If I live in an apartment, how can I put my food waste to compost?
  • You should check to see if your city, county, (or however you handle local government demarcation) has a composting program of some kind.

I live in an apartment and I'm able to drop off my compost at designated composting spots provided by the city on the weekend.

You may also have a composting organization or a local community garden that composts that will happily take your scraps to add to their larger composting pile.

  • A bit late for this, don't you think?
  • I found 2 resources I believe I can trust. There is a snopes article that lays out the basics.

Plus a local NPR station podcast in San Francisco that goes over the whole document in 13 episodes. I'm only two episodes in so far.

I don't think I actually want to read the 900+ page document.

  • He's not really gonna get rid of the ACA right?
  • That's not entirely true. Everyone forgets there was an individual mandate penalty that his administration & congress repealed.

Anyone remember how the ACA assessed a tax on those who were not insured? (with income based exceptions). The tax was meant to feed into the ACA and keep plans in the marketplace cheaper, and to stop the program from adding to the federal deficit.

Once the trump administration came in they worked with Congress to eliminate that tax penalty.

Here is a helpful article that talks about the penalty and what the early findings showed when it was removed.

  • A bit late for this, don't you think?
  • This describes me to a tee. I plugged my ears on all of the campaign stuff knowing I was going to vote D regardless of what was happening on the politics side.

I work in international development and there is already enough sadness and frustration in keeping abreast of news in that sphere.

Now I can't afford to blissfully ignore all US political news so I need to do some reading to understand what's coming my way. I really hate it here.

  • I use it, but I don't think I'm on the level of a lot of the posters in this community so take my opinion with a grain of salt

I like it, the bags are smallish for the cost 17-25 dollars per order. But it varies the type of coffee I drink and it has led to me discovering new brands that I go back to.

  • Gangs of New York.

I love Scorsese and I usually don't mind how long his films are, case in point Killers of the Flower Moon. But Gangs of New York is not only too long and weirdly self indulgent, but whatever Cameron Diaz is doing in her role is... Not great and makes me sad every time.

Edit: I realize I inverted flowers and killer in Killers of the Flower Moon.

  • Got my first lemmy.ml ban
  • Seconded. I joined .ml because they were the first to have a formula 1 community.

I prefer to follow the news on other instances like beehaw and .world to avoid your experience.

There are normal/non-radical communities that exist that would be lost via defederation.

  • Nikki Haley gets first 2024 win in the Washington, D.C., GOP primary
  • The majority population in DC proper are people of colour. And the types of white Folx in the city are way more progressive than your average American.

    Black or African American (non-hispanic) (43.9%) White (non-hispanic) (36.7%) Other (Hispanic) (4.23%) Asian (non-hispanic) (4.03%) White (Hispanic) (3.8%)

    https://datausa.io/profile/geo/washington-dc/

Of the top five groups, whites only make up like 40%.

So this turn out is exactly right.

  • I assume I will need to focus on inter team drama and silly season to find something interesting to focus on. It's looking like a tough year
