SUPER NINTENDO WORLD Direct (Donkey Kong Country) 11.11.2024
  • Edited to add the timestamp when it starts

  • What are you playing this weekend? 2024-11-08
  • I didn't grow up with Atari, I was born a bit later. So I don't have any memories attached to it. But I really liked the format and I think you can really enjoy the games more in the context of the interactive documentary. And some of them are just timeless classics. Llamasoft is the story of Jeff Minter, one legendary game developer who's developed so many games. It must be great to learn about his career and play the games in this doc format.

I hope Retrorealms is doing well, because the game hints at new games in the future. I can imagine Freddy Krueger being next...

What are you playing this weekend? 2024-11-08
  • I've been playing the Retrorealms Halloween/Ash vs. Evil Dead games. Mostly Halloween. They're pretty fun so far!

I got Atari 50: The Anniversary Cellebration Expanded Edition on Friday, and I've been really enjoying it. I love the format of interactive videogame documentary, it's amazing and there's so much interesting content. I'd love to get Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story too in this same format, but as of March 2024, physical was in planning stage with platforms to be determined. I haven't found any news since then :(

Also looking forward to being able to get Tetris Forever, another an interactive documentary videogame, physical version apparently next year...

  • Backwards compatibility for switch successor confirmed
  • It's good to have official confirmation 🙌

  • What are you playing this weekend? 2024-11-01
  • Yeah, the worst day was when I was too sick to even look at a screen 😅

I did get Brütal Legend in a Humble Bundle yes. Looks like it was Humble Indie Bundle 9 in September 2013, back when they were cool!

The game is still quite fun. Other than the humor (if you don't like Jack Black, it might not be the game for you), the gameplay is good and has lots of different mechanics.

  • I was off work sick for a few days, so I decided to catch up with Super Mario RPG on Switch. I finished it and did a bit of the aftergame stuff, and it was quite fun. The style is amazing, I really enjoyed how pretty everything looks in this remake. The easter eggs and the humour in general are really good.

The negatives are the battles get a bit repetitive at times. And:

    spoiler

Whoever designed the 3D maze seems to have a personal vendetta against gamers and hates us with a passion. It did some damage... 😆

I also played some stuff on Steam. Titan Attacks (a modern Space Invaders with a cool style) and Syder Arcade when in a mood for pew pew games and Brütal Legend which I've had for years and only just now can play with a decent set up.

  • Rage of the Dragons NEO | Release Date Trailer - November 14th

Rage of the Dragons NEO will be available on November 14th for Steam, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X

Rage of the Dragons brings back the adrenaline of 2D battles with refined gameplay, charismatic characters and a dual combat system that demands strategy and precision. In this game, every blow counts and every decision can be the difference between victory and defeat.

Rage of the Dragons NEO is a new version of Rage of the Dragons, released in 2002 for arcades. It was a unique and innovative game, mainly due to its highly praised visuals and technical aspects at the time. With beautiful scenery and animations, incredible moves and an acclaimed soundtrack, it's a must-have for any fighting game lover.

Famous for being very challenging, Rage of the Dragons NEO is based on tag team battles where the player uses two characters, controlling one at a time, being able to alternate them during combat, and being able to use both at the same time to perform unique special moves.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition – Announcement Trailer – Nintendo Switch
  • This game was so impressive and really fun on the Wii U. It could be a big seller for the Switch!

I wonder why it took them this long to bring it to Switch. Maybe there's a sequel coming out for the next console.

  • What are you playing this weekend? 2024-10-25
  • What? The weekend's already here? Where did the week go? I need to look at my backlog and choose some games!

I remember Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition for Wii U was amazing. One of the few games that did really good use of the Game Pad, I had a lot of fun with it. I was tempted to get the collection for Switch, I assume it looks way better than on Wii U (which wasn't really an issue for me). But I don't know if I'd play all three of them from scratch...

  • Voidwrought – Launch Trailer – Nintendo Switch
  • Yeah, back when I saw this (was it on the Indie showcase?) I thought it'd be Silksong!

  • What are you playing this weekend? 2024-10-18
  • GOG games I've been having a harder time making them work. At least the Mortal Kombtas on fullscreen mode, I'll eventually figure that out.

I play random characters on Injustice too. I had it on the Wii U and I think I did the whole story mode there, but it's been a while.

Let me know what you think once you play Halo. The first one at least was fun for me. I never played multiplayer though, I think that was the main thing back in the day? I'll see how far I get on the first one before I move on to the second one...

  • What are you playing this weekend? 2024-10-18
  • I've been playing Halls of Torment as I mentioned last week. But I also set up a new partition exclusively for playing on my computer. I installed Garuda Linux, a distro built on ArchLinux for gaming.

As many others, I have a bunch of games on my Steam library which I've acquired via sales or Humble Bundles, and I've barely played them (if at all!). With this new setup, games are working great and I'm trying to check out more of them. I'm really surprised with how well non-native games work on Linux these days!

I've been playing the latest Killer Instinct, Ultra Street Fighter IV and Injustice: Gods Among Us fights every now and then.

I started a new game of Halo: Combat Evolved. I played this through years ago when I still double booted a Windows partition, and I remember having lots of fun with it. I also started Halo: Reach mostly to see how the latest entry worked on Linux (and was impressed!). I think I'm going to get proper organized and play them in chronological order if I decide to keep playing Halo. I also have the Bioshock collection, which I might also check out. And a few more I'll go through once I'm done with these! 😬

  • I went back to Echoes of Wisdom for this one echo I was missing:

    spoiler

    There's a Lynel!

I got Transformers: Galactic Trails today on the Switch, so I'm going to be checking that one out. I hopefully will be playing some co-op TMNT: Cowabunga Collection too!

I've also been playing/will be playing some other stuff on Steam.

  • Rescued old CRT
  • Really cool find and great work with the refurbishing.

I've picked up a 14" Bush CRT with a VHS player and a 29" Ferguson that people put out next to the rubbish bins. They both need repairs, but they kind of work. It's so cool to play the old consoles in these! And there's a special thing about playing a video cassette for those of us who grew up with it 😬
