Bernie Sanders: We Need More Working-Class Candidates to Challenge Both Parties
  • And now we sit back and watch everyone in this thread who shat on 3rd party for "wasting votes" throwing around stupid takes like:

    • Erm RCV will prevent this from being viable, we should just try to fix the Democrat party instead
    • Working class people don't have the time and money to make a grassroots movement. Clearly we need PAC money to win because that worked so well for Kamala and Clinton
    • PAC money is superior to actual constituents and voters
    • 4 years isn't enough for a new party to work, we need to vote Democrat first to kick the Republicans out before we do anything else
    • 3rd party would only affect the Democrats and split them up
  • What is the scariest thing there? Me: "People who wear shorts in winter..." šŸ˜‚
  • Surprised Hawaii doesn't just say "Ask Japan how it went"

  • Found in the wild: The worldā€™s first unkillable UEFI bootkit for Linux
  • The Fedora doc on this is a bit old but it's still mostly the same:

Secure boot activates a lock-down mode in the Linux kernel which disables various features kernel functionality:

    • Loading kernel modules that are not signed by a trusted key.
    • Using kexec to load an unsigned kernel image.
    • Hibernation and resume from hibernation.
    • User-space access to physical memory and I/O ports.
    • Module parameters that allow setting memory and I/O port addresses.
    • Writing to MSRs through /dev/cpu/*/msr.
    • Use of custom ACPI methods and tables.

The implementation of secure boot is still questionable to this day, but it is understandable that it doesn't always play nice with Linux. I do believe you can use hibernate now as long as you have an encrypted swap (LUKS).

I can definitely see the pain if you happen to be a kernel dev or use linux on any SBC with IO ports you want to mess with in userspace and not make en entire overkill kernel module for.

  • Nintendo targets Reddit pirates in piracy crackdown
  • The main thing they are trying to do is make it more difficult to find this stuff via google, which tbh is still easy without reddit.

But even Switch homebrew has been a pain. Most of it is one off software made years ago because no sane dev wanted to actually keep up with all the firmware releases and limited control of CFW. Github/Gitlab repos keep getting banned left and right for tools not even related to piracy.

3DS has full fledged apps with teams behind everything and HShop which makes it very easy for everyone. Switch still doesn't have a definitive method of handling NSP/XCIs, and all the auto download internet repos are invite only to hide from Nintendo.

I'm really hoping someone finds some serious hardware bypass in their next console after what they did to the emulation scene. They really deserve to go through the insane R4 piracy age all over again for nuking everything online.

  • What happened?
  • ...it has?

I thought countries like China, Iran, India, and Pakistan ban access to social media and the greater internet because of the threat it still poses to information being shared and utilized by common citizens.

I'm fairly certain the flow information still has a net positive despite attempts to crackdown and control online interaction both from corporations and governments.

Pakistan's PTI is still alive despite being stabbed by the military because they can effectively reach their voterbase via the internet. I don't think anyone has actually taken a picture or video of Imran Khan ever since he was thrown in jail, yet he is as popular as ever.

  • France says it canā€™t arrest Netanyahu because of ICC immunity
  • I'm surprised they're even bothering to make a deal out of this considering putting any sort of stance against Israel would be in direct opposition to the USA, which literally every other country has refused to do out of fear or collusion.

Not to mention the ICC really only functions when someone either loses or is kicked out of their own country. People made a big deal of no one arresting Putin as if anyone was actually going to take on Russia by themselves by arresting Putin.

  • Linux 6.13 SoundWire Preps DisCo 2.0 Support
  • Haven't ever messed with MiPI stuff, I wonder if DisCo is standard on all CSI devices? It seems like a wrapper for ACPI which should in theory make plug in play easy, but I have heard of people making drivers from scratch and extracting vendor blobs from Android images to get stuff to work with Linux.

  • Insane savings
  • I remember the good ol days when black friday was actually a single day event, and cyber monday actually had real deals and not faked 30% off 60% markup.

I have to remind myself to buy things I need before November because then they bump the prices and they don't go back down until February.

1 TB 970 Evo SSD selling for $140+ on major retailers right now, even though I bought one a while back for $40 (and even that was lucky because they inflated to $80 anyway).

    Also rip Newegg

  • Pakistan tests secret China-like ā€˜firewallā€™ to tighten online surveillance
  • Pakistan is also king of piracy because the government already shot themselves in the foot by trying to implement this years ago in an effort to control the media.

I wouldn't be surprised if they also know how to get around China's firewall if needed.

  • Is it possible to use windows to run an already existing locally installed linux within a VM/WSL?
  • GPU passthrough is still a pain in 2024 even though they can be easily shared via containers through CDI.

Do you know if you can use a vGPU (sometimes listed as 3D acceleration) instead? Or do you need straight access to the end GPU for the application to work? Otherwise you can actually split your GPU to allow multi passthrough, but it is a bit complicated. Someone made an automated script if you want to try at your own risk: https://github.com/ilayna/Single-GPU-passthrough-amd-nvidia

If you go the windows dual boot route, the easiest setup would be to use WSL to mount your root volume and chroot into it to sort of emulate having your distro run on WSL. No idea what capabilities would work or not, but all userspace functionality should in theory be functional.

  • Since the government can theoretically access the location of everyone's phone, wouldn't it be unsafe for an undocumented immigrant to have a phone?
  • It depends. Physical borders may only photograph traffic for security purposes, no dedicated exit gate. Usually its the entry country that records your crossing, which they may or may not share with the other country.

I'm pretty sure TSA does record people exiting internationally though because people have been caught leaving after an arrest warrant has been issued, even if they made it past TSA onto the flight and into the air. TSA will know immediately if you checked in or boarded your flight.

  • Is there any proof behind the idea that "reddit is filled with bots"?
  • goto post history and see that they are making posting comments/replies every 60 seconds.

even before ChatGPT, reddit was basically a practice site for bot account farming because it had basically zero restrictions and defenses against bots.

the problem is reddit is also filled with braindead karma hoarders and they also tend to act in similar ways. However they usually go for the bigger bang per buck types posts like picture bait and crossposting, and don't interact with threads/comments as much.

  • why do they deny genocide when done by china and russia?
  • 71 to 6 lol

Even though these countries do run media spam operations, they usually target specific events and communities with a wide reach.

Most of the people you find here will be irl people with differing views, not paid shills to spam posts.

Also by these countries, I mean every country does this. You usually don't see US spam because they do it against Russia and China which means their spam will be in Russian, Chinese, etc.
