Welcome to Big-D
  • Yes. There are no whales in Texas.

  • Welcome to Big-D
  • Holy shit people. It's a fucking joke. Look at the photo... It's a Google ad algorithm.

  • Welcome to Big-D

We look forward to your next visit in Big-D and the DFW Metroplex. Please make time for the largest urban forest in the US, the Sixth Floor Museum at the Texas School Book Depository, or see our various humpback whales that live in the Trinity River.

Do you have any more of these in the back? Can you check anyway?
  • You're awesome. Thank you for taking the time to explain.

  • Do you have any more of these in the back? Can you check anyway?
  • TY. It seems intuitive to me for chickens but I'd be scared shitless to grab an owl by the feet waiting for that death maw to latch down on my arm.

  • Do you have any more of these in the back? Can you check anyway?
  • Do they not go after your fingers? I know chickens chill out after you grab them.

  • Europe
  • Can we please stop posting these awesome masto posts? I keep trying to like the original

  • Time for a road trip
  • I didn't realize the shitpost community also comes with its own Reddit bots. Nice! The assholery is appreciated. Thank you for throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

  • Time for a road trip
  • Texas checking in... We don't have as good of names like that but we have cities like Paris, Athens, and Odessa, TX. I think there are maybe 20 to 25 international city names that would make a fascinating road trip and probably be over 1K miles/1600 Km.

  • Some videogame ads from the 1990s
  • Konami was killing it back then.

  • Some videogame ads from the 1990s
  • It's NEO GEO... Come on. Of course he's playing it

  • Beepberry fun
  • What is that secondary script on the keyboard. I haven't seen that before.

    Cool idea BTW.

  • You sell your work?

  • What are some must-try American experiences a foreigner should try while visiting?
  • No... Just travel there weekly for a long time for work. Still have work and employees there. All of the below should be reasonably close. Hospital is not far from your rental. ..well not far for a Texan.

English food and beer: Red Lion British Pub

    Chinese food: Pepper Twins

    Persian Food: Kasra

Vietnamese food: Old Saigon (have not been but good reviews), my old haunt is under new mgmt so I can't recommend it :(

Cajun food: Bobobs or Cajun Town. I'm sure this will be very contentious but good Cajun food isn't dressy. If you need classy then go Pappadeauxs.

Tex Mex food: Guadalajara Mexican Grille. Pricey but reliable. Otherwise Ninfa's or TJ Birria Y Mas

South American food (Peru): Saldivia's South American Grill (have not been but good reviews)

My other fav's..can vouch through many meals and drinks: North Italia, True Food Kitchen, Oporto Tapas, McElroy's Pub, Poison girl, Agora, Brasil, Common Bond Bistro, Anvil, Harry's Greek, Barnaby's.

I've run out of steam. HMU for any specific questions.

  • What are some must-try American experiences a foreigner should try while visiting?
  • San Jacinto museum. Hard to get to but important to Texas history.

Museums in H town are really good.

Walk around Memorial Park to get some headspace when needed.

    NASA. Expensive but worth it.

I'll add some restaurants. It's a great melting pot of food and cultures.

  • Google found him!

It's the little things that keeps me around

I installed a screen protector for the first time on Monday. I've been having issues getting my fingerprint to work and just would use my pin to unlock. This morning Android popped up a notification saying "Using a screen protector? Click here to increase touch sensitivity!" Pretty awesome.

Now stop asking me to use Gemini.

    I hit a dog.

I was going to drop my kid off at school when a dog ran between two cars and my back tire ran over a portion of the dog. I slowed down and stopped not knowing what to do and watched the dog hop up and hobble away into an adjoining back yard. What seemed to be the owner followed the dog into the back yard. I immediately pulled over but had to roll up my windows as my dog was riding along. I waited a few houses away not really knowing how to react and asking my kid what she thought I should do. When the dog quickly wandered off she wasn't sure how I should act either.

What do I do? My initial hesitancy is tied to the dog quickly walking away into what looked like it's home and the owner slowly following it away. I'm concerned of getting into the middle of a highly emotional situation if the dog needs to go to the vet. If the dog lay lifeless I would have had no issue with getting out and consoling as needed. Is there a difference? I think also am concerned I'll get told I'm responsible and need to help cover any vet costs.

    Google sucks.

Corporations now buy the carpet bomb factory to expand their bomb product line and then carpet bomb their own factory after the war is over.

AI voice over in early trailers

This may be out there already, but it seems like I have seen multiple teaser trailers (including Trailer 1 for Gladiator 2) that seem to have terrible writing and terrible voice overs that sound like AI.

    I did it!

I picked my first lock today. It was a cylinder from a Yale deadbolt that I lost the keys to. I'm so pumped. I sat there for over an hour and finally watched a video to learn the pins are little pistons in Yales. I modified the pressure and approach and bam. It just clicked. Cylinder is now repinned to match my current Yale key. Wish I could cut my own keys. Then I'd be a full turkey service (ha... get it). I told my 12 year old who was making fun of me while I was doing it and she actually looked happy for me when I ran in and told her. She even let me show her how a cylinder and key are pinned.

    NPR stream

Anyone have a reliable URL for KERA? Something changed a few months ago and I can't find a link that'll work in my XIIA internet streaming app.

Dozens of units battled a three-alarm fire in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards Saturday night.

Bummer that this place went up in flames. Hoping it didn't significantly damage surrounding buildings and offices.

Anyone looking to start a /c/Dallas community?

Someone on /c/requests asked for a Dallas community so I figured I'd ask here. I'm a suburbanite so I don't feel comfortable trying to mod for a place I don't live in.

Big props for the mod team

Here is a huge thank you to the /c/dfw mod team. You are doing a great job creating content for our viewing pleasure.

    A page for Ticket listeners

I am selfishly promoting the Lemmy.world page for KTCK Ticket listeners. Not sure how many have come over recently but feel free to check it out. It's pretty threadbare since I am trying to do too many things at once, but you have to start somewhere.

Glad to see TX on the Lemmy map

Just posting here to say Hello! Come join us over on /c/dfw if you are in that region or want to keep an eye on things.

Looking for a new place to grab a nice dinner?

Not that this place needs a nudge, but a little gem in Addison is Lefty's. My go-to family owned restaurant that's been a staple for me for almost two decades. It's tiny and it doesn't hurt to get a rez, but pound for pound it's a great, reasonably priced ($$-$$$) night out. They are not going to wow with a huge bar or huge menu, but everything is done well. It's well loved by the locals and rotates through some famous people in the reg. Check it out.

    I'm a lurker...

But here's to hoping this /c/ will gain critical mass!

    It's worth mentioning...

I was going to create a Dallas community, however I don't live there. I am in a burb and needed a larger sphere of influence when it comes to getting hot takes on food or activity in the region. If someone gets the Dallas community rolling drop a note here and I'll subscribe to it as well.
