Pepper Spray Laws by State 2024

In all 50 states and Washington D.C., it is legal to use pepper spray for self-defense purposes.

If you don't already have pepper spray, you should get it, one for everyone in your household, and you should carry it.

Why not guns?
- The two are not mutually exclusive.
  
  However, pepper spray is much more available to many more people. It can also be more effective at stopping an attacker; people don't always even know they've been shot until later on, even if the wound is ultimately fatal. Pepper spray is also far less lethal, making it a suitable defense tool for someone who doesn't want to have to think about killing another human being. Pepper spray is more useful at very close ranges.
