What's the quickest way to learn Spanish?
  • One of the main reasons I'm learning Spanish is so I can talk to the Spanish girl at work, lol. However, I've already tried before with another girl who only speaks Spanish, and I honestly didn't like the fact that we couldn't communicate much. It was my fault because I didn't know anything except "Hola" and very basic terms.

Google Translate relationships can be pretty frustrating. I'm wondering if I could reach a good level if I dedicated a full month to studying. So far, I'm doing one hour a day. Maybe this girl at work wouldn't mind teaching me along the way if we get into a relationship?

  • What's the worst someone got away with doing to you?
  • People made fun of me every day at work, including my manager. I literally did nothing; it was just straight-up bullying day in and day out. I had to endure that for about a year until I finally received unemployment because they shut down. When you have a 27-year-old man-child wannabe gangster bullying an 18-year-old, he somehow sees himself as tough. He's one of those "I work harder than everyone else" and "nothing applies to me" types. It was just awful.

This was a regular coworker, not my manager, but this coworker would even bully the manager, yet they would still cater to him day in and day out. I ended up getting really upset one day, because I found out my mother had a brain tumor, and he pointed his finger and laughed at me because I was crying after not being able to take their shit anymore. Didn't go to HR and I fucking regret it.

  • What's the quickest way to learn Spanish?

I work at a place where most people speak Spanish, and I want to be able to hold conversations with them. I've watched a couple of YouTube videos, but I haven't been able to retain the information. I need to write down flashcards and notes. I'm wondering, and I don't mind if it's proprietary, what is the best and fastest way to learn Spanish?

  • Because the IT Manager is a clueless imbecile who only wants things his way and will not take in any other alternatives whatsoever. Doesn't matter if it's better for the company, they insist on having everything their way.

  • Which cologne smells so good on a man?

I always notice some women just have the best perfume and it really does make them more attractive just from the smell alone. I'm wondering, what do you think is the best cologne for a man? Have you ever received a compliment?

  • The term "open-source" is ambiguous, and it wouldn't be entirely incorrect to say that this device is open-source since there is code within it that is indeed open. However, it is more appropriate to use the term libre software when discussing user freedom.

In this context, I would prefer to use the term non-free instead of open-source, since this device does in fact contain closed-source firmware.

  • I work in IT, and we recently hired a new "Engineer" at my company. I noticed on the form that he claimed to have extensive knowledge of Python, so I decided to meet him. The first question I asked was what IDE he uses, and he replied, "Anaconda." Before I knew it, he was referring to the entire computer as a "CPU" and struggled to solve simple issues on Windows. To top it off, he makes 30% more than I do.

(I work as a Level 1 Service Technician, and my boss is aware that I have experience with coreboot and GNU/Linux. I just got approval to bring my own setup with it installed. Although we work in a Windows environment, I can make it work.

I also funded and helped test a bunch of hardware for coreboot, with guidance from friends I have who are experienced in the field. However, I only make $55k per year, I'm hoping I can get a nice raise. It's just my boss and I as the two IT guys, so maybe there is potential.)

  • Zelensky says Ukraine war will end ‘faster’ under Trump presidency

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday said Russia’s war in Ukraine will end “faster” when Donald Trump takes over as US president.

Speaking in a radio interview with Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne, Zelensky admitted to a difficult situation on the battlefield, where Russia has been pressing its advantages in manpower and weaponry.

He said the war “will end faster with the policy of this team that will now lead the White House,” referring to the incoming Trump administration

“This is their approach, their promise to their society, and it is also very important to them,” he added.

Zelensky stressed that, on Ukraine’s part, “We must do everything to ensure that the war ends next year through diplomatic means.”

Trump, who was elected for a second term earlier this month, has repeatedly claimed that the Ukraine-Russia war would not have started if he had been president. In July, he said he could settle the war in one day – without saying how he would do so.

Throughout his campaign, the president-elect and his running mate, JD Vance, cast strong doubts on continued US commitment to Kyiv. The war has been ongoing for more than two and a half years, following the large-scale invasion of Russian forces in February 2022.

Meanwhile G7 leaders on Saturday issued a message of unwavering support to Ukraine. “We stand in solidarity contributing to [Ukraine’s] fight for sovereignty, freedom, independence, territorial integrity and its reconstruction,” a statement said.

The group said Russia was “the sole obstacle to just and lasting peace.”

Russia is making gains at key spots along the frontlines of eastern and southeastern Ukraine, moving closer to key hubs like the city of Kurakhove. Russia claimed Saturday it captured two more eastern settlements in the Donetsk region, although there was no confirmation from Ukraine.

At the same time, Moscow is preparing to launch a counteroffensive in the southern Russian region of Kursk, the site of Kyiv’s only major military success this year.

Zelensky admitted the situation in Ukraine’s east was “indeed difficult.”

