Anon shares how they survive
  • The price of rent ($3,000/mo) and homes ($1,000,000) are crazy where we left. My wife and I currently living in a small car for about a month now. We are comfortable and have all we need. Small battery (jacket/bluetti/ecoflow) with solar panels and an inverter to charge while driving, small 12v fridge, some clothes, food, 14 gallons water. I leaned a ton from YouTube “CheapRVliving”. Right now we are sacrificing, but soon we will own cheap land and will build our own small house on it. I think it’s the only way we can survive this harsh world. Everything is just so expensive.

  • What are some tools you need when starting to do basic DIY Mechanical work and possible home improvement in the future.
  • Electrical meter

    Tire air gauge

    Tire patch kit

    Air pump

Brake reset tool (forget exact name, I paid $10 and it pushes the brake piston back in when installing new brake pads)

Tire thread measuring tool (know when you need new tires)

Battery tester (test how many cca remain)

    Battery acid tester

    Radiator coolant tester

Distilled water to put in battery

Coat hangers (metal hanger can be cut and bent to hold things such as the brake caliper)

The tire patch kit saved me a few weeks ago.

  • Windows is not free as in freedom
  • It’s called windows because they are always looking in at what you’re doing. It’s “open” so they are now public about looking inside your windows.

They were stealing my data from my desktop as it was syncing to their cloud. Seeing those sync icons when I had one drive disabled made me switch to linux about the time they were taking about the AI tech screen shots. F that, I’m out.

Been on Linux for a while now and it’s been great.

  • Post your setup. no matter how uggo
  • I did do custom firmware for the internal drive for 4k ripping, but didn’t find the right firmware for the external ones (years ago). Maybe I can find it again once we unpack our storage. We are moving to another state now. Thanks for the info!

  • That’s awesome you have a server for ripping. I made a dedicated machine using my old desktop.

    Ryzen 1700, 16gb ram, 12 dvd / Blu-ray drives (one drive does 4k Blu-ray’s) and 2 more usb Blu-ray drives on top.

I ripped so many thousands of DVDs that my neighbor gave me after he passed away.

  • I’m in the middle of moving so everything is packed up. But this was the rack before we moved.

Networking, 3D printer, black and white laser printer and a color laser printer, several servers.

I had home assistant, Plex, Minecraft server, 7 days to die server, and many other services.

Servers are Ryzen 5950x and the other is a threadripper 24 core.

The other side of the rack was HDMI switchers and some game consoles.

Going to miss the 1gbps fiber internet, we now have Starlink.

  • How young can you be when you irrevocably mess up your life? and How?
  • I remember as a kid, I met these other kids that would drink from the side of the street. That sewer water was full of nasty including gas and oil runoff from the roads and who knows what else.

I also had an ex that would drink the chemicals under the sink as a tiny kid.

  • Have you ever ghosted somebody?
  • I had an abusive family member. Whenever they wanted to start fights I would stay quiet. It got to the point of them insulting me every chance they got. I ghosted them for almost 3 years now. Just finally moved out of that house. My wife and I are living in our car, but we are free from abuse and that’s all that matters. That family member truly had a hold on us as slaves. So finding an escape was incredible.

  • [Feature Request] Background app refresh
  • Nothing that I know of. I don’t run much on this phone, and you can see in the screen shot I keep most stuff from running in the background (just my email is on).

No VPN. Only voip is the one built into the phone (Wi-Fi calling) but I’m not on Wi-Fi.

My Mac is packed away at the moment, been traveling.

  • I'm moving to another city soon. What are some good apps that could help? Inventory, logistics, etc
  • I used a spreadsheet and labeled each box AA, AB, AC… BA, BB, BC… FA, FB, etc. it’s 2 digit codes for each box.

I then took pictures of every box as I’m filling them, and make a list of all contents in the spreadsheet.

In the end we have way too many boxes! Yikes. lol Maybe I should have gotten rid of more stuff.

  • Background app refresh

When I put my iPhone down for a bit and come back to Voyager, the app resets back to the top of the feed. I then have to scroll so far down to find the place I was at.

My iPhone settings does not show Voyager app in the background app refresh settings.

I believe this setting would keep the feed in the same place when I bring the app back.
