to turn the GOP on themselves, or throwing wrenches in the governmental machinery whenever possible to keep them from doing anything meaningful.
Absolutely agreed, and it didn't just start with this campaign or any campaign. The Democrats are bringing a knife to a gunfight. Because they seem to think they don't NEED to communicate their achievements or intentions. Biden's thing was literally 'deeds not words' which is a lovely idea but a complete failure in this media landscape. The republicans are campaigning and messaging year round now and it's even easier for them when the Dems have left a vaccuum for them to fill.
I want Mastodon to work as much as I want Lemmy to work but as long as all the people I want to follow are on/going to Bluesky I'll be on Bluesky too. At least until it gets entshitified and everyone flees again.
It's way better than it used to be - 10 years ago I would have agreed with you wholeheartedly but finally places like Five Guys are making their mark on the big European cities and people have a better understanding of what a hamburger should taste like.
It's still like 75/25 bad to good but it used to be 95/5 or worse.
This except W. Bush's first election
Democracy is bad but still the least worst system. The thing that people seem to ignore the most is that checks and balances are what make it great. A voting public is important but not the only important check on the system.
TIL of a strange coincidence between an episode of Seinfeld and the OJ Simpson muders.
