That I can confirm. Windows won't let me move files if any app is using them. I sometimes do it by accident when I'm editin an office document, realize it's in the wrong folder so I try to drag it to Documents. That won't work. But I got used to it pretty quickly.
When the hell would I need to update my Windows because of an app update? I only restart when there is a system update, which you have to do on Linux too if you want your kernel to stay up to date.
I appreciate Linux for how well it can handle single-purpose tasks, like if I wanted a media centre or such, but after daily driving it for 3 years on my Desktop I've had enough. Anyone who thinks it's easy has a lot of spare time they wish to invest into a thing that's supposed to just work.
Open terminal
See whether the app is in my distro's repos, flathub, or snapcraft (It's not)
Go on the internet, search up the app's name
Download the AppImage (might be a virus)
LibFuse2 is not installed (fuck me)
Install LibFuse2
Install Gearlever to integrate AppImage into my desktop
I can finally launch the app
I need to install all of my apps under Linux as well. Doesn't make much of a difference. I don't like the default browser, media player, torrent client, office suite, etc. that Mint ships with for example.
Fair enough
Someone definitely reads the changed code of Gentoo packages. You are saying that every operating system on the planet is untrustworthy, besides gentoo and a few other source-based distros, but let's target Ubuntu in particular.
Windows itself was installed during that time. Additional software installation took a few minutes. I installed stuff when I needed it thorough the day.
You can literally use W11 without an account so easily. But rather than showing people how to do that it's preferable to use this opportunity to preach about Linux. That's really sad.
Most people don't care about the account requirement, considering Windows 11 is running on hundreds of millions of computers. An for those who care, tick an option in rufus.
Replace with your cloud of choice.
And then you can't even install an app as the Appstore needs Apple ID. You got yourself a flat camera with an OLED screen. Good job.
You can use W11 without an account as well. I am doing that right now. Either tick an option in Rufus or use the IoT ISOs.
I just don't understand why would a regular user using android/ios switch to Linux from Windows just because it requires an account now as well. They still get all of the benefits of Windows, and all that's needed is to sign in.
Well, Windows is shipped with Xbox apps as well as MS store. A lot of people use those. Office and OneDrive is used a lot too. One account signs you into every one of their products.

How the fuck. I seriously want to know. My W11 IoT installed under half an hour.
Sure. And a regular user will visit Steam's website and download a .deb. Which will work as most people use Debian/Ubuntu derivatives. The Steam flatpak is not even official.
Like every linux community. Living in a bubble that doesn't exist.
Plasma supports wayland as well. On distros where it doesn't ship by default all you have to do is install a package.
I made a script that configures Ubuntu (mainly its GNOME) the way I like it. I also made it work in Debian and Fedora.

It doesn't do any crazy ricing, as I mostly focused on usability tweaks and automatic installation of my must-have extensions. (Tiling, clipboard manager, dash to dock, desktop icons)
Most notable tweaks include:
- clicking on a running app minimizes it
- clicking on a group of apps brings up their previews
- adds minimize, maximize buttons to windows
- installs flatpak, adds flathub
- install flatpak and snap plugins into gnome-software (doesn't work on Fedora)
- installs snap
- installs mtp-tools and gvfs-backends on Debian to be able to transfer files from a connected phone
- adds right click > New File
- Super + Shift + S brings up the area screenshot
- Super + E opens the file manager
- Ctrl + Alt + T opens the terminal
(Those already configured on Ubuntu don't get configured again, obviously.)
I also recorded a short showcase to prove that it works without errors https://youtu.be/xf739ivb9hg
e621, a furry image forum, will be forced to verify their users identities if this bill passes
Here's a link to the news. https://e621.net/news_updates
Edit: As people in the comments pointed out, this bill targets all websites hosting porn. e621 just happens to be hosted in Arizona, and it therefore affects them directly.
I just felt like making this after taking that picture of my cat
