Guys, what did you buy during the Steam autumn sale?
  • Hmm I'm not sure I like the idea of tilting the device - with the steam deck you're tilting the screen too. Doesn't that impact your view of the screen?

But I'm definitely gonna try your trackpad suggestion. Thanks, I'll see how it goes. Do you use it in hectic situations - like doom etc? Or is it better for sniping and stuff where you have time to aim?

  • I kinda missed the gamer gate thing, was distracted by other shit and wasn't gaming at the time. Am I right in thinking it was some kind of misogynist incel bullshit? Like, girls aren't allowed to play with the boys' toys?

But yeah, I've seen enough stuff on discussion boards and heard enough anecdotes to see that there's a lot of bigotry in gaming. The hard right are successfully using it as a recruitment platform for kids. Fuckin appalling, but they are well organised and fascists don't have to worry so much about sectarianism.

I just don't get how people can't see that there's strength in diversity. Like, in gaming you want a team with different skills, abilities, experiences, and characteristics. It's the same IRL - a diverse community is a strong community.

  • [Discussion] Steam Autumn Sale has started. What are you buying for your Steam Deck?
  • Alien isolation Uncharted legacy of thieves Resident evil Bioshock infinite.

I'm just getting back into gaming after a twenty year gap so I've got loads to catch up on. I've been enjoying FPS stuff, but I'm frustratingly bad, even on easy mode. Need more time for practise but work long hours, ho hum. Hopefully I'll find time to try all of the above. Recently finished bioshock original and loved it.

  • Guys, what did you buy during the Steam autumn sale?
  • Man I'm the same. I have a couple hours screen time after work but often I'm tired an just wanna read a book.

I've only just started gaming again after a twenty year gap so I've got a big wishlist. I get excited about games that I want to play, buy them on sale - and then don't have time to play them.

I started gaming when pong and space invaders were cutting edge. There's just so much cool stuff out there these days, damn we're lucky, I just wish I had more playtime!

  • Guys, what did you buy during the Steam autumn sale?
  • Hmm no I haven't. Thanks, maybe I should give it a try. I guess trackpad aim is just using the pads instead of the joystick? I've not used gyros at all, does that require tilting the device? Yeah I seem to be enjoying FPS games but I'm frustrated by how shit I am even on easy mode! I used to be good at unreal tournament way back but seems like games have come a long way since then and I've lost the knack.

  • Day 134 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots
  • I played silent hill and silent hill 2 long ago on a PS2, really enjoyed them and I'm up for giving this a go. Did you mention in another post that you're playing it on a steam deck? I would be doing the same, how's it going? Steam says it's unsupported.

  • Guys, what did you buy during the Steam autumn sale?
  • I got a steam deck last spring, before that I've not done any gaming since I had a PS2 so I've got a good twenty years of games to catch up on. It's a bit frustrating how crap I am at gaming, particularly with shooters. I'm trying some different things to try and figure out what I'm into. I recently finished bioshock, so I just bought bioshock infinite. Also alien isolation, Alan wake, resident evil, and Uncharted legacy of thieves collection. I don't get a lot of screen time but I'll find time to try em out and see what grabs me.

  • I'm not at all sure you can assume gamers are leftists. An awful lot seem to be pretty hard right.

  • Yeah, and the Brexit vote fucked us. Being in the EU was great. Anyone could see that leaving wasn't going to make much difference to immigration.

  • Games to play with my late 40s brothers?
  • Great I'll check em out, thanks mate. I'm going to send this comment to my brothers. Yeah I'm thinking we can do co-op gaming.i don't think we really want to play against other people, we're pretty much looking for a private playground until we get good enough to play with the clever kids!

  • Games to play with my late 40s brothers?
  • Tbh not really. I'm the only one who's at all flexible - I can do steam deck or old laptop (3050). But electricity is an issue for me, I'm not on mains electric just solar & batteries, and the steam deck is much less power hungry. Both my brothers have kids and homes to pay for. We're not broke but can't really upgrade tech without having to budget. We were hoping to find something that'll work for us all.

  • I'm forwarding this whole thread to my brothers, we'll agree on something. I like the look of sniper elite 5, thanks!

  • Games to play with my late 40s brothers?
  • Lol we actually played worms Armageddon against each other before. If it still has stuff like exploding sheep etc it be a good game to play with their kids

  • Games to play with my late 40s brothers?
  • Hmm left for dead 2 seems possible for steam deck at least. I'll check with the others. Yeah we could do co-op, but I don't think we wanna play against other humans. Just something we can catch up an have fun for two or three hours each week

  • Games to play with my late 40s brothers?

    Hi

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this. Basically I'm looking for recommendations for a game I can play against my 2 brothers. We live in different cities and hardly get to see each other but are we all into games.

We are all in our late 40s and haven't gamed against each other since way back when I had a few networked PCs in a squat where we played unreal tournament. I am well out of the gaming loop, i just finished bioshock a couple of months back, now I'm playing doom & death loop. I'm crap at both!

We were thinking we'd like to play a shooter just against each other, kinda like unreal tournament, or something we can do cooperatively. We are definitely not ready to go up against the kids online. Maybe doesn't have to be a shooter if it's fun to play together. Most of us have kids and none of us has loads of screen time.

One brother is on an Xbox One is on a PC One is on a steam deck with WiFi hotspot.

    I'm grateful for any suggestions

My crate garden - an update

Hi yeah so this is a follow-up post. I posted a pic of my garden maybe a month ago and said I'd post more pics over summer, so here is its current state. As you can see, the gladioli are coming and going, the calendulas are bullet proof (those fuckers will flower when temp drops to zero). There's a couple of grafted apples in the mix, my marigolds got nailed by slugs (lotta slugs and snails this year). I'm not growing any food aside from the apples which are too small to fruit and the heritage beef tomato someone gave me. The sweet peas are almost over, gutted cos I love how tarty they smell! But I've been saving seed pods. There's a bit more stuff in the mix.

Obviously growing in pots and crates is challenging but as you can see I live in a van and my plants have to be able to move when I have to go. Also there's fuck all soil where I am right now. I'd love a proper garden but I'm doing my best. Anyhoo, the bees and butterflies love it, and so do I.

    My crate garden

Hi yeah so I'm not sure if this fits here but I'm posting it anyway. I live in a van so my garden has to be in pots so I can move it when I have to. Also there's fuck all soil where I am right now. I'm mostly about flowers, I'm not growing any food this summer except that tomato plant in the blue crate, someone gave me that and I couldn't not give it a chance. I think it's a heritage beef tomato. There's a couple of apples in the mix, one of em flowered in spring but they were only cuttings& grafts last year so doubt it'll fruit. The rest is meant to be pretty stuff, sweet peas, calendulas (dead headed, hopefully back soon, those fuckers are bulletproof), marigolds (slug attack but couple survivors) gladioli, couple of roses, snap dragons, sunflowers be coming late due to sluggery, cornflowers, the orange crate is supposed to be meadow flowers, we'll see what happens there. Anyway, if no-one tells me not to I'll post another pic in a few weeks cos all being well it'll only get prettier
