Have you ever been experienced a natural disaster? If so, which one?
  • Not a disaster but I was on vacation in Cancun during the summer about a decade ago and a small hurricane went through headed north. That's pretty routine there and it was relatively mild, though my flight was delayed 24h.

When I got home, which was north TX at the time, that night the same storm went over me again. Though at that point it had reduced significantly to just a thunderstorm.

Then early that morning I got in my car and headed north to IL where my cousin was getting married. As I was crossing into Missouri, I went through a heavy rainstorm and I realized it was the same storm from before. It was pretty neat to experience it in different parts of the continent over 48 hours.

  • Lol! I was just thinking to myself, "Huh, I guess not" and then I remembered I lived in Fort Worth for a few years and one year it snowed barely even two inches. The city shut down for a week and the roads were littered with debris from car wrecks. Having grown up in the northern Midwest, I was quite amused.

  • Bernie Sanders: We Need More Working-Class Candidates to Challenge Both Parties
  • The problem is that it makes sense to us, the average Americans who would benefit from such things. But not to the elites who will be required to cede some amount of wealth, power and influence in the interest of such things.

  • Reddit Got Rid of Their World Buffs
  • Anyone remember The Button or r/place? That was peak reddit for me since it brought together the entire community. When they stopped doing stuff like that despite the community's love for it is around when I started seeing the writing on the wall that they were ultimately there to make money and couldn't waste engineering hours on "frivolous" community engagement.

  • Tesla Has Highest Rate of Deadly Accidents Among Car Brands, Study Finds
  • My partner and I joke that they're the BMWs of electric vehicles. I once saw a 1-star review on an Electrify America station by a Tesla driver who was freaking out about the station not being compatible with their car and whining about how it should be because Teslas are the most common EVs on the road and how they're never going to patronize Electrify America again. Meanwhile, there's a Tesla charging station just a few blocks away that has at least a dozen available spots whereas the Electrify America stations only have four.

  • I really want to like Lemmy
  • If the BlueSky migration keeps up the pace, I think it will be a good bet that Reddit to Lemmy will be the next big user migration. There's signs it's already started, within the last year I've been here I've seen the community and sub-communities grow significantly and there's been an increase of self-proclaimed converts over the last several months.

  • Urinals should not exist.
  • This hits me deep. I will often walk into a bathroom and walk right out if I see too many people. I'll either find a quieter bathroom or just hold it because it's physically impossible for me to pee if I can sense anybody within close proximity. Sadly, that applies to stalls too.

  • First carrots of the season!

My summer squash has taken off over the last several weeks and overtaken the neighboring carrots. So I hadn't checked in on them in a while. Found a few good ones this morning!
