Expanding Synology
  • This is the answer. Just buy bigger drives, and replace them one at a time and let them resize.

Anyone saying to buy expansion units is wrong. It works like ZFS or btrfs, and very seamlessly. I've upgraded my drives 4 times with zero issues.

  • I have no idea what you're thinking, nor do I care. You want to talk about the principle nature of things, here I am. Do not care for your slant on it. Your opinion isn't special.

Edit: keep downvoting my past unrelated comments lol. Just like a Socialist 😂

  • How to properly test my internet speed from ISP?
  • 99.9% of the time, you'll never get the FULL speed possible from an ISP, you're just paying for the expected capability. The last mile of delivery to where your house is connected is generally the limiting factor, then the network type at the handoff.

    Example:

    • if you ordered fiber, that's a direct handoff to you, so you'll be getting a guaranteed circuit speed of whatever you pay for (but not always the FULL speed for other limiting factors).
    • if you ordered coax cable, you're generally going to be on a shared circuit with your neighbor, and the more connections at the handoff means less bandwidth for you. If 5 homes all use tons of traffic constantly, your metered speed will always be less than what you're max potential speed is.

So the best way to test yours is just any old bandwidth testing platform, like speedtest.net or whatever, that has a testing endpoint close to your home.

Now, your bandwidth test may say 650mbps, but that doesn't mean you'll be getting that at all from every place on the Internet. It depends on how close whatever you're talking to is, and what THEIR max speed is. Any network noise or obstacles in the way to you obviously slow things down, just like your travel between two places by driving.

Edit: on your router, that means the ENTIRE switch on all ports can do 2.5Gbps, not each port. Coax can't even go faster than 1Gbps on Docsis 3.0, and 3.1 is 2.5Gbps max in lab conditions.

  • Spanish researchers discover possible key to enhance immunotherapy cancer treatment: anti-inflammatories such as aspirin
  • Nope, it's not common knowledge, and one study is certainly not bulletproof. The theory makes sense though. I wouldn't bank that anyone is going to be telling people on these regimens they can't get cancer, because most of those drugs cause cancer themselves. Double edged sword.

  • Capitalism is killing our social lives | The Communist
  • Well if you're describing the difference between social structures breaking down for different reasons which don't solely apply to socioeconomics anyway. It's one of the other. You're hopes and dreams are that Communist ideals are more appropriate for the masses in general, but like I'm saying, the general principles of Capitalism aren't what you're describing, you're specifically describing what you see right now in the US. You have a disconnect there you're failing to reckon with.

I'd also state Communism has been tried a dozen times with a faster time to failure than capitalism.

Either way, the course humanity is on now is going to be something different if anyone is going to survive. Sure as shit won't be Communism though.

  • Scientists use microwave radiation to recover copper from old VVF power cables
  • Well, you're assuming this is all flat, unbent wiring. When this stuff is scrapped, it's just a folded mess or ball. They want to just take a big junkyard mess of wiring and melt all the plastic off without any toxic byproducts, then recover the copper.

  • Spanish researchers discover possible key to enhance immunotherapy cancer treatment: anti-inflammatories such as aspirin
  • A bit of something new here, but we've known this for awhile. It's not a viable long-term solution but if they're talking the scope of just the treatment phase, maybe useful for some.

I'll try and find the study, but this was almost the exact outcome of one done awhile back trying to find the correlation between patients with autoimmune diseases taking suppressants that had essentially no occurrences of malignant cancer over decades, but markers present. They found a strong correlation to regular DMARD doses and regular use of NSAIDs to be the cause. It makes your body essentially uninhabitable for cancer. Obviously, not everyone could/should be on such regimens throughout their life to prevent cancer lol.

  • Capitalism is killing our social lives | The Communist
  • See my other comment, but you're describing a Socialist ideal working as designed, but Capitalism off the rails as it was not designed. It's not even a fair comparison.

Someone making an argument for a turd sandwich versus a turkey sandwich since it technically is still a sandwich by name is a foolish argument to prove a point because nobody is going to choose a turd sandwich.

  • Capitalism is killing our social lives | The Communist
  • That's not true at all. You're talking about a specific style of Capitalism that became rampant in the US, and has accelerated the greed, the class warfare, and the expense of future generations. Capitalism as an economic principal works pretty great in places that braces for the greed and corruption, and have guardrails to stop it from taking hold. There are also better social programs in those places.

Communism failed because of its own obtuse idealism which is sophomoric and stupid. If humans were inherently good and worked well together, we would even need economies, DUH.
