Why is Neuromancer so hard to get in to?
  • It's my favorite cyberpunk/sci-fi book, but I like a book that demands I take my time with it.

I should re-read it, actually. I don't remember it being as hard to get into as people say, but that's not an uncommon opinion so you're not alone.

  • So this is how my neighbor fixes his fence.
  • I'm in the US. The fence is facing the normal direction. If there's any code saying it must face the other way (or any particular direction at all) then it's code specific to your community, or maybe your state. It's definitely not federal law.

  • Masochism
  • Granted, but I'd argue that dark souls and Elden ring, the typical subjects of this debate, are exactly that. There's no way to add an easy mode without compromising the dev's vision. And based on fromsoft's reticence to add an easy mode, I think they agree.

  • How decentralized is Bluesky really?
  • "federation" and "decentralization" are the new hotness in social networks,

Are they? I think it only seems like that from inside the fediverse. As far as blue sky goes I think the new hotness is just getting the hell away from anything to do with elon

  • So this is how my neighbor fixes his fence.
  • Presumably the fence runs between their property so they have to see it every day. Also those exposed nails could be hazardous to pets or children.

It's also pretty trivial to cut the boards to length and use appropriate fasteners. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but I suspect this kind of carelessness is present in other parts of the neighbor's life. They've probably gotten on OP's nerves before.

  • Masochism
  • I see where you're coming from, but when a game's message is that meaning and purpose is born through hard work and struggling against impossible odds then that message is kinda undercut by a button that turns the struggle off, even if it's there for a good reason.

  • How decentralized is Bluesky really?
  • Presently? Hardly at all. It is interesting that a private Corp is even seriously playing with building a decentralized platform, I guess.

The files are out there to host your own server but from the short look I took it's pretty involved. Most people with the knowledge and interest to host their own twitter-like server have probably already started a mastodon instance.