“There is a slow but steady pressure and advance of the Russians,” he said, adding that they had been waiting for the delivery of some weapons for 12 months.

However, the Ukrainian leader highlighted that Russia’s advances had come at a heavy price for Moscow’s forces, saying they were losing up to 2,000 men per day.

“These are terrible losses,” he said. “They cannot keep advancing with such losses.”

A phone call on Friday between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Russian President Vladimir Putin drew criticism from Zelensky, who accused Scholz of opening a “Pandora’s box” that only works to undermine efforts to isolate Russia’s leader.

The conversation on Friday was the first time Scholz had spoken with Putin in two years.

CNN’s Ivana Kottasová contributed to this report.

Woman testified to House Ethics Committee that Gaetz had sex with her when she was 17: Sources
  • Not trying to defend this guy, but, in some states, 17 is a legal age limit. Hell, I believe Florida has it at 16. I personally think the law should be the same no matter which state you go in. It's a bit over the top to be labeling him as a rapist, because of the state he was in. Regardless, laws must be followed, but still.

  • Democrats are trying to work out what went wrong. On the left a consensus is forming
  • "It helps a lot of if you pay attention and listen to the candidate. Maybe look up her past voting record and background."

People type in "Kamala Harris policies", yet, you could barely find anything. And listen to her? You mean the script she was reading off of?

"...you really truly believe that because she didn't go on a specific podcast, she lost?"

Didn't even have to be a Joe Rogan podcast, if you read on my original comment, I said "a podcast". I couldn't find any podcast with her, so I barely knew who she actually was. Trump doing podcasts and her not doing any, definitely had an impact.

  • Democrats are trying to work out what went wrong. On the left a consensus is forming
  • Kamala is part of the Biden administration, which most people, in my opinion, found to be awful. We couldn't grasp who she was and what policies she wanted. She didn't do enough interviews. Trump went on Joe Rogan's podcast, while she was reluctant to participate in an interview for more than 45 minutes, compared to Trump's three hours. I'm not saying that the interview was the nail in the coffin for her, but it was definitely a contributing factor.

Essentially, the average person wouldn't know what she wanted or who she is unless she actually did an interview on a podcast that they could watch on YouTube. Additionally, Trump was already president, so people at least had a general idea of what it was like when he was in office. I have no hate for Kamala here; I'm just sharing my thoughts on what I think went wrong.

  • Bruh I literally forgot how to play this game, I already have Space Age, but I just don't have the time to play it that much :(

I was doing good a couple months back, had an awesome base, then it got absolutely fucked by a horde of spider crickets or whatever you call them.

  • My mom has said the same exact crap "fuck your feelings" while giving me the bird. She says some pretty stupid shit, blaming migrants and all that. Look, for me, I think we do need a secure border still, but to just be saying "OmG tHe IlLeGalS aRe RuInInG tHiS cOuNtRy!!!!!" is just such a dumb take, like we have much bigger issues at play.

Everyone is going to probably downvote me, but I did vote for Trump, but... I do see how Trump created this atmosphere of hate and stupidity. The only reason I voted for him was because we're on the brink of WW3 and I thought he was truly the last hope of getting the wars settled. I'm scared, and I'm sorry, but shit is crazy right now. Trump at least has some relations with Russia and North Korea, that could potentially cool the pot. Feel free to tell me why I'm wrong, I'm open to discussion.

  • Is gaming with Coreboot (or any other open source bios) viable?
  • Currently gaming on my 9020 OptiPlex with Libreboot (i7 4790K, 32GB DDR3 1600Mhz, 7900 XTX 24GB VRAM <-- GPU mostly for AI stuff) The 9020 is capable of having 100% free BIOS firmware.

Honestly, depending on what you're looking for, anything above 4th generation CPUs require the FSP binary, which is nearly impossible to replace. There is a new machine in Libreboot, the 3050 Micro which has the potential to reverse engineer the microcode / Intel Management Engine completely, though again, the FSP blob is still there. I have spoke with the founder of Libreboot and they said that it can't really do anything, but I need to do more research. They said in 5 years we should see the ME / microcode on this machine to be replaced. If I recall correctly, they said this vulnerability would allow you to replace the ME / microcode on any coreboot compatiable 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th generation machine.

Regardless, for real actual freedom you'd have to buy anything that's pre-2009 (e.g. GM45, X4X). I also recently helped fund and test the Dell 780 MT/DT/USFF. It does not rely on any binary blobs in the flash (100% free BIOS) and the entire ME firmware on it can be fully removed. It's currently as close as you're going to get in terms of freedom and performance (Q9650 3Ghz Quad Core CPU and 4x4GB DDR3 1333Mhz RAM, Intel Integrated Graphics)

The way I look at it, using some 50% open BIOS firmware is kinda pointless. Sure, better than none, but any proprietary blob in your system can be a potential vulnerability.
