If you were a rich man... What would you do?
  • Pretty much what I do now, but with way more sex.

(I'm disabled so I have lots of free time to game and fuck around on the internet)

  • Why are $70 AAA games slashing prices so drastically?
  • Exhibit A:

nfs games up to and including MW 2012

These are solid, enjoyable entries in the series. Peaked with Underground 2 and MW 2005, but the takeover/acquisition of Criterion pumped new life into HP 2010 and MW 2012.

    Exhibit B:

nfs games released after MW 2012

These are dogshit. Heavy dlc, meh progression, horrible to play on a keyboard, stupid upgrade systems (cards? cards? are you retarded, EA?), always-online, shitty online servers, horrendous physics, so arcadey that they make actual arcade racing games look desirable.

You'll note that this game is in the second group.

I got it as a gift a couple weeks ago, they paid $10 for it, which I was holding out for >$5 to buy myself; it's actually better than the last iteration, but not by much. That game - heat - I thrashed on at launch and 6mo later, and when the premium or whatever edition dropped to like $1.25, I finally bought it (10h demo before) and honestly, I want my $1.25 back. Here, $5 for unbound is about right, near the upper limit.

If they hadn't killed Criterion (the reboot is in name only, the talent jumped ship with the forced merge), nfs might be awesome still. They have to do a metric fuck-load to save this series. I have almost every game, I'm a massive fan of the series... But for the past decade, it's fucking dogshit.

  • What are some illegal things that should be legal?
  • As someone with experience in poly relationships, (gently) you know not of what you speak. I'm merely a data point, but there is proof behind it vs 'seems' and assumptions.

  • What are some illegal things that should be legal?
  • parks perpendicular to the flow of traffic across the California 101 freeway

  • Tesla releases API pricing, dev says would cost $60 million per year to run his 3rd-party app
  • RedReader is still going, and is still free. I've been using it since essentially its first release over a decade ago. I was the first to suggest the dev accept donations, around 4 years ago, as it's a one-man job and it used to get regular updates. And the dev has stated he wants to add lemmy functionality alongside the existing reddit code, so users can switch between the two like an account switch, and maintain the UI they are fond of.

(I'm using Thunder currently while I want for RR lemmy support, but obviously I quite like the app, have recommended it to many)

  • I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me!
  • I'll take some of your money then, I'm sure you won't mind considering how well-off you are (and how blind you are to those of us less fortunate). Oh, you don't want me to do that? If only there was some system, some measure of equality, some safety from poverty, a safety net for those that got dealt a shit hand and are juuuuust treading water... while fuckwads buy their second Bugatti this month.

So for now, off with their heads. A few rolling away and they will come up with something real quick.

  • Plex is overhauling its apps with a redesign and under-the-hood upgrades
  • For me, the DVR functionality is basically non-existent. Having to pay a third-party for channel programming is just lol. The UI too, it is one that a programmer thinks is peak, but any outside user sees era Windows 2000.

Those were the two killers; I know there was more but without /complete/ DVR functionality ootb, it's doa for me.

  • WWAN unlocking on Spiral Linux

(my first post on lemmy so I hope I'm doing this right)

Distro: Spiral Linux (Debian, KDE spin), by recommendation

System: Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 2 (Intel) (distro recommended as I am looking for Debian(-based), + btrfs, snapshots, and fde, included via the gui installer)

I'm having issues getting ModemManager to unlock my X55 modem. This morning I wiped my drive to install Spiral (KDE), coming from Kubuntu 24.04. While the modem worked after running the proper fcc unlock script in Kubuntu, it is entirely missing in my Spiral install. While I assumed that it would not be that simple, I copied /etc/ModemManager from my Kubuntu live environment to Spiral, ran

    sudo ln -sft /etc/ModemManager/fcc-unlock.d /usr/share/ModemManager/fcc-unlock.available.d/105b:e0ab

and restarted, but alas that's not enough, so I'm stuck. I have added the network profile + apn to ModemManager (the UI) but of course without the modem unlocked, I can't connect. I'm new to cellular modems in Linux (this was a windows machine until ~6 weeks ago) but I'm otherwise comfortable with the terminal and commands. The modem was working as expected last night in Kubuntu.

I haven't got the system setup yet (trying this first before going further) so if I botch this, an install is no problem. I'm assuming it's either (or both?) a service, or a missing package that sets up what's needed, but I'm at a loss as to how to proceed.

I discussed this here https://lemmy.world/comment/10540509 this morning, though I think I got all the important details typed up above. But maybe it could be useful somehow.

    Any suggestions are welcomed :)
