Anyone who is fence sitting or undecided about naturalism or empiricism and is dabbling with 'the supernatural' is just longing for a meaning or purpose. You don't get to claim to be free of the shackles of religion but still asks questions about the supernatural - can they really claim to be free? When I left my religion it took me a really long time to deprogram. It doesn't happen over night but it takes years. You can't be half pregnant: you either are or you aren't. You don't want to call it God because it's embarrassing, but what's the difference really? At that point it's just a semantic distinction.
OP if you're feeling lost and without purpose there's more fulfilling things than getting trapped in the search for God. There's natural humanism. Read Carl Sagan. Read some Marcus Aurelius. There's a whole universe of interesting philosophy and science worth learning about rather than trying to find meaning in thy mystical and empty 'supernatural' hoping to stumble upon a sign that says made by god. The universe is majestic and endless and we are specks of atoms here for a short short time. Make the most of it while you can.
As an Italian.... Not sure if proud or embarrassed....
Looks more like Type K. That's a really interesting chart
Yea, was misinformed and you corrected me. That was really good of you. Thanks. Do you want your dick sucked or something or are you unable to have a human conversation? Did I not write a bunch of other stuff besides that or are we going to be terminally autistic about that one point?
Yea man. You got me. Hoooollyyyy shiiiiiitttt.
It's the only options we got in a FPTP. If you think not participating absolves you of any moral agency then you are just naive. I never said the democrats were champions of trans issues. I said steps were being taken in the right direction. They were very small steps, but it was something. Democracy demands vigilance and active participation. Its only as strong as it's participating individuals. The same goes for any other polity, so don't delude yourself in thinking that we are immune to corruption in any alternate system either.
You seem to be under the false impression that I am here to defend the Democratic party. Let me dispel any notion of that: I am not. Two things can be true at the same time: the democrats can suck and the Republicans want to drag us to hell. I dont know what the answer is tbh. My goal is to minimize harm in a FPTP system. I only have so many options in front of me. Not participating is also a moral choice, but a moral choice that carries serious consequences. It doesn't matter anyway. Democracy is way past us at this point if the next four years are what I expect.
Well. If the most ardest proponents can't hold it to the fire then how are the rest of us normies supposed to come on board? Clearly there is a disconnect between praxis and ideology
You must be joking? There is a whole community of people posting how they got banned from ml for the most asinine reasons. Are you serious right now?
I got banned simply for stating that China is a centrally planned economy. Is that a bannable of fence nin your view despite it being the main description on Wikipedia and among most economists?
So what
I already called them despicable. Do you want me to suck your dick too? I'm pretty done with the Dems too. I dgaf any more
I'm all for anarcho-communism. I studied it in college. I don't know what the execution looks like though in practice but I find it appealing.
I personally didn't shut down progressives. When I say ideal world I'm just stating my preference. As in I'd really like to see a progressive party. Non the other way around.
I'm not gloating. I've stated as much numerous times. I'm pretty glum about it. I'm disappointed in the DNC overall.
Try to have a convo without getting so bitter all the time. I'm not your enemy.
I remember these now. I find those two candidates and their messaging despicable. However I should caveat: these are two small town local races. They run in stark contrast to the messaging from the President.
I understand the Dnc is a big party tent. In an ideal world I'd love to see a true progressive party take hold in America. The DNC needs a thorough shake up. Im feeling pretty glum about it atm tbh
There is no glee. I'm sorry it seems that way to you. There is a lot of frustration going around. Playing the blame game gets us nowhere. I was part of the problem too blaming non committal lefties. I'm sorry for my past attitude. I'm just not convinced that block has any interest in making change anymore. I think we're all miserable at the moment. We all have friends or know people that will be personally affected in the next four years so there is absolutely no glee here (at least for me)
Like what? Got any examples?
Edit: I see just down votes. Anyone got examples??
The constant purity testing of candidates/policies?
40 Monkeys on the loose in SC after escaping research facility
Residents advised to keep doors and windows locked as police use thermal imaging cameras to search for animals
These monkeys went bananas: 40 monkeys escaped from a research facility in South Carolina, and local authorities on Wednesday warned residents to stay away.
“Residents are strongly advised to keep doors and windows secured to prevent these animals from entering homes,” the Yemassee police department said on Facebook this week. “If you spot any of the escaped animals, please contact 911 immediately and refrain from approaching them.”
The monkeys that absconded were from the Alpha Genesis research center, which bills itself as “primate research specialists”. Police said that they have set up traps around the area and are “utilizing thermal imaging cameras in an attempt to locate the animals”.
Why is there a user base here that is so angry all the time? Genuine question.
My experience on this platform has been mixed so far but one thing I've noticed the most is a significant contingent of the user base is really reactionary in their discourse.
This is a very typical exchange I have here :
>User: I don't like this color because it's red.
>Me: I don't know, looks more like purple to me. What about red is bad?
>User: Why don't you fuck yourself in the face you fucking cuntfuck!
>Me: OK...
Like, what gives? I don't have this experience on other platforms. I have arguments but never this shutdown meccanism.
Has community engagement dropped off suddenly?
I don't know if others are experiencing a similar situation. My all feed is very sparse with engagement. If I sort top six hours or by top 12 most posts have between 5-10 comments. I feel like there was more in the past? Is engagement dropping off? I'm on lemmy.world as my instance.
Houthis in Yemen blow up a resident’s house, killing at least 9 from the same family
Officials and residents of a town southeast of Yemen's capital say nine members of one family were killed when Iranian-backed Houthi rebels blew up a house.
Is anyone else getting downvotes for benign disagreements here?
At least on Reddit there was some leveling of downvotes built into the algorithm. This site is making it seem like any slight disagreement leads to downvotes thus encouraging more echo chambers. Maybe it's the communities I'm commenting on?
