There are very strong lingering effects which mean women, on average, are paid less.
It's especially hard on women in various countries where they're now expected to both have a successful career and be the primary child caregiver. Which is as ridiculous as it sounds.
However, one example of advocacy from a cafe in my city of Melbourne Australia a number of years ago really rubbed me the wrong way: when a cafe decided to charge like 25% more to men (inverse of 80%). I was a close to minimum wage worker at the time (in Australia, before the cost of living skyrocket, so I wasn't starving), and it annoyed me because if I went in, I would be asked to pay more because I was a man, never mind the fact I would likely be earning far less than many women going in there.
The wage gap is 100% real, and things should definitely be done to make all genders pay more equitable. But hell, the class divide is orders of magnitude worse, and we ought not forget it.
This is honestly the biggest joke of them all.
Get ready for way, way more election interference.
Other than maybe serious white collar crime, because it can often lead to a bunch of suicides.
Though even then, once they've done their time (and hopefully received a lot of counselling, and not treated like an animal in prison) maybe the even they deserve to reintegrate into society.
Maybe human rights should be universal. My hot take haha
@ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net well, well, well. Good morning to you my fellow amphibians 🎩🐸
Why does it feel like this comment section is assuming someones values based on their enjoyment of works of fiction haha
I like both for different reasons. And I don't think that really says much about my values at all
It's entertainment, people!
Unless you're at a company using Microsoft services, where you have no choice, other than chrome (at my company), which hot take, is worse than edge.
This may be Australia specific, but do job postings not spell out what they want in other countries?
Like, job postings in Australia (these days) are: this is the job, here are the key selection criteria, please provide us a resume and cover letter (or just a resume, or cover letter optional, etc). Even down to maximum number of pages sometimes.
They just tell you, and part of the way they weed people out is if they fail to follow what's written (simple way to weed out anyone paying no attention).
Do other countries just have to GUESS what the recruitment managers want at each company?
Is this an indicator or straight up ADHD specific? Because this is me constantly
You lucky bastard. Where I live it's basically monthly or fortnightly. I've never heard of anyone being paid weekly.
"With YouTube Premium, enjoy ad-free access, downloads, and background play on YouTube and YouTube Music."
In Australia, if they reneg on this headline promise, doesn't matter what's in the fine print, this would be refundable under Australian Consumer Law (not a lawyer).
What bullshit, and how silly on their part, since it's just so much more convenient to block ads instead of paying
Yes, but please voting reform at the same time. I do not enjoy this rollercoaster where we vassals of the US cross our fingers and hope the nut jobs don't get into power.
And then they do.
Please for the love of God, make voting reform the number one issue above all else, because it affects all else.
This is a solved problem in Australia. You put the parties next to the candidates names to assist where people don't want to learn about the individual candidates in their location, and people hand out "how to vote" cards at the polling places for how their party prefers the others parties.
People who don't have their own opinion on anything but their first choice use that as a cheat sheet.
There are solutions for the lazy and disengaged.
You are aware of first past the post right? That really needs to be the first thing on your agenda to get fixed. Until then, the USA will ALWAYS be a two-party system (with brief blips in change over).
It hurts me that people don't realise you know where the sun rises and sets (roughly), anywhere, by looking up and roughly knowing what time it is. Other than midday, then fair enough.
I don't like the overall message society gives that men need to be "good at sex" instead of people mutually enjoying the experience.
To me it's akin to someone calling you boring to talk with, while they contribute nothing to the conversation other than showing up.
Please think of your family haha: https://www.wikihow.com/Enable-the-Double-Tap-Period-Shortcut-on-an-iPhone Or https://www.techbone.net/android/user-manual/double-space-full-stop
If you use a different keyboard, then you're on your own.
Or just don't double tap space!
Funnily enough, this is the case for men too. Hence all the "this has never happened to me before" memes on TV shows in the 90s and 00s.
"just as many"? Press X to doubt. I don't doubt you've heard some, but people just don't care about cat breeds in the same way people care about dog breeds.
Hence the meme
While it wouldn't solve climate change, it would certainly make it easier to play Minecraft without OP players.

Literally Nineteen Eighty-Four
The only numbers I will ever spell are one and zero, and only when using them as a pronoun, or for emphasis, respectively.
Is there ever a reason to not to use symbols when dealing with numbers? Why would "fourteen whatevers" ever be preferable to "14 whatevers". It's just so much easier to read numbers as symbols, not spelled out.
(Caveat, not including multipliers, like "273 billion").
Google Allows Creditors to Brick Your Phone
I installed NetGuard about a month ago and blocked all internet to apps, unless they're on a whitelist. No notifications from this particular system app (that can't be disabled) until recently when it started making internet connection requests to google servers. Does anyone know when this became a thing?
Edit 2: I bought my Pixel 6 phone outright, directly from Google's Australian store. I have no creditors.
Were the courts not enough control for creditors? Since when are they allowed to lock you out of your purchased property without a court order?
I don't even live in the US, so what the actual fuck?
Edit 1: You can check it's installed (stock Pixel 6 android 14) Settings > Apps > All Apps > three dot menu, Show system > search "DeviceLockController".
I highly recommend getting NetGuard, you can enable pro features via their website if you have the APK for as low as 0.10€, but donate more, because it's amazing. You can also purchase via Google Play store.
I just can't help myself
Especially when there's some mad person with a folder where they put ALL their markups, correspondence and revisions in the same folder, with no sub folders 🤢.
10 mins before open
While you're madly running about getting the store ready and dialling in the coffee.
And they're mad that you're not open before the opening time...

Saw that this hasn't made it over during the Reddit migration so have decided to start it myself (ChemEng).
Engineers and all others welcome, architects too if they enjoy some bants.
