Wiliam Shatners impression of Space
  • Na, fuck Shatner for soooooo many reasons, but also fuck listening to the hyper privileged and wealthy musing about how precious life and our planet are when them and their greed and their egos are the ones destroying them for everyone else in the first place.

  • See a tent?
  • Go out in to your own community and figure out what's needed. I have no idea where you live, how you're able to help, or what kind of support your community might need.

Start by looking for a Food Not Bombs or other group helping feed vulnerable people, and go from there, I'm sure that at the very least they'd appreciate a donation and or helping hand, but more importantly, they'll be able to point you in to several directions where your help could be used.

  • So server issues ate a friend 😭

Long story short I made a moth friend who ended up teleporting to me every time I logged in first thing in (my) morning and while I'm happy to drag them around with me once in a while, it became a daily thing and some days I just want to play alone, so I started temporarily blocking them during my first playing session so that I don't have to reject them, they just don't know I'm online.

Today I went to unblock them to send them daily light, but the server issues that have been happening all day did their thing at the exact same time, and once I unblocked, they didn't show up in the constellation but the block list was still showing (they were the only ones on it, normally once you unblock, the list goes away), so I reset the game, and now the block list is gone, but so is this friend, stuck in Sky limbo 😂

I know they're just a random on the internet at the end of the day, and we'll both survive if this doesn't sort itself out, but I just feel so guilty worrying that this moth will think they did something wrong 😭

E: you can ignore me, just logged in again and they're back in my constellation! 😂

  • Except complaining will get you absolutely nowhere, because the people you're complaining to (E: with the power to do anything within the existing system) don't give a shit at best, and at worst, get their kicks out of sweeping homeless camps and abusing their occupants (or at best, are already on your side, in which case you're still achieving absolutely nothing by complaining).

Maybe consider "do some direct action to actually help people" instead.

  • Two wolves rule
  • Apologies for the R word - not my meme.

Maybe don't fucking post it then? An "apology" (which is meaningless if you're going to do the thing anyway) doesn't make ableism ok.

  • I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me!
  • I’m actually surprised (not really) how many people can come this close to getting it, but still be so desperate to follow the rules they've set (E: where they can directly and indirectly kill millions a year for profit with impunity, but we're not allowed to even say nasty things about them, never mind plan to fight back against them, without being considered dangerous terrorists), that you manage to convince yourself billionaires will just freely and willingly give over those assets and all of the power that comes with them one day once we've asked nicely enough.. 🙄

    It's a delicate dance
  • i just think the whole experience of the mental hospitals is rather harsh and cold for what they’re trying to accomplish.

A system is what it does. They're trying to accomplish control and conformity, not genuinely help people in distress, otherwise these places wouldn't exist since they have very little therapeutic value and increase distress exponentially (this isn't to say that people who work in there don't genuinely want to help, but you can't from within an ableist capitalist white supremacist patriarchal cis heteronormative framework. Also there are unfortunately plenty of people who go in to these jobs on a power trip looking for access to vulnerable people to abuse, and that same framework lets them).

E: I'm in the UK where this is all also the case, as I suspect it is in most places.

  • A toxic staffing row is splitting the NHS
  • It isn't just doctors who have an issue with PA's, it's patients, too.

Don't get me wrong, PA's have their place in the system, and doctors are far from perfect, but PA's have been brought in to basically replace doctors for a fraction of the cost, and training, and it's not good enough. Complex and long term cases were already falling through the cracks before, to now have to rely on people who have even less knowledge or ability to help is just making things worse for those already most vulnerable.

  • Why is everyone vehemently against easier lives?
  • You sound like you've never had to care for yourself or a home a day in your life, and have no idea how the real world functions for anyone but the most privileged and entitled.

You're in for a real eye opener once you venture out on your own (or not, if you have the kind of privilege that would generate this mindset, I have a feeling you'll always have someone to go around after you cleaning up your messes and you may never get the slap in the face from reality you so desperately need).

  • Explanation rule
  • Thank you for your reply, I genuinely appreciate it. Calling out ableist language is often met with resistance, defensiveness, and even ridicule, so it's always really nice and encouraging to get a positive response.

That activity you did at the youth centre sounds incredible, and I wish that kind of thing was an essential part of every child (and adult)'s education, little things like inclusive language (E: and the improved attitudes and lesser stigma that come with it) are the foundation we build a better society on.

But as you say, we were all, disabled (in which case we have to grapple with internalised ableism as well as lateral) or otherwise, socialised in an ableist world, so that kind of language is the default, and it takes a conscious effort to avoid, and even when you do, we all slip up once in a while we're only human, it's about how we deal with the slip up that matters (getting defensive and doubling down vs learning and growing).

    Thanks again. <3

Between the words are Richard Scarry characters driving and riding in their individual vehicles: a worm in an apple car, a pig in a corn car with a non-binary flag waving at the back, a mouse in a rainbow coloured pencil car, a pig in a hotdog car, a mouse in a pickled cucumber car with a trans flag waving at the back, a cat on a bicycle with a progress flag waving at the back, and finally a small animal I can't identify, maybe a gecko or cricket in a crayon car.

    1. The text "if we wait for the government it will be too late" above a drawing of 4 people meeting in an airconditioned building. One is Grey and is smiling and showing love to the others, saying "I love you guys!". The 3 others are red, who is smoking a cigar, green holding a bag of cash, and yellow wearing a top hat represent gas oil and coal respectively.

    2. The text "if we act as individuals it will be too little" above a drawing of a person in a small but flourishing garden, they are holding up an apple they got from one of their trees, saying " Such... beauty!" with sparkly eyes. Beyond their fence to the left is an incoming tsunami, to the right are a field and trees on fire with bellowing smoke.

    3. The text "if we act as communities it might just be enough" above a drawing of several groups of people outside. From left to right, there are 3 people standing around a produce table that has a sign above it saying "crop swap on today!", next to it is a small cabinet marked "seed library". On the ground in the centre foreground are an adult and 3 children sitting around a campfire, the kids listening intently, the adult has the Australian Aboriginal flag on their shirt. Behind them are an adult and child getting a pizza out of an outdoor oven. To the right is a stall with a sign above it saying "refugees welcome", in front of it are two adults, one is wearing a head scarf and is holding a baby. In front of the stall are 4 rows of crops growing from the ground.

    ID: 4 panels:

    1. A self righteous person holds their hand up and says "Violence is never the solution."

    2. Stephie replies with a smile "Oh! So you agree that we shouldn't give weapons to the police?"

    4. Stephie is now right up behind the other person, looking angry, saying "Or did you mean that violence is only a solution when it helps maintain the status quo?". The other person looks deeply uncomfortable.
