Australia bans social media for under 16s
  • even "crash course" alone is enough of a reason to keep YouTube accessible

  • Australia bans social media for under 16s
  • You don't (lawfully) ban kids from parts of the library because you are worried they might read about things you don't like, y…

libraries are carefully curated. Popular "social media" of today is a shit show.

This is the equivalent of banning kids talking to each other at school, on the bus or at the mall/park.

no, it's not "equivalent" to that at all. Are they banning messengers?

Kids in schools talk through game chat anyways. Are they banning games in Australia?

☞ "Exemptions will apply for health and education services including YouTube, Messenger Kids, WhatsApp, Kids Helpline and Google Classroom."

this ban is not directed at kids, it's targeting "big tech".

  • Australia bans social media for under 16s
  • even YouTube got in an exception list. So it's not an "all or nothing" approach, it seems.

  • that has nothing to do with netGuard though.

you can either uninstall gms 👍 or filter it's connections with netGuard by enabling "manage system apps" from "advanced options"

  • how do you guys use privacy focused messaging alternatives like Signal or Matrix?
  • it takes some time but people get on signal when you explain it's advantages over whatsApp.

i had only one contact on signal when i started using it. Now almost all my contacts are on it.

it helps if people care about you and rather die than write an email 🙃

  • NetGuard - A simple way to block access to the internet per app
  • it not a good option to "block" internet connection on android.

why it not good? what you disappoint?

  • Australia bans social media for under 16s
  • if social media is fediverse, you're right; if social media is agents of surveillance capitalism, fuck social media

what's "social" about what most people call social media?

  • Australia bans social media for under 16s
  • "freedom" of kids and teenagers to rot their immature brains on "social media"?

freedom to be manipulated by Zuckerberg and his minions?

freedom to learn what a "real man" is from sexist assholes

freedom to develop bottomless insecurities before constructing a semblance of a "self" to get you through the grit of societies

at least they recognize the problem and … pass hopeless laws 🤷

  • Ohaguro

Ohaguro (Japanese: お歯黒, pronounced [ohaɡɯɾo], lit. 'black teeth') is the name given in Japan to the custom of blackening one's teeth with a solution of iron filings and vinegar. It was especially popular between the Heian and Edo periods, from the 10th century until the late 19th century, but the opening of the country to Western customs during the Meiji period led to its gradual disappearance. It was a tradition practiced mainly by married women and some men, almost always members of the aristocracy and samurai. In addition to Japanese society's preference for black teeth, it was also considered beneficial to health, as it prevented tooth decay by acting as a dental sealant. The practice of dyeing one's teeth black was also a known and widespread practice in southeastern China and Southeast Asia, although with different recipes.

    Caltrop

A caltrop (also known as caltrap, galtrop, cheval trap, galthrap, galtrap, calthrop, jackrock or crow's foot) is an area denial weapon made up of usually four, but possibly more, sharp nails or spines arranged in such a manner that one of them always points upward from a stable base (for example, a tetrahedron). Historically, caltrops were part of defences that served to slow the advance of troops, especially horses, chariots, and war elephants, and were particularly effective against the soft feet of camels. In modern times, caltrops are effective when used against wheeled vehicles with pneumatic tires.

Much like family members, our brands are abstract nodes of wealth, interchangeable assets for their patriarch to absorb and discard according to the opaque whims of the market. And just like family members, our brands regard one another with mutual suspicion and malice.

    > The adult toadfly strategically lays its eggs near the nostrils of the common toad, displaying a preference for weakened or injured individuals. Upon hatching, the larvae delicately feed on the nostril tissue, gradually navigating into the intricate passages of the nasal cavities. As they mature, these voracious larvae exhibit an insatiable appetite, devouring not only the host's eyes but also its brain and other vital tissues.

    Flag of Nepal

    > The national flag of Nepal is the world's only non-rectangular flag which is used as both the state and civil flag of a sovereign country. The flag is a simplified combination of two single pennants, known as a double-pennon. Its crimson red is the symbol of bravery and it also represents the color of the rhododendron, Nepal's national flower, while the blue border is the color of peace. Until 1962, the flag's emblems, both the sun and the crescent moon, had human faces, but they were removed to modernize the flag.
