Is the Honda Accord 2003 a good car if you're on a budget?
  • I think it's difficult to make that call without knowing the cars history. 21 years old is still 21 years old--the transmission could be on its way out by this point. Hard to say though! Sometimes the old stuff keeps working while the newer stuff falls apart in half the time. How much are they looking to get for it? Any service history?

  • Man pepper-sprayed, tasered and held down for 24 minutes before dying, inquest hears
  • The inquest also heard Mr Peachey had encounters with police, medical professionals and the local hospital in the days before his death, but no-one recommended a mental health assessment.

So it was overuse of force combined with jaw-dropping negligence. This guy clearly had problems, and all they wanted to do is put him down.

  • Landlords Evicted Maui Residents and Housed Wildfire Survivors for More Money. FEMA Didn’t Take Basic Steps to Stop It.
  • Always disappointing to watch people take advantage of others in the wake of disaster. Landlords began ejecting long-time tenants because FEMA was offering nearly double their current rate--no questions asked. As the apartments filled with FEMA tenants, rents everywhere else were raised to the new standard, suddenly pricing lots of people out of a place to live. This is really adding insult to injury for those already suffering from the impact of the wildfires.

  • What are we gonna listen to while farming?
  • Which is more difficult though? Establishing and maintaining a farm or a podcast?

I think it's the high barrier to entry (long days, hard work) that prevent more people from starting a podcast

  • find a "carinderia" (or karinderya, depending on region) which roughly translates to "cafeteria" but is usually run by a sweet lady making as close as you'll get to homemade cooking.

This sounds awesome! Wish we had places like this in the States

  • Charlotte airport employees strike: low pay leading to evictions, homelessness, sleeping in cars, living in storage unit. Management threatens to terminate strikers
  • From the article:

"According to a letter obtained by USA TODAY, Prospect is threatening to terminate workers who go on strike.

"It is Prospect's position, that a strike under these circumstances is illegal under what we believe to be the applicable federal law," the Nov. 24, letter reads. "We expect all employees to work their assigned shifts, and employees that engage in an illegal work stoppage will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination."

The company did not directly respond to questions about the Nov. 24 letter, but in its statement wrote it prioritizes transparent communication with its workers so they receive "fair compensation and robust career advancement opportunities.

"As we navigate this matter, we remain steadfast in our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of service for our customers while supporting our team members," the statement ends."

I can't fucking stand this language they use--not that it's anything new, of course. It's just so blatantly inhuman. These are people struggling to survive and their employer talks themselves up as though they're doing these people a favor (after threatening them for standing up for themselves)... Truly 1st class behavior, American Airlines 🥴
