Anyone else get an insane number of time out requests?
It's about half the time I try to do anything.

Not logged into lemmy.world when entering from google
When I open Firefox and go to lemmy.world, I am logged in. But if I click a lemmy.world link from Google, I am not logged in on that page. This is annoying because logging in from that page then requires 2-factor authentication. In general this makes upvoting or commenting on posts needlessly cumbersome.
(Note that I am clicking on a lemmy.world link, not another instance like lemmy.ml -- although, it would be really cool if it could somehow route me to lemmy.world's instance of that lemmy community -- I'm not sure if a workaround for that exists).

(answered) What does deleting a post or comment actually do?
I have noticed that when I delete a comment or post, people still vote and reply to it like they can see it. Does the delete button only delete it for me?
Edit thank you to those who answered

How do l hire moderators?
So, one day ago l created my own community !tech_memes@lemmy.world and it kinda blew up quickly. Now lm looking for mods because of these reasons:
- Im not very active on Lemmy. I only spend like 20-30min/day.
- l have other stuff to do.
- l don't want sit all day on front of computer to moderate.
- l don't want be exposed to NSFW content Can you give advice how to choose right moderator for your community?
lf you're already moderate a few mid-sized communites and want moderate my community, then l can hire you.

Lemmy and languages or disappearing posts
For almost any community on the desktop I get to see only single digit posts or nil. The same community accessed through any app on my phone has lots of posts.
I have tried to understand the language selection thing in Settings on desktop, but I am unable to understand my language selections. There seems to be no way to know if a language or undetermined are presently selected.
How do I ensure that I can access all posts while browsing the default UI on the desktop?
The Alexandrite UI seems to show almost all posts like the mobile apps.

Requesting /fantheories
Can I mod /fantheories?
The only mod created it a year ago, made a single post there, and hasn't made a comment/post anywhere in over four months.
They mod about 50 communities, all of them seem to be ghost towns the account was just squatting on.
So not sure if you just want to delete those so when someone wants to create it they can.

How do I change the font for the lemmy.world default interface on a browser?
I use Firefox and while on the phone I use different apps and set my preferred font, I am not able to find the place to change the font for the web interface.
The default font appears very blurry to me compared to other websites.

Witch hunting is going to quickly destroy Lemmy, and prevent it from flourishing
I made a post earlier this week, which was met with an aggressive hostile witch hunter who apparently has nothing better to do then just try to insinuate flaming / witch hunting towards me because they don't like what they're reading.

This is possibly the third time Iāve dealt with a super, aggressively toxic person who comes in and writes a huge, massively long off-topic rant on one of my postsā¦ and whatās the entire basis of it? Witch hunting. Not responding to the topic or the discussion post, just writing a big wall-length post of āthis person bad, pls upvote and shameā. He alleges Iāve used AI to generate my posts or some of my writing, which is absurd and ridiculous, everything I say is written by me, an actual human like tf? But even if he suspected it, why does he have to go on a huge, massive rant and throw it out there, like what does this add to the community?
We have to really think about how we want our community to act going forward, because this raises a huge concern. AI is not going anywhere, itās the future of humanity basically. Students are using it in college or high school, many getting accused falseley of using it. So having people witch hunt like the Salem witch trials āHES AN AI!ā on posts is just absurd, itās baffling. But more importantly, the toxicity. This is what inevitably killed reddit too. Someone with an ego so incredibly fragile they had to resort to reviewing someoneās entire post history, and then comment that in a post just toā¦ make them feel bad? Shame them? like seriously? It undermines the entire purpose of Lemmy or any other discussion board. To discuss things. They canāt be bothered to actually discuss the point, they just resort to insults. Unbelievable.

Copy-pasting images to Lemmy in Firefox converts jpeg to png. Is this a Lemmy bug?
I just made a post copy-pasting images from another tab. All jpegs became pngs, for example 1.3MB became 6.4MB.
If I save the image first, then upload to Lemmy, it stays as a jpeg. What causes the pointless converting when copy-pasting? Can it be stopped from happening?

Questions about anonymity on lemmy.world servers
I'm trying to understand how safe it is to use an account on lemmy.world to post dissenting opinions regarding the U.S. government. I have three questions:
- If a subpoena is issued for IP records for a user or their comments, will all historical IP data be available to provide?
- Is there a time limit on how long IP records are kept?
- When a user deletes their account on lemmy.world, are their comments and/or IP records also deleted?
Asking for a friend...

Lemmy world is slow
I have moved instances since Lemmy world is taking way too long to load pages and the thumbnails and images are even more delayed. I am making this post in case the admins are not aware. But my problem was solved by moving.
