Signaling that you are a man that can provide for a family
  • Meh.

Sounds like this is more of a convenient excuse rather than an actual deal breaker.

Like there was likely something else going on and The vibes weren't there and this is a quick and easy way to get out of the relationship when you know it's not going anywhere.

And I feel relatively confident in this assumption because everyone knows that if a girl is really into you she'll put up with some really fucking weird shit to keep the relationship alive.

Free nugs is not a deal breaker.

  • Tesla releases API pricing, dev says would cost $60 million per year to run his 3rd-party app
  • Per user costs for a website is on the number of pennies a month and most of that is for electricity.

I can plug in a $750 second-hand server with a xeon processor, 40 TB of storage and 128gb of ram and easily serve all of the needs of several thousand users on essentially any website type for $1.50 a day.

Sure, if you throw in video and a lot of bandwidth then the number would go up, but for pictures and text and website interaction on the par of bluesky or twitter or mbin sans hosted video it would work very well.

If I reached the point where I needed to expand for the raw processing I can just throw another $1,000 and $45/month in electricity at it and double how much I can handle.

Computers are stupid cheap. Internet services are stupid cheap. Asking for more than a dollar a person per month for anything that doesn't have licensing fees on it (like tv/movies) or very high bandwidth usage (like YouTube) is a greedy rip off.

That being said, at those prices I would not make anything for running the service, and that also would not cover additional development costs for any new features that needed to be added, but even so, unless your goal is to disenfranchise users you should not charge more than a buck a month or hell, $10 a year per person for all of their access to your service.

  • I've been boycotting Walmart for fuck, 7 years now holy shit. I have not lost out on anything by not shopping with them, except for maybe I have fewer shitty low quality products in my house.

The only thing Walmart is any good for is either for communities that they have waltzed in and put the local grocers out of business so that they control the only food source in a 10 to 20 mile radius, (not that that's good but if you're in that situation you got to fucking shop at Walmart) and typically their produce is slightly fresher and higher quality than a lot of other places like kroger, because they have the turnover needed to keep fresh produce fresh.

But if you can shop at a farmers market you're probably going to get fresher healthier food at roughly equivalent prices.

  • What happened to kbin.social?
  • The maintainer Ernest had some life issues come up and he was not able to maintain it anymore. When it hit a snag he just did not have the energy left to keep it going.

This information is third or fourth hand so there may be something else going on that I'm not aware of but that's what I was told.

  • The legal system is the perfect place for working out nuanced issues like this.

If I were a lawyer and making this lawsuit I would argue that "publicly available" does not mean "public domain", and that without acquiring usage rights for the data then you don't have the right to use the data.

If the courts rule against a decision like this then that would mean that any website that hosts any materials that can be accessed without an account must then provide that material to any person who accesses it free of charge which is a gigantic consequence to this nuanced issue.

  • Iron Eyes Cody (actor of Sicilian descent who claimed to be Indian)
  • My only complaint about that is growing up native, there were several times when a person I had just randomly met would look at me and say, are you native? To which I would say yes I am, and they would say what tribe, and I would say Lakota, and they would say if I throw this piece of trash on the ground will it bring a tear to your eye? And I would then murder them.

That PSA may have prevented a lot of littering but it also cost a lot of lives.

  • I don't know why you're getting downvoted, you are correct.

    The platform owns the platform.

You have given the platform permission to use anything on the platform however they want.

They own the content you put on the platform.

  • I spent most of my childhood being repeatedly informed by my incredibly Republican family that I lack common sense.

Yet, I have the common sense to know that if you let people do whatever the fuck they want to do with their own bodies and lives then they'll stay the fuck out of your body and your life.

Perhaps that is an uncommon sense. However, it should be a common sense but the people who claim to have common sense fail to understand that consistently.

Maybe common sense is not all it's cracked up to be.

  • Reminder: there is no such thing as the paradox of tolerance.

The rules of tolerance only apply to the people who abide by them.

Therefore, you are tolerant of tolerant people if you abide by the rules of tolerance. You are intolerant of intolerant people if you abide by the rules of tolerance.

It is very straightforward, the only pathway to paradox is from a lack of lexical understanding of the rules of tolerance.

  • And, their views typically do not include the things that most of the people I know hate the most about the platform that they ascribe to.

They just think being Republican will make them wealthier or fix problems in the country or make the world a better place.

The single issue voters have an opinion on a single issue and everything else doesn't matter compared to that one thing.

They don't care about all of the bad as long as the single bit of good can be accomplished, and they don't care if you think that single bit of good is a bad thing.

They don't care to talk to or be dissuaded by their family members who are not approaching them with a spirit of love and care for them.

Beside that, it's not mentally or emotionally healthy to live spring-loaded with ontological traps that can be fired off with a single phrase to bring down judgment and the fires of hell on the people you meet.

They're not going to want to hear you if that's what you're bringing to the table.

Touche means touch, so if you're going to touch it has to be penis to penis obviously.

  • They don't think we're open minded and understanding.

They think we're ignorant of how the world works, condescending, and irrationally judgemental.

I'm not saying this is how we ARE, this is just how they view us, and because they view us like that from the very start, there is no opportunity for meaningful dialogue.

It is bi-directional prejudice, and only by acts of understanding and patience and wisdom can that be overcome.

  • We need to build an Yggdrasil

I'm sure we've got the technology somewhere. We just need like a giant fucking tree to suck the carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and to desalinate the oceans. Something that's the size of an island all by itself.

I don't care if it's 100 billion trees woven together with some science fuckery, but we need an Yggsrasil if we want to fix the planet.

Think about it. A giant tree out in the middle of the ocean that sucks up all of our carbon dioxide and turns it into more trees and that sucks the salts and minerals and plastics out of the ocean and incorporates those into itself until it grows as tall as 100 billion trees woven together with dark science can possibly grow.

Sure, it'll cost I don't know several billion dollars to make this happen a trillion I don't fucking know, but if we had that the world would get better.

    How do you scream?

Like I get the push more air through your mouth and get louder but my voice never breaks. I just get louder and louder and louder until I can't get louder anymore.

One time a friend of mine was a half a block away in the wrong direction and I screamed their name and they jumped because they said it sounded like I was right behind them talking in my normal voice just very loudly.

But then I listen to singers and they get that raw raspy edge to their voice and my voice doesn't do that.

    How do you do that?

How about we play, "Never have I ever"?

    Here's the rules:

1: Post something you have never done that you think many people do. 2: Read the other posts, if you have done that thing, upvote it. If you have not done that thing, downvote it. 3: If you believe the person is lying, call them out on it in a reply. 4: If you are called out, give the full story. 4a: If you see a thread containing the full story, boost the person you think is right and truthful.

Person who has the most upvotes when the thread dies wins.

AI isn't as bad as the doomsayers say it is

Don't get me wrong, there are problems with it, both in the process that modern AI uses as well as the sources that it draws from, however, as of right now ai is just a tool like auto-tune or photoshop.

Even though it will change the media formats that it is attached to, it will not supplant them within the next 5 to 10 years, it will simply transform them.

If you could design your own body and hit a button and have it immediately implemented, would you keep your natural self or would you make changes?

We'll just all assume that every person who gets this would make themselves early twenties with flawless skin, perfect organs, appendages and functionality, and no excess weight.

My question is, would you change yourself from your genetic baseline, and if so, how?
